Now that would be something worth watching.

I can't see them removing region locking and keeping both EU and NA servers running.
I would assume region locking was done because they could not find a way to not give people from NA a lag playing on EU servers and vice versa. As a big COD player I am connected to a local server when I get online. If I chose to join a friend on the other side of the world it displays my connection usually one or two bars. Some games built lag compensation but it is not really a big help. I do not mind playing with a lag when I make the choice to do so.
If they remove region locking are they going to accept that people are suddenly going to encounter 1 bar connections when they shift to a server their foreign friend is on possibly losing connection?
Or do they plan to shut down the less busy servers (guessing the eu ones which are dead after midnight till about 5 am) and let everyone play on US hosted servers..
If that is the case I do not think we should get excited until we are told clearly how it will work. It will result in freezes and at least a 5 -6 second lag when playing in EU to NA meaning that races will not be completed on time, co op maps may kick you from the group if you do not join away, and you will be shot in pvp while your screen still shows you at the spawn.
Think please people and ask for more answers.
I did read the thread but character data transfer is the least of my issues. That they will be able to accomplish either way 1. Because they will probably store server back ups on an additional backup server hopefully at headquarters or elsewhere. Data protection is a core component of a companies revenue and security. The transfer may take some time but if they do it it will be done in the background and announced when ready.
My issue is as above and also as noticed by Shwartznwalder who shrewdly got what I was pondering. They would have to make server choices and if a lot of the server population went over to another it would mean a massive shift in balance. So one empty set of servers one full set or will they combine. I apologise if I took your post off topic but it is a logical progression for me. Every action having a reaction etc.
It also can actually make matchmaking even more difficult I would think.
I know that some games I've played on the PS3 really had problems with matchmaking. I couldn't play with friends but I could play easily with randoms from Japan (I'm in NA). I'd never get into random games with someone close to my area. I'm not anti-Japanese or anything but if I was playing at my prime time, the server would be empty.
Yes exactly and the servers already seem to be temperamental when it comes to lag or poor matchmaking/connections, and perhaps intermittent changes in connection speed. I've seen this in other games too-but in some games what results is an interruption in a match or lag or in other games it just looks like you are still connected to the server even though you really don't have a stable connection. I can foresee a lot of problems.
Lmfao :D I Loveee putting M'kay :)
