Just going off of observation, it looks like unpopular outfits that nobody buys get dropped 50%-75% while the popular ones stay at 880 bits.
Probably not.
I doubt the prices will ever change, short of a weekly sale.. As long as people are paying so much, why change it? Trion has been HORRIBLE about letting us in on their 'reasoning', or communicating things in general. I wouldnt expect them to change their ways anytime soon
880 bits = one outfit (not including headgear) = $11
I want all you people who complain about not being able to afford sub-based games to think about that for a minute.
To be swag you have to be ripped off by the money market? Pass.
I have yet to see an outfit in the cash shop that looks even remotely worth buying. Only one so far is the Renegade one, but it's way too expensive.
I can buy real shirt from that money.
This is pretty much known and what a lot of people don't like-outfits that cost so much. But it's a want. In fact, the outfits are basically mostly re-skins of things you do get other ways.
I view it like this. I can buy a pair of jeans in the store that cost $20 and are not that different from some that cost $180. The ones that cost $180 may or may not have a logo on them so if I tuck my blouse in people can see on my behind that I thought that logo was worth it. If I complain about the price of the jeans then I'm acting as if I had no other choice but to pay too much for jeans. Apparently today we are not supposed to have things like willpower and be able to use our own discretion regarding such things. If it's too expensive, don't buy it. If you don't buy it, there's every chance the price may drop. If it doesn't, oh well.
Sure I'd prefer they cost less. I'd buy them all if they did. But I don't have to buy any of them. I bought the purple/pink truck and like the Woodland version, but I won't buy it.
And regarding sub-based games. Those too have stuff in them that they want you to buy even though you are paying a subscription so what's your point. And the least amount I've seen charged for subs was at one time $4.95 per month with most now around $15 per month and with a fee for expansions. WOW expansions average (some higher, some lower) $20 per expansion.
So what is your point. All games today are featuring content you can purchase with real money, including weapons and outfits. And some cost more and some cost less, but it's best when they are not actually needed in the game.
I've thought about it and I'm not sure whether you're trying to make a point that the outfits cost too much, or that they're cheap at $11.
Playing video games is probably the least expensive hobby I've got. Compare that to buying Jeep parts, Harley parts, buying ammunition for range time, training or firearms games and you'll see what I mean. Hell, even a single outdoor BBQ costs 10x what paid for this game. Gaming is cheap even if you factor in the cost of the gaming console or computer.
It is all really overpriced.
I've said this before. MMO companies FEEL like their digital goods are "premium" items when they are anything but.
They have execs explaining to bosses that this is the right way to go to make sure the brand stays "premium" and that if 100 people buy it at $11, it's better than 100 buying it at $5. Probably based on some 2-3% ROI based on player numbers broken math since more people would be buying it at a lower price.
However these items are NOT premium. There's nothing "premium" about recoloured outfits already in the game. There's nothing "premium" about two exact items selling at different prices because one is a different colour.
Maybe Trion thinks people are stupid. I mean that's the whole point of a "made up" currency like bits. It's suppose to be confusing the exact cost of an item. Not everyone will do the math and see that recoloured truck just cost you a months worth of bread or that they could've bought several games for the amount of bag space you just bought.
I never understood this logic. I mean is it really worth have the few pay $11 for an item over the many paying $3 for it?
It may work for Apple, but it doesn't work for you.
All I know is, that I am not spending a dime in the digital store because everything is so stupidly overpriced. If it wasn't I would've given them money. That's their loss. They think some peoples money is worth more than others.
That's fine by me. I will be spending my money on GoG.com or the Steam summer sale where $11 can get me two full games as oppose to a painted digital truck. Cause it's PREMIUM digital goods!
Possibly OK if they were actual brand new designed outfits you can't get anywhere else.
Recoloring existing armor then charging $11 is almost bordering theft.
Seriously this topic is like a dead horse on a cart, easily dragged back out for a beating.
Common arguments for outfit prices:
1. Too expensive
2. Re-colors of existing armors
Both of these are arguments are not really arguments at all. They are points people that either a. want to be cheap or b. want to point out some crazy conspiracy to take our money use to try to justify some wild reason to lower the prices. Cause if you just want the armor then play the game, you don't have to buy the re-color.
As for what drives prices is demand, if people are welling to buy at the posted price but you are not then that price ain't going to change bucko! And again these are cosmetic purchases, purely for your own desire, nothing else.
If this was a sub game you'd be chucking out $8~15 a month, given release was in April if you'd already paid out $24~45 for the last three months. You could buy 2~4 outfits with that amount of money, but you didn't pay a sub and you didn't HAVE to buy any outfits, so you've still spent nothing and lost out on nothing.
So please wheel the horse back into the refrigerator and let it go in peace.
It gets tricky to price things on the Xbox version. When they had the "buy 4k points worth of bits, get double the amount" sale, I did. So does that mean I just cut the cost in half? lol, I don't know. I have all the outfits I want (including two of the three released this week) and haven't used half of what I got from that sale so I'm satisfied.
I'm of the opinion you vote with your dollar. Ace Combat 6 was like this.. they had a lot of planes as DLC and some were very costly but hey, I bought the ones I wanted. Companies are in business to make money, plain and simple. If the costs were high enough that nobody bought them, they'd come down. This obviously hasn't happened yet.
Could be worse. Could be Monoclegate.
The issue with high prices on fluff is that Trion creates a higher purchase barrier. While this is somewhat mitigated by using bits instead of dollars (disconnecting people from the value of their money like this is why all cash shops use special currencies instead of cash), it's still too high.
There's enough variety in the shop that Trion could lower the prices while earning more, as people would be more likely to buy multiple vehicles/outfits if the cost were lower. The only reason they wouldn't try it is that they feel the current cash shop income is sufficient, and given the number of people I see running around in cash shop outfits and cars, that may very well be the case.
I'm the same, just on PS3. With the bit sale, I was able to get a crap-ton of bits, picked up a few things I wanted, and now have plenty left. However, I tend to still think of things in terms of what the cost would be *now* instead of what it actually cost me when I bought the original bits.
I keep eyeing that Liberty Trooper, if only because I'm a history teacher (among other things) and find it fitting, but I keep thinking, "Damn, $16.50 for the whole thing? That's just not right..."
My complaint is that the Liberty armor is for the Fourth, and it's the most expensive thing (outfit wise) in the store. I'd think for the first week of July it'd at least be half price, then go up to full price.
I'll probably buy it this week, then it'll be free on the 8th.
