View Full Version : Where are Defiance servers physically located?

Hey all,

Just a question which has come to mind today. I always assumed as with other games that the EU servers would be somewhere in Europe, and the NA servers would be somewhere in North America, but I've noticed today that both NA and EU players are having the same lag issues - I wouldn't expect to see that across two datacentres in separate locations. With that in mind can anybody tell where the EU and NA servers are located?

Thanks

Last time I checked they were located in the State of California somewhere.

What about for the EU servers?

I read on the Rift forums that EU Rift servers are located in Amsterdam (Netherlands). Idk if Defiance are also located there.

In a pet store. They only rent the hamsters right now. Buy enough of those 1,000,000 credit lockboxes though, then they might buy a few.

Thanks TriGlav, would make sense, seems odd how the EU and NA can be having issues at the same though.

Oh, thats where I am going wrong, see I won't spent any real money until they sort the servers (effort then reward concept - reward doesn't come first) but then I did buy an Ultimate Edition at release for each platform (yup so thats 3 of them) so I don't feel too guilty.

What about for the EU servers?

I think ALL of Defiance's servers are located in Dan Diego, California.

At least they were there a few months ago...

Those servers look like they might have a semblance of stability though...

This can explain all the bizarre maintenance times for EU servers, like 2.202 update will be at 3am GMT (5am in Amsterdam).

Edit: Patch notes have incorrect date for EU PC/360 2.202 update.

Hi

The servers are housed in data centers in Texas for North America and Amsterdam in Europe.

Edit: Patch notes have incorrect date for EU PC/360 2.202 update.

XBox is unique: the English disc is a world wide release and not region locked - so from a "patch" perspective, a single patch is shared between both regions. In other words, we can not uniquely apply a client patch to only one region (however we added the option to connect to different servers, since they are separate).

This means that for:

Client Patches: We must update both regions at the same time (or the client and servers would be out of sync).
Server Only Updates: We can update the servers independently should we choose (since their is no client patch). Since the patch notes are shared between the two, one will always be out of sync (we either deploy the notes with the initial deploy, or the latter)

This adds an additional challenge on consoles when planning patches and deciding when and how to roll them out.

(the above is simplified)
