Eh, the VBI LM-12 Thunder is a fine LMG. Fully modded it's a goddam beast, IMO. DPS for DPS it's every bit the equal to the SAW as there's no need to burst fire the LM-12 so you can always keep lead down range and with great accuracy.
But that strength is also why no one likes to use it; you have to expose your avatar to enemy fire and with the LM-12 you have to be exposed A LOT whereas the SAW can rack up quick damage in bursts from cover.
Personally, I do prefer the VBI LM-12 over the SAW. It's laser accurate and with a Sustained Power Muzzle III it destroys the SAW in long range engagements. The SAW dominates it in CQB, though. Mid range is a wash.
I don't think it sucks, and I don't agree that SAW is better than the LM-12; the LM-12 is just more difficult to use and therefore players think it sucks.
But the VBI ARs have to be burst fired for maximum accuracy so... you can't just sit there all day long and unload an entire bucket with laser pinpoint accuracy.
With LM-12s a player DOES NOT need to compensate for recoil or bloom ever. It's ability to be permanently laser accurate is what makes its effective DPS so awesome.
I'm not saying the LM-12 is perfect. It does genuinely need a small damage boost and I think the CoF could shrink more quickly when firing it but when used at long range, and modded for that, it's better than a SAW.
It makes more sense to burst fire for big hits, then to laser something for a bunch of tiny numbers. The thunder and rocker have no place in PVP sadly as badas* as the rocker looks with the minigun attachment, imo the SAW was the only viable LMG for PVP. The trade offs for high damage were RIDICULOUS reload times, high recoil, big bloom after the 5th shot. The other LMG's dont pack enough punch to be useful, the AR/shotty is going to be the next goto in terms of PVP. That is, until that gets another nerf as well.
And as far as PVP, in all honesty, I pretty much ate through every other LMG user, and it was only because I had no real secondary, the LMG was my only gun, I used a sludge cannon to just bring up OC that way I could pop it if I had to reload, but if OC was on CD, and I was OOA, I was pretty much f*cked.
Edit: AND to top it all off, it needed a decent Nano and decent synergy to actually land enough shots to compensate for the stupid bloom. "Standing on a ledge? Sorry game thinks you're jumping up in the air so now you get extra bloom and recoil. Stepping on a rock? Here's your 30% bloom and recoil increase."
The LMG build PVP is HIGHLY specific, you can't just grab it and go. It doesn't work well with blur, it doesn't work well with cloak, seeing as the first shot is the only one that gets the stealth damage boost, it was incredibly specific to be viable, which is why I just don't get this nerf. It literally benefited NO ONE, not a single person gains from this nerf, PVE or PVP wise, everyone loses. Even Trion had NOTHING to gain from this nerf, no one is going to buy lock boxes to replace their SAWs if that was their plan.
If only there was some sort of test server would could test these changes on and give some feedback about them before trion decides to implement them into the live game servers.
Nerfing the SAW has to be the worse idea Trion could of come up with, but then again does it shock you that they would decide to take one of the better weapons and make it useless and then not deal with the weapons that truly should of been delt with? This almost makes you want to drop the game.
Not really. Case in point: Tachmag Pulsers.
Tiny numbers work just fine if the weapon has the accuracy, rate of fire, and magazine capacity to pump out the DPS.
In fact, that's really what the LM-12 should be; a long range Tachmag Pulser.
Increase RoF by 25% and I bet it would be beast.
I have to admit to enjoying the tears of all the people that can't accept that the SAW needs a nerf. It does more bullet damage than all other automatic weapons as well as having a good fire rate, long range before falloff and massive magazine. I'm surprised it's lasted this long tbh.
Could some of the other weapons do with a tweak (buff/nerf)? Sure. But the SAW is a good place to start, and this won't be the last balance pass they do.
After the syphon nerf I doubt anyone is going to be busting out the Tachmags at this point lol. It's really the only reason anyone was using them to begin with. The only other one mentionable is the FRC SMG, the 3 shot burst version, and that's IF you roll one with a double crit bonus, also why use a soft hitting LMG for long range when you can use a 2 hitting sniper rifle or VBI TAC Rifle? You're pretty much just gimping yourself against any other decent player unless they are using the same LMG and you happen to just be a little better shot then them.
