View Full Version : We NEED Open World PvP Option

And im not just talking about shadow war.

It should be setup something like everyone in "towns" ( vendor areas ) would be in a "safe zone" where you can toggle the PvP Option ON / Off

Once outside the "safe zone", if you are PvP Toggled ON you could only turn it off after 5 minutes of no hostile action from another player / being shot and hit by another player, or by re-entering a "safe zone"

With the vastness of this game, and the platform its setup on, i think open world PvP Much in that style would greatly benefit the game

Maybe add some pursuits to get some open world pvp kills.

It wouldnt take away from PvP matches because it guarantees to put you right near players

The only downfall is it might negatively effect Shadow Wars, so maybe make it so anyone in a Shadow War match is considered PvP Toggled OFF to anyone in the open world

The EP used to work for CCP. I'd love to see a faction war option in Defiance.

No thanks. While I appreciate that you suggested it be optional, once it got introduced and no one was actually turning it on, we'd start seeing threads about having the 'optional' part removed and forcing people into it. Thats how these things always go.

The sheer amount of phasing involved in Defiance would royally screw with open world PvP as well.

When they add GvG, hopefully they'll prioritize warring guilds to be on the same server or in the same phases as opposing guilds.

I'd imagine that something along the lines of Red vs Blue will pop up once they add GvG, assuming they can support guilds of significant size.

While I would love the hell out of some open world PvP in this game, the right factors need to exist for it to work well. It cant just be something they decide to throw in. It would need to be meaningful PvP with things like territory & resource control, and would also need to have a decent PK system. The system you describe reminds me of DFUW, which sadly is a much worse system than the original DF.

DFUW - Cities are surrounded by safe zones. New player trying to explore or track down a certain mob crosses over the safe zone, then gets jumped by several stronger enemies. New player calls for some help, a couple good players get together to escort him.... As soon as they show up and the original attackers think there might even be a small chance theyre going to lose the fight, they take off running for a safe zone themselves. There is a timer on becoming safe, but basically, theyre already ahead of you... youre not going to run them down in time unless theyre just plain slow and terrible. Entire system is pretty crappy.

Original DF - Had an alignment / flagging system, as well as multiple races with their own alliances / enemies. If you were flagged red, either from murdering too many blues (allied race)in a lawful area, or because you were an enemy to the race who's area you were in, you got taken out by guard towers if you travelled too near a city. Murderers, and people outside their racial pairings, had to rely on using Chaos Banks / Cities, neutral areas where they wouldnt get attacked by towers but were free game for everyone else to attack with no penalty to their own alignment.

Personally I would love if Defiance was designed with a PvP system more like original DF, especially with racial alliances / enemies (since several of them generally hate eachother and humans in the actual lore & TV show) but due to lack of other aspects it wouldnt work very well. DF was also a full loot game... now that would make Defiance interesting.

The more I think about it the more I wish Defiance had basically been a much improved version of Darkfall, minus the stat / gear grind. All of the PvP, politics, territory control, crafting, etc but made with the budget Defiance had and a better dev team like Trion working on it instead of AV, and with all the PvE stuff added as well.
