Ha, in the spirit of the Ark Hunters, I would assume that most Ark Hunters don't have a typical 9-5 job? =P.

After registering, you have to complete the most "major arkfalls" within the time-frame (7/8/13 - 7/30/13).

    (Official rules here: https://www.defiance.com/en/contest-rules/)

Basically this means, whomever can play the most during the time, has the best chance at winning (yes there will be a facebook contest to get the final winner from the 10 players with the highest arkfalls completed).

I do not think this is very fair for "all" players of the game, and something like this should be fair for all.

Why not a contest where all you need to do is "login" during the time-frame for a chance? Where the "chance" is a random drawing. One char login registers the account for the contest. If multiple chars on an account, only one will be entered (chosen by the player). I think this would be a very fair contest - the chance of a player not being able to login for nearly a month is probably very very low, and the contest should be for "active" players - not biased on how active they are.

On a side note...this is at least the second time they've had multiple 'events' going on in the game during the same time, which can interfere with one or the other - this time, they've got the Season 1 missions open again during the time of the above contest. This hinders player's abilities to participate in BOTH events.

    Thoughts?

Perfect example of the “everyone is a winner* generation. I blame the parents.

you know absolutely that there is a 2 liter pepsi bottle drinking taco bell eating living at home with mom free loading without a job pants around his ankles fatty that is going to be at every single arkfall and win the contest.

I don't want "everyone is a winner"...I would like these to be more fair, that is all.

If you don't like what I post, then don't reply or reply constructively please.

Sure it's not fair, but no contest is. Even a random drawing would be seen by some as unfair--"gee why not a contest where I get to show my skillz".

You want them to base the contest on someone merely logging in once during that whole time frame and not on how active they are in the game. Well, even I would say that's not fair. Why should someone that has little interest in the game get the same chance to win as someone that plays the game more often? You say it should be based upon "active" players and I agree, those who are actively participating in the game.

And sure as it is this is an "I have no life contest"-might actually be one I could win. But not necessarily. As you point out the pursuits complicate things-so it's really possible for someone who doesn't play as often to focus only on doing arkfalls to win, if they decide they don't care about the pursuits.

And yet this contest is something that can be "gamed" as well. There is a way to maximize these things and to do the pursuits, too. I've said too much. And it isn't cheating.

Oh well. I once entered a contest and the winner of ten million dollars was a crackhead friend of a friend of mine, who spent each installment payment on well, crack for all her family. Life isn't fair. I have at least a million better ways to spend the money, but I can't change things.

Of course it is not equal.

It was never meant to be equal.

Also, because some people might not have a Facebook account, much less droves of "friends" to vote them up, one cannot win. Seriously, nobody sees the chances of THIS part of the contest being totally rigged, too?

I'm sorry I ever registered in the contest now.

I didn't know account sharing was part of a meritocracy. It's good to know.
Also, and I quote, from the link you provided :
    Quote:

power should be vested in individuals according to merit. Advancement in such a system is based on perceived [...] talent measured through examination and/or demonstrated achievement in the field where it is implemented.
AFAIK, there is no merit in doing the most arkfall in a given time. Hypothetically, if someone stay ingame, never logging off, and moving from arkfall to arkfall, he would win the event, even if he is so bad he can't hit something without a rocket launcher. Pretty sure you can teach a group a monkey to do that, they just have to move from red circles to red circles, and they have bananas.

A fair event based on skill would be something based on the highest score on a challenge, or the best accuracy on a given weapon...
