g13 all the way - and the analogue stick can be made to emulate a 360 stick, so should work better for driving. Wish I could test it out now but I just got it going when beta was over

I've been using one of these for a couple years now:

http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/g13-advanced-gameboard

The thumb stick is perfect for movement in most MMORPGs, but for Defiance (and FPS games in general) I just use the traditional WASD setup. :)

the analogue stick can work in analog mode..might play better, for the driving at least, i jsut have to find out if the emulation utility violates some terms of use

The last patch in the Beta seemed to have synced it to the Xbox controller and replaced the Keyboard Letters with the Xbox Letters.

I switched from like a decade or more of using a trackball mouse to a regular but modern mouse with more than 2 aux butons (12, to be exact). Still getting used to it, but I'm still of the opinion that trackball is more accurate and twitch friendly, as opposed to moving my entire wrist or arm to use the mouse.

In the past I used a Razer Naga and Nostromo and both cords failed with a week of each other just outside of warranty. I don't really raid hardcore anymore so have not needed to make that investment again, but I would go wireless Naga and Orbweaver if I did.

For this game you can't beat an xbox controller with KontrolFreek sticks extenders. Not jus for gameplay, but it makes the UI on PC much easier to navigate.

For majority of games I use the G13 with a naga on the PC for those that support the controller I do use the razer sabertooth controller, for flight games I used the saitek x52 cyborg (aka the fly5) but need to replace it due to an axis hardware issue.

All my gaming controllers are wired, can't stand wireless as I had times in the past where the batteries would up and die on me mid combat lol.

Logitech G-19 keyboard and a Steelseries Sensei mouse. I use to have a G700, but it had static charge issues and I would consistently double click things and I would lose my mouse hold when using ADS and other press and hold mouse button presses. Was very annoying playing shooters. The Sensei I've had no issues with and it's a very well built mouse. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a new mouse.

I use a razer naga and nostromo personally. I might connect a controller for the vehicles but, honestly might just get use to the wasd for them if I can find better place to put the boost key. Although auto run would help a lot.

Logitech Rumble Pad 2 or Logitech F310/F510/F710
Variants in wired or wireless.
Native Windows recognition, and often native Xbox 360 compatible recognition.
The analogue sticks are of Playstation authentic quality (some say better).

You want something easier to use, then I'd say you're already there.

If you're playing on a PC nothings going to beat a Mouse / Keyboard for this kind of game especially vs a Controller - Not everyone's as good with a Controller as they are with the standard.

PvE Sure maybe but I watched some Xbox footage of someone trying to kill a hellbug and I think I'd be smashing my head against a TV - The Aiming along with the constant moving and jumping about of Hellbugs made it look terrible.

You can always try the other Pads they've released for the PC but honestly with so few buttons either go play Console or just stick to what you've got. This isn't wow where you have 101 Abilities you need to Hotkey :P

Sweet! Just got confirmation from Trion that there's no potential issues emulating a 360 controller. g13 analog stick for driving properly = yes.

Yay!

I'll probably post a thread how to do this if other people want to know how.

I have one. They are super nice if you have a game like this one where there aren't a lot of key bindings. For MMOs what sucks is you don't really consider the number of other keys you might want to press. For example things like accessing the map, score tab, on top of normal key bindings.

The super nice part is it's 100% programmable so you can easily setup macros or other functions with it. I tend not to use the directional pad for movement and stick to WASD. This gives me up to 8 other buttons to program into it but I tend to just use the 4 (for weapons or abilities).

Found out how to enable controller UI ;
In order to use a gamepad for Defiance on your PC, you will need to follow these steps.

Go into the Settings menu.
Select Controls.
Then turn the Show Controller UI on. This will change your settings to show the gamepad mapping for the game.

Using mouse&keyboard and gonna keep on using. Although if I were to use a controller it would be an xbox 360 controller, though I mostly use it for games like the assassins creed games, arkham asylum/city and other similar games. Did some testing with using a controller back in one of the betas, never really got used to it and never really liked it, though I did take down the three biomen without dying at tranquility.

they're pretty much identical hardware, with some very minor changes over the years. been using nostromos since the n50 over a decade ago. swear by them for all games. got a razer nostromo on my desk, a razer n52te i retired but keep as back up, and an n52te in the box for back up.

although there are some issues in the razer ones when i tcomes to the umm thing where you can switch what the keys are bound to on the fly via hotkey.

even though none of them have been in need of replacing since i replaced my belkin n52 about 5 or 6 years ago due to a broken alt thumb button

here's my load out for defiance:

insert is my mumble ptt key, home is my fraps record toggle.

mouse i use a logitech g400. is has a "flawless sensor" which is to say no mouse smoothing or prediction. pretty good shape too, though if i could change one thing i'd move the thumb buttons further forward. i use this on a vinyl mouse mat from steelseries. don't underextimate the importance of a good mouse mat. using a foam mat or a bare desk top as the surface for you mouse is absolutely crummy compared to a solid vinyl mat.

