So with the news that we have had this week regarding Trion being bought out by Gamigo - There is now speculation among the community that going forward one version of Defiance MAYBE being taken offline.

So with this suggestion I would like to put forward one question to the community :

If we all had the choice I would like to know - what would you guys choose to keep online?

Oldfiance OR 2050

My choice would be to keep oldfiance online - and I know this opinion is shared between myself, my partner and our clannies.

So what would be your opinions?

I would have loved them to just port old defiance instead of this shambles of a version called 2050 but if one was to be shut down then they would shut down Old Defiance as it the older of the 2 games.

If they read the bug threads and manage to fix the original bugs that came across into 2050 and listen to US the players and give us regular updates regarding whats happening then i dont see why 2050 couldnt be as great as D13 was.

But in all fairness Trion has made this game and caused all the toxicity with their fan base i wouldnt be suprised if they just shut both down and be done with.

I think that this research will be very unbalanced, because novice players who only played 2050 and would come back may not have an account here, most of the forum community would logically vote for the old defiance.
I played both, but I preferred the 2050, because the OLD Defiance would take a long time to be fixed and improved the graphics for the new generation, since I've played since the launch I'm already adopted in 2050, the pyramid ended the old defiance in my opinion.

2050.
The original Defiance has suffered too much powercreep to appeal to new solo players.

Defiance...............bring back all seasonal events and jackpot chase and patron........regardless Defance and D50 needs a strong player base which doesnt exist at this point...........bring all that back and watch the numbers sky rocket along with veteran base as well ................................Cheers

Since that Ps3 will already be 16 years old, an adaptation of the original Def to ps4 would be an interesting bet although the step is already taken.
So Def'50 is here and his future is in the pocket of the players.

The Pessimist sees the glass as half empty. The Optimist sees the glass as half full. The Engineer knows that you are being wasteful by using a glass twice as large as needed.

The future is unclear. We don't have anything that could remotely be viewed as a Statement of Intent on the part of the new owners.

My preference would be for D13 to continue, but...

I cannot see D13 continuing without D50 continuing, also. I can see D50 continuing alone. I can see D13 and D50 continuing together. I can see both being discontinued. But I cannot see D13 continuing alone.

I second this, old defy in x64 and Directx 11, but itís too late to start all over again so old defy is prolly gonna be shutdown and 2050 gonna keep losing players unless they remove the paywall of keys, fix the bugs and increase the drop rate of better loot in all parts of the game, not only in coops...

I'd like to c the old defiance brought back. I play it everyday. I don't understand why that can't bring back the defiance store, or at least write a code to have it put in the vendors. The PATRON PASS is a must when playing this game. It's been down for several months and its frustrating as hell. U dont get much forge when doing an ark fall as apposed to having the patron pass, u get that much more. Trion itself, is losing so much money by not having the old defiance store up and running! Can the "DEVS" please look into this and figure something out to help the community of the old defiance. It would go to great lengths to bring back the store. A lot of gamers just want to be able to play the game and have PATRON!

Nofiance. Given the choice between D13 and D50 as they are now then I vote for neither.

Don't get me wrong, I like D13 a lot more than D50 but people seem to be forgetting most of the BS that it had as well - and I'm not just talking about the bugs. How many of you want to go back to the mind-numbing ark forge farming that was required for re-mastering and re-rolling weapons that always ended with having your soul crushed by getting "Reload while standing still" for the 5th time? Or being 1-shot by a Grenadier from the other side of the map in an Expedition? Or how worthless elite and faction lock boxes were due to how poorly their synergies compared to event synergies? Or how needlessly poor the drop rates were for OJ grenades - or OJ anything for that matter?

So for me I would want many of the concepts of D13 to be carried over but it would require a lot of work and cleanup before I would be interested.

But in the end it doesn't really matter what we want because assuming that D50 does survive then we can expect that with most of the staff gone there won't be many (if any) bug fixes or updates before the end of the year. I also don't expect for Gamigo to put a lot of money into changing the mechanics of a game that is already struggling so when updates do begin rolling out a most of them will be focused on incorporating more monetization into it. And not just boosters and cosmetics but it wouldn't surprise me if they added a Patron/VIP subscription with daily login rewards with extra keys and provided increased salvage drops and higher drop rate chances on higher end loot. In short, if you are the type that is militant about F2P games only monetizing cosmetics then be prepared for a rude awakening.

