I got a blackened hellfire assault rifle with 1.05 dmg, 1.10 dmg and 1.15 crit mult

It has 1.9 crit multiplier unmodded, dmg is 3627 unmodded

I have a t3 I crit barrel which increases crit mult to 2.1, and a t4 dmg barrel which takes dmg to 3955, which barrel would be most effective? I'm going to try and roll a mastery the same type as the barrel I'll fit, so crit or dmg? Thanks

Crit barrel is best on guns with recoil or crit rolls. It's also better on purge guns like that than regular ones, but in your case though since the damage barrel is of a higher rarity I would lean towards that over the crit barrel.

If this was my gun, I would put T4 Powerbore and master it for Crit. Since it's based on a EMC (does extra 10% damage) gun and with natural 2xDmg and 2xCrit with T4 Powerbore is powerful, IMO. With the crit mastery it would be over 2.0 and all you would be perfect.

All you really need is 2.0 crit on any gun that has a high dmg output.

That's what I was thinking, about crit being better suited to recoil rolls, but it has high crit for it's type as well as high dmg which left me unsure which to go for, though I'm coming round to the idea of rolling a damage mastery with the dmg barrel, should put dmg around 4100, which is good for an ar I think

Here's another thought: T3 barrels are a dime a dozen, so slap that on first. If you like it, great. If you don't, put the T4 power bore on.

Yeah it already has the t3 on, with my set up it crits for a little over 11k, shame I can't test the t4 dmg before making my mind up

I'm with Menov on this one. A dbl dmg, dbl crit is a beast, provided you can roll that crit roll.

I have a similar one dbl crit, and a dmg roll. Will be happy with either a dmg roll or a true crit roll.

Can't loose either way.

Just depends on the gun, a players play style, and whether its for PvE or PvP use mostly.

Weapons that have a high crit already I add a Crit Barrel to it to make what it already does good even better. Getting up there in those high 3s and 4s crit multiplier make a big difference to the dmg earned.

I think dmg barrels are best on LMGs as they really don't have high crits and are not so fast for quick aim and accuracy.

ARs can be both ways. A lot of them really don't go far past a 2.0 crit so the difference between a having a Crit Barrel vs a DMG Barrel is only a few hundred more dmg from getting crit shots. This is where play style comes in if you want to look to aim for those crit spots and earn some additional extra damage or just shoot anywhere. Keep in mind that crit hits bypass armor plates. Also keep in mind that not all enemies have crit spots exposed all the time to hit to bypass armor plates, but there are only a few.

I would go DMG Barrel but that's only because I cant Crit 100% of the time. If the damage is higher regular hits are going to be stronger and the actual Crit hits will be stronger.

I'd go dmg.

You've already got a crit role and a further two in the synergy.

Xp I'd try for dmg to. For no real reason other than as long as you're hitting what you are aiming at it's gonna hurt.

Jammy bugger :D

Along the lines of my previous comments, 0.75 recoil is also a great mastery for a crit-based automatic. I have one on my double crit BHAR, works great.

See I like a bit if both, I do like aiming down the scope at crit spots, but this kills manoeuvrability so once that enemy locks onto me I find myself hipfiring, this was especially true during hulker hell, standing still aiming down a barrel was only really viable while a crit spot was exposed, rest of the time I was running for my life backwards, hipfiring at the mob of hulkers chasing me down

I guess that's my playstyle in general, small stuff i aim at and kill in a bullet or 2, big stuff i tend to back away from while still shooting at it, then I'll kite round it shooting it when it attacks or gets too close, a habit i got into running explosive builds

After reading what everyone has had to say, I'm going to go with dmg, your responses have lead me to the conclusion that for me, crit barrels are more suited to tachmags, pulsers springers needlers etc, stuff that's more accurate hipfiring than scoped, and dmg for the stuff that's not so accurate hipfiring but situations will probably dictate hipfire necessary like assault rifles lmgs etc

Thanks for your opinions

if you do the maths you will find that the crit barrel really doesnt do that much more damage.
take into account that you not going to be critting every shot, overall your going to have better average damage output with the power bore.

the only reason i'd go cirt over damage would be specialised weapons built for nothing but crits (warmaster for example) or weapons designed for cirtical hitting (wolfhound for example where a non crit is as good as a missed shot)

did i say crit too many times?

Well...it's quite easy actually. Damage is way better in my opinion. Why ? Some math:

No mods:
DMG: 3627
CRIT hit: 6891

You add crit barrel
DMG: 3627
CRIT HIT: 7616

You add dmg barrel:
DMG: 3955
CRIT hit: 7514

Case 1 - you add damage barrel
- You gain 9% damage on a normal hit and 7% damage on a crit hit - from base weapon

Case 2 - you add crit barrel
- You gain 0 % damage on normal hit and 9% damage on a crit hit - from base weapon

If you compare the weapons at the end:
- Adding Damage Barrel will hive you 9% more damage than adding Crit Barrel
- Adding Crit barel Will give you 1.3 % more damage on a critical hit.

This means that you have to pick between getting a 9% extra damage constantly, or 1.3 % extra damage on a critical hit.

Unless it's a War Master only weapon, DMG seems way better to me.
