I wouldn't expect it to compete with Call of Duty or Halo. I play all shooters and must say I'm surprised it didn't even make it on the list.

Thankfully, I've seen plenty of players in-game and am happy with the population.

Halo averages around 50k players a day which is tracked here http://www.halocharts.com/2012/chart/dailypeakpopulation/all

Xbox Has the highest sales for the game atm

Global Top Sellers 06th April 2013

1 3DS Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon 278,880
2 X360 BioShock Infinite 176,178
3 X360 DEFIANCE 173,399
4 PS3 BioShock Infinite 110,510
5 X360 Gears of War: Judgment 88,471
6 PS3 Tomb Raider (2013) 72,163
7 X360 Tomb Raider (2013) 66,020
8 PS3 DEFIANCE 65,174
9 PS3 God of War: Ascension 54,428
10 PC DEFIANCE 53,551

XB 173k
PS3 65k
PC 53k

The one thing you have to assume though is that, all other games are maintained over XBlive servers and so on.. Defiance being they use their own servers.. It's possible that its not tracked in the same way other games are.. And as the above say its hard to compete for top 10 online games when all of those have 2-15million owners on XB, giving millions of users online at once... Top 10 doesn't mean there are no people playing, just not a population to put it in the list... Could be #21 for all we know. ;)

I don't think many people knew about it. I didn't pre-order the game until a week before release and I had only read of it in a Game Informer.

I honestly believe it got most of it's recognition through word of mouth.

I didn't consider the server difference. Hell, I'm glad they run their own. If we had to wait for a Microsoft approved update per patch, We'd be screwed.

on xbox there are more as enough players :D

That list is measured by hw many have playd it, or just loaded the gam up a week. Most of us will put halo or battlefeld on, even for an hour a week. It doesn't state how much time a player puts it on for. Black ops 2 won't be dethroned since the game has pulled in so many people over the years.
Most defiance players contribute to that list, if it used the game the player played the most each week and used only that one title, then the numbers would be very different, but I would still see black ops at the top or close to it. But if by time played, defiance would be up there.

So long as the game continues to be fun with a healthy population, I am happy. My concern lies with what does Trion need for sales in order to keep the game running. It IS a business which is driven by a bottom line, regardless of what us fans want. :-(

It would be nice to have a counter for the amount of people who played the game each day or are currently playing.
I would have liked some sort of notice on how many have bought the game so far, and how much bits have been bought. I've currently bought 1,800 bits so far. Not had one friend yet who has done so as well, but maybe as time goes on and more things pop up.

That reminds me of the "Players online" feature for Runescape. That would be nice to have on the main menu :D!

Lots of people when I'm playing... as long as it maintains that for me...I'm happy. I think the xbox crowd has taken to DEFIANCE really well. I've never experienced this on a console ever...having the gaming time of my life right now with it. I hate gaming on PC's.

When you play Co-Op or Competitive, there are no listings of recent players on xbox live. Microsoft doesn't track what they do not control. Trion is using the model of micro-transactions supporting their site, I hope it works.

So according to those figures the game sold 17,524,518 dollars worth of games, barring any of the defiance store stuff and any additional savings someone might have had.

That doesn't look very promising although what do I know.

That's only from Apr 2-6 though, doesn't count 7th +, all we can say is tell all your friends its fun, tell 10 friends and hopefully 1 of them plays it and they go on to tell 10 friends.. It's how GoldenEye on n64 became so popular, not much was known, it sold slow at start and then BAM!, people talked friends played together, everyone bought their own copy, and now its regarded as one of the best, standard starting FPS games.... I still think its one of the most interactive in terms of places you could shoot the bad guy and have them respond to being hit in said location. :)

I will start to recommend the game more, once they work out these bugs, and atleast get co-op working correctly.

Yep... Comparing Defiance to a game that has had what, 12 years to build a fan base... Totally logical...

To be honest I'm suprised defiance had a p[opulation to begin with as I saw no advertisments for it nor had I even heard about it untill the day the beta was released on xbox 360 when my friend messaged me that morning asking

"Do you have a defiance code?"

I replied with

"No sorry mate I can't help you there I don't even know what defiance is?" lol

this in it's self should tell you why maybe xbox 360
didnt sell so many which is a shame as it is a great game. (When it works) :P

Well, those VGChartz numbers are for retail store sales only. It doesn't include online orders. MOST PC players don't want/need a disc so they get the download versions, either from Trion directly, or on Steam, or from Amazon (or a dozen other online stores).

Since the console requires a disc to play, console players don't buy digital download versions.

The game is filled with adults and over 18's from who I have spoke to in game. This is great I'm yet to come across more then 1 annoying little kid. In a way this is good the adults are the majority who spend money in game.

I love this game and would miss it if left. I'm not in the honey moon stage of the game any more and still love it.

I just have to go off the subject one minute but Chronosphear84 do you have a controller made of sugary sweets or something because I don't know anyone who's ever had the urge to lick theirs >.<