Nofiance.

This.

I loved Defiance 2013 and dumped over $2,000 into it, but Trion's incompetence and greed cured me of any desire to ever install one of their games again, let alone play it.

Now I just come to the forums periodically so I can feel vindicated about my decision to quit and to marvel at this absolutely spectacular train wreck that they've created.:p

old defiance is much better game, but it still needs a lot of work. I think best bet is port d13 on new gen gaming consoles. 2050 is not the game the players asked for.

i will let the numbers do the talking.
Started in early August, installed both games.
Defiance 2013 - 680 hours
Defiance 2050 - 83 minutes

For what it is worth, if I had to choose between them, I choose the original Defiance.
I still find the original more fun, more enjoyable and less frustrating (it still runs on a modern PC).

In an ideal world, if I had more say in the matter ... I would choose a hybrid of the two, taking the best from both.

2050 shows that a version of Defiance can run on PS4 and Xbox One. This was something I was pretty confident of, since the original game works runs on my 64-bit Windows PC.
There is every indication that the original could be ported to the current generation consoles too (a lot of the ground work was done in 2050).

So ... perhaps 80% original plus 20% from 2050.
This is, after all, what I thought we might get back in June 2017: some "big update" for Defiance was on the horizon. Adding to the original could have breathed new life to it and brought more players too.

It could be done in stages:

Porting the original game to current generation consoles.
Add the bug fixes which are supposed to be in 2050.
Make gradual changes, improvements and additions to the game.
These, of course, should be tested thoroughly.

I acknowledge the work they put into 2050. Some of the changes made in 2050 might be worth exploring / including, such as:

Improved inventory management / categorisation.
Making salvaging and salvage useful.
Being able to select a bonus (from a short list) when re-rolling.
New outfits and weapon skins.
Prototypes could still be a thing or like jackpots / super weapons.
Some abilities. I liked the idea of having a medi-bot and the Engineer's abilities could add more to the game. The EGO grid could be added to.
The new Crusader storyline and new Harvester enemies.

There are plenty of aspects of 2050 I am not so keen on. But I think it would be a shame to completely scrap it and all the work that went into it.

We don't know know what Gamigo's plans are yet. Perhaps they have not decided themselves.
It's quite possible they will keep both versions online and try to monetize the original again.
Any shrewd business person would at least try to do that, rather than just shut it down ... especially if a large proportion of players prefer the original. Gamigo should at least consider what is popular and still has player appeal.

What is profitable is closely related to what is popular. If there are no players wanting to play a game, you cannot make much money from it.

The original defiance game for me. I tried the new 2050 for about a month and was very frustrated with it. No matter how hard I tried I never got stronger. The modding of the weapons is very confusing for me. I never got the hang of it. Went back to the old game and have been very happy since. If Trion would only fix the store in the old game it would be perfeect. A lot of players went back to the old game and it seems like Trion is missing out on a lot of money to be made there if the store got fixed.....I need chip pullers :)

It has been interesting to see peoples thoughts on this subject and considering the subject matter I am of the opinion that unless the community states what their "preferences" are regarding the old game or new game then our voice will not be heard at all.
That was part of the reason for this post when i created it - so that our preferences could at least be noted somewhere. As to if it will be listened to or have any effect on anything at all - we can only speculate at this point.

I totally agree with Light Energy on this point -

"There are plenty of aspects of 2050 I am not so keen on. But I think it would be a shame to completely scrap it and all the work that went into it.

With the above in mind - if we want something to be popular the community has to make it so.

Old Defiance 100%.

We begged for years to have the game we loved to be ported to next gen. When the announcement finally came the community went wild. We were ready!

This version is not what we wanted...at all.

We were never happy with RnG. Some had the lucky horseshoe, and others required the invention of Karma to have a chance at getting anything. So who in their right mind thought "Lets go the Destiny route and create Power Ratings, then base it on RnG"?

There is no point in playing for gear. The only goal is grinding for higher rated gear. The grind is for PR. I played D13 daily every day since launch and I did that for the challenge of adding to my collection. I was proud of my collection and dedicated a lot of time and money to have what I had. 2050 doesn't have this for me. I don't get excited to get home and launch this version.

The game of me verses the RnG to expand my collection was a 5 year daily thrill.

The game of me verses the RnG to increase Power Rating brings me little to no joy.

Not sure why I still hit "Start" most days.
