I have only one real life friend who is buying this game and is playing the beta with me. All my other friends have no idea that Defiance exists. When I tell them that it's a shooter MMO I always get the same damn response "Oh you mean Destiny by Bungie?" I wonder how things are going to be when Bungie launches their shooter MMO. I know it's far away still but I can't help but be worried for this game when it comes to Destiny talk. Any thoughts on this?
It's only for consoles, so screw them )) Dont worry mate, this game gonna be awesome!
ditto, saw post , was curious, checked it out and sounded cool on wiki page but only console. There are far more PC game players than console players so cutting off their nose to spite their face. Sounded cool otherwiseQuote:

Im playing both, but seeing as Defiance comes out first it will be a good lead up the Bungies next epic.
I do see some similarities but they stand out on their own in the end.
ill probably pick that up too. but it looks like defiance might get more rep because it comes out first. It might be opposite due to the fact that people like Bungie for what they have done in the past(Halo)

From what I've heard, Destiny is directly ripping off Defiance but it's going to be first person and they're adding their own "Bungie flair".

I love Defiance, but my mind exploded when I read the preview for Destiny a while back. So in all honesty, I've been much more pumped about Destiny than Defiance in the last year.
Destiny looks absolutely amazing from what little we've seen, but keep in mind... that isn't an MMO like Defiance is. Supposedly there aren't vast numbers of people at once, but players seamlessly entering your game and you entering that of others. Like in the PS3 game 'Journey.' Plus, Destiny is an FPS not 3PS.
Bungie is a big name after all... wouldn't be surprised if it was the next big thing. But don't get all defensive over it- there being another amazing title doesn't mean this one has to suddenly be 'bad.'

Both games are going to be great, Destiny will most likely get more craze but Defiance will most likely be like the Souls series, hardly played but an amazing game.
Well I have a feeling they're going to advertise Destiny as the next "Halo" so yeah I'm worried about Defiance's population come Destiny's release. Oh and whats with all the "Destiny is only for consoles so don't worry, so many more PC gamers than console players" I'm posting in the 360 general forum for a reason...I PLAY ON THE CONSOLE so I don't give a flying f-word about PC players.
Destiny is a always online-shooter with MMO elements, they don't want to use the word MMO at all and I'd say that's fair. While the dynamic weather and a hyped "alive" code sounds incredible, it may just be that incredible to hear. Also according to the contract Bungie has with Activision they are on the hook for four Destiny games, the first of which should be out late 2013, so Defiance has 8 months to gain players, introduce their world, and for the TV show's 1st season to run it's course.
I've never been a Bungie fan, and absolutely hated Halo so I'm already on the meh list about Destiny, beyond some features that could be vapor to begin with it just sounds like Halo Online to me. I'd wager that Defiance will be just fine, I mean it already has stiff competition already.
Destiny is a F2P Shared world shooter that is completely open world being developed by Bungie, and has been stated many times that it is not a MMO or RPG. It is being developed for only consoles atm, although has been hinted slightly for a PC launch later down the road.
In many ways i feel defiance and destiny will be very similar gameplay wise but we will see.

I was asking my friend if he was going to order Defiance since I was so hyped up about it. I was telling him some of the back-round and I said it was made by Trion Worlds. He replied that it was in-fact made by Bungie. A few days later, he says that I was right and Destiny was being made by Bungie. I get very entertained when proving people wrong.
First mention of Destiny was a hint in Halo:ODST in 2009, as they were still Microsoft bound until late 2007 any title they made would be MS property, so they couldn't have started a new game til after their split. Defiance was in production five years ago which would be 2006~2007. So Defiance was in production first imo.Quote:

Close. August of 2008. In one of their weekly updates they said they already had three separate teams working on three separate games. We now know those three were ODST, Reach, and Destiny. So while Destiny undoubtedly had a team of only a handful of people, they definitely knew what they were going to be doing with it. Which is pretty cool that a game has been in development for five years now and locked up pretty tight, considering.Quote:
