Yeah,at the cost of some scrip.
Ok thank you for the info DJTrig
Actually as you level you find gear only for this class or the other with bonuses. The beta only contrains the newbie part of the very start of the game. so very few people have gotten high enough ego level to start finding this gear some have though. Not to mention not much has been said what else class will effect later in the game and as it evolves with DLC and so on.
Yea, it's been brought up. But see that's the trick, each load out will let you equip a certain number of perks in a combination of your choosing making your own custom class as it were. You can equip and unequip these all day, however maxing out certain perks will require EGO, and re-speccing means having to ditch certain maxed perks in favor of others, which means you effecting one if not possibly two load outs.
So if you wanted to not have to min/max your perks all the time you would need a new character to fill that requirement. That way you have your guy that's an awesome cloaker with high damage skills with load outs for PvP, Grouping, Soloing etc, and then you roll up your Demo guy who loves explosions whether from a BMG or a lovely rocket launcher with his various builds and weapons.
The point is that customization will be something you can explore and making a new character over jacking up your old one will make that much easier.
There is a pursuit to reach 5,000 EGO rating and to max something like 90 perks. If you cannot find a variety of builds from this amount of perks, then you are certainly doing something wrong. Eventually it will be possible to max everything on a single character (expansions notwithstanding of course). Besides, some perks are simply not needed depending on your playing style. The result is that a second character is probably not needed other than to populate a different regional server, which may not be possible.
Yes, from what i saw in the beta I was able to respec as many times as I wanted. Although you have to have the required amount of scrip to initiate the respec but you can do it when and where you want. I also discovered that the price for respeccing goes up as you advance in EGO rating.
I hope there will be more to the toon creation. There doesn't seem to bee any real benefit to pick one class over the other except for look and a slight gimp on non-starting weapon. The thing I want to see tho is if Archtype is gonna make a difference or is it really just a set of chins.
now i feel kinda stupid because i just answered the question for the 4th or fifth time...and when i posted, Altreas' comment was the last one.
Like Jardian said... The game details on the purchase web sites explain that as you move up your "class" becomes more involved and it sounds like certain weapons only work for certain classes. I also wonder if there could be trade skills soon. It would seem that an engineer would be like an "enchanter" with an ability to build non mod weapon buffs. The rest may soon have trades as well. I would not bet on that but the fact that certain weapons may later require special classes does seem implied in the item descriptions.