Could never get used to playing games with hand held controllers...

But as a lefty the default keyboard layout in Defiance is terrible... I tend to default to the arrow keys in game rather than WASD which got killed a few times! lol

never got around to poking around in the settings to see if you could change the key bindings...

I had problems with the razer drivers. it wouldn't remember loadouts, granted it was right after they took over the reigns so to speak so it may have improved, but my n52 still going strong so no need to change yet

Also a good mouse mat is godly i agree. I use the Vespula from razer, one side for speed other for precision

You should install the drivers for it: install Logitech Gamingsoftware v510 from logitech.com site.
If you have problems in windows 8, this vid can help:

after that download
x360_emulator_302.zip
from:

and extract it to the folder where the Defiance.exe file is located.
Most likeley its in the Programms/Glype .. subfolder or Programms/Steam subfolder.
In there, there is a ini file that came with the package: xbox360cemu.ini

It may be a necro, sure, but I think that us vets get more out of re-reading the old posts than the newbs do.
We get to 'visit' old friends thru those old posts, and the newbs don't have a clue what they missed.

Sometimes I wish I could go back to early April '13 just so I could play the game back then, again, for the first time, when we were all so sure this pig was going straight to the top.....

I usually use a SteelSeries Merc Stealth keyboard and an OCZ Behemoth mouse. Alternatively, when I am away from my desktop I use a standard laptop keyboard and a Logitech T620 mouse which is a pain to use since it uses a rocker on the base for instead of individual mouse buttons so aiming and firing at the same time with it is impossible.

It would be very nice to have dual key and button bindings in the game like many other ones have btw.

If you want to use a controller to play a PC MMORPG or FPS go play on console n00blets...Keyboard and Mouse Dominates controller. If you want to use a controller to play a PC MMORPG or FPS go play on console n00blets...Keyboard and Mouse Dominates controller. I use a mouse and controller.
Corsair M-60 mouse.
Logitech G-13 controller.
HA!!1!
I laugh at your console controller assumption.
A-HAHahahaha....
heheh

A-hem.
I used to use a Saitek Cyborg command unit. Had one for years through the whole STALKER series, but it lost sensitivity in the thumb stalk. The Nostromo, and it's incarnations just didn't work out well for me. We discussed them here way back in the long ago, many people playing at the time loved those things, so I gave the New version of the Nostromo a try again. meh... Not for me.

otoh, I have fairly large hands.
I wish I could find a similar mouse like the M-60, or a RAT-7 that was about 30% to 50% bigger. Average sized mouseseses are just too small, they lay too flat and the top surface is too close to the desktop. It drives my nuts that I can't relax my hand enough to comfortably control the mouse smoothly without my little finger dragging on the desktop.
Yeah, first world probs, I know, but there ya go. Some ppl like chocolate, or blue, some people don't like spiders or elves. I don't like my fingers dragging on the desktop which just interferes with smooth mouse sliding.

Don't even get me started on me raging on mouse movement to the right, which causes my finger to act as a brake and impairs my sniping and general targeting motion. I don't claim to be any better than an average player, so missing crit headshots on a stumbling Afflicted vexes me...
Sometimes I get so raging mad I have to take a sip of water and maybe think about eating a cheeto....
Madness, I tells ya... It's crazy around here.

I may have to go find one of BC001's Behemoth mouseseses in stock somewhere to give it a whirl, though... It might solve a prob. Thanks for the heads-up, BC001.

This helps my paws fit the mouse.

Cyborg RAT 7 MMO on a Cyborg Glide mousepad and a Razer Nostromo gamepad with a regular OEM keyboard for telling the damn kids to "get off my lawn!". lol

I can compete just fine with a controller.

Your little finger will actually have its own button to press. And yep, another controller + mouse user here :)
