So I have been wondering about weapon Damage progression as EGO goes up and I happen upon this post by Tekrunner about a graph of data provided by maverick07.

Why does EGO scaling of weapons use such an irregular function? Why couldn't you just make it plain linear or polynomial?

(the above is a plot of a white thunder's damage from EGO 36 all the way to 5736; data courtesy of maverick07)

Why does this look like this? It seems quite odd doesn't it?

this is how they buff max ego players, but not as same as low ego player in coop have same damage out put.

It is funny they think that scaling the EGO of your character matters, When it is your guns, and shields that matter.

This bringing the EGO up to 4750 does NOTHING.

So look at this! I busted out the ol' protractor and I doubt this is coincidence...

I've noticed this as well while leveling up weapons. I heard things die off after 5500 but wanted to see for myself. I took a legendary casti Springer from 5500 to 5600 and it got 4 dmg. Proven that its not worth upgrading anything after 55XX.

That's definitely what the graph is showing - good to have further confirmation - I used the ol' protractor again and measured those small inclines in between the big ones and they are decreasing by a factor of 1/2 each time.

If the trend holds then the next increase will be a whopping 60% incline...but this'll be after this current 5500-??? doldrum...which could last a real LONG time.

I think, perhaps, this gives us a bit of insight into the longevity plans for the game on the part of the devs. Or at least the longevity of this scaling.

Ring the bell win a prize! QFT, all the way!

Yup, so there may be some marginal gain in HP, but yes weapon damage, armor, shield are unaffected. Functionally making the "buff" B.S.

It seemed like a good idea to the creative team for whatever reason...

On the first steeper slope section (1000 to 1500), every 100 EGO increases damage by 20% of the weapon's base damage.
From 2000 to 2500: 40% per 100 EGO.
From 3000 to 3500: 60% per 100 EGO.
From 5000 to 5500: 80% per 100 EGO.

The increase on the less steep portions varies from 4% to 6% per 100 EGO. And after 5500, about 1.5% per 100 EGO (which, at this point, is about 0.1% of the weapon's total damage).

Yea this sounds about right. I have a weapon that is 3500 ego that I want to level up, but stopped at 4000 because the gains were minimal. Then last night I leveleved my main shield and AR from 5100+ to 5200+ and the jump in capacity and damage was well over 300. Based on the info here I may stop leveling items after 5300+ ego.

Like this reason, perhaps? :)

This seems overly complicated...and really weird. I don't even see the point of having it set up this way. I'd love to hear the double-talk reasoning behind it. No, not really. It would just sound like blah blah blah blah to me.

The whole progression is curious.

I like graphs though - so thanks to Tekrunner and mav!

I think the creative team has PHDs in all that stuff.

There is a very good explanation to this whole thing. It might not be the right thing, but it is a good one. Are you ready for this? Because typos!

Yea but it doesn't have the same "because grenades" kind of ring though.

That's pretty funny honestly - because couldn't you see them placing a 2, 3, 4, or 5 in the wrong place and totally funking up the function.

Interesting.

Thanks for taking the time to do that, guys.
