Because like always with MMOs there are better pvp games out there. At the moment that is Planetside 2 for me.

I did not buy Defiance to play PvP all the time, otherwise there wouldn't be a difference with CoD's PvP all day concept.

I like Defiance because you can have fun in the open world.

Right now I use PvP as a tool - to gain pursuits, finish annoying dailies and easy weeklies (which I have done and have done consistently) for Echelon rep. There is no added value to that.

Hater quoters and trollers be, but they're just dragging my progress as me being Kirito. He lived in SAO not thinking about PvP. He would just stand at players who try to PK him. He remains in the lead group but never forgets to go back a few zones to help friends out.

Already maxed out my XP, will just do weapon grinding and I can have fun driving all day.

The point is, PvP is not and will not be my endgame. Helping other people, especially my clanmates, is my endgame.

Some can be good in PvP and I admire that, but I am good at something else and I am proud of it.

Personally, PVP is not for me, i'm just not wired for it. You can tell me what to do, but I dont have the instincts, skills, whatever to go out and be a solo killer. I guess I am more of a "line soldier" in WOW and Rift there were battlegrounds where I could dive in and do my part, if it was just "throwing bodies" at the problem, or DPS'ing at the right places ("fight on the flag dammit!") In those situations I enjoyed PVP alot, but thats group PVP. I sofar havent seen anything comparable in Defiance, if there's something like that point me at it. Tried Shadow War and that was futile (for me) head to capture point, get killed, repeat, become aware enough to spot enemy player, shoot him enough to get his attention, die, run back, repeat till end of match.

This is not an issue with the game, it is me, I know this and I am fine with it. Far as I can tell PVP is working fine for many. But the question was why dont I PVP, thats my answer.

I dont usually PvP much in any game, most games its just because I suck at PvP. I do play PvP in this game mostly for contracts or pursuits and I have been getting alittle better. It gets to be hard to get into PvP wheneveryone else is real good and you just get whipped out but this game isnt that bad to get into it and like someone else said if you can manage to get a group that will stick together you can exell in the match.

I'm a PvPer and what makes me usually stop playing are the infector users.

    Poor balance
No condition damage improvement gear (disease guns, shot guns, acid, fire etc improvements)
    Premades
    The ongoing sniper headshot bug

    Pretty much my reasons.

Skill does matter, but if any of the good PvP players took their PvE loadouts into PvP, they'd do worse. Some of my 4K friends regularly need to be revived in Co-Op maps but are a royal pain to kill in PvP.

If you're new to PvP, here's my advice
Focus your loadout on how you're going to get kills.
Surviving for the next kill is not as important as getting some kills to begin with.
All the pursuits are about getting kills - under specific scenarios.
There's nothing in the pursuits about K/D ratio, kill streaks, etc...

So on that point, to get kills, classically, it's about dealing lethal damage to the other player before he does the same to you. So the more damage you can do in one go and the more damage you can take in one go - it will give you an advantage.

So that respark shield you love in PvE, comparted to a Rhino / Ironclad with 300+ better capacity means that opponents can break your shield and get to your juicy HP quicker. The difference is higher at higher Ego. At 4k, I think resparks are around the 1300 mark and Rhino / Ironclad are around 1900 mark conservatively. 600 pts of dmg difference is massive.

It's also the reason why Fortitue and Thick Skin are so imporant in PvP. I read elsewhere, fortitue makes your HP about 1500. Thick skin lets you take half damge after shield break for 3 seconds. That means your effective HP just became 3000.

And if you can, get Rear Guard. People attacking you from behind in cloak is going to happen. It sucks but your survivability will go up a lot with Rear Guard. To kill you, they need to do 1000+ dmg to get past your shield. Then 3000HP to kill you... all at -30% dmg.

My last bit of advice is to stick together with other people in your team.
It becomes exponetially harder for an individual as they face off against more and more people.
At 2 v 1, that one person has to do twice as much damage AND survive twice as much manage to win. It's not twice as hard.. it's 4 times as hard.
Most cloakers are going to hesitate ambushing a pack of opponents.

    Okay.. one more last thing...
Infectors and cloak make it easier to produce results in PvP. Unles you have a personal issue with using it yourself; use it if you feel you need to. I rather have more cloak shotgun / infector users (becaues they need it) in PvP so that games actually pop than wait ages to try complete my echelon contract.

    Gah... another last thing...
If your playing Oceanic times... Join CORE and get on teamspeak.
Most of the strong PvP players during Oceanic times are on CORE and we'll help you out.
If they can help a scrub like me complete all my PvP pursuits, we can help you too.

Oh... And to the super strong PvP players in Oceanic... don't use your uber builds unless you need to. I've spoke to other CORE members about it and want to extend it to the other strong players not in CORE.

Noone enjoys getting smashed all the time and I know you don't enjoy PvP without some challenge. The weaker / newer PvP players can't suddenly get strong to match you.. so if you want to nurture PvP during Oceanic, it's up to you to tone down and / or try out different builds you're not practised in. Doesn't matter how strong you are individually; if PvP doens't pop, you can't complete your contracts either.... well at least I can't! :(

Thanks for this post... had some good info for me.

New to the game, been an avid PVP'er in many games for a long LONG time.

I plan to get into PVP in this game... because some of the best pvp/multiplayer experience I've ever had came from FPS games and some from MMO's.. this game ties both together in a unique way for me... something I've been looking for.

So I expect to be PVP'ing soon... need more Ego rating though first.

    Cya out there.

I such at PvP but I still do it, mostly for the pursuits, so I don't know if I will bother with it, once I completed the PvP ones.

Infectors are what annoys me most. Mostly because those severely limit my choice of perks. Anti-Infector perks first, and then 2-3 perks to play around with.

But since I only use weapon types I haven't maxed out yet, my infector time will come too in the future ...
