“Play the Game. Join the Show" - all players do not have an equal chance

You guys lack ... imagination.

In the world of defiance, ark hunters are people who hunts ark falls and solves problems.

If you are Nolan, you want the biggest BAMF who has done countless arkfall hunting (accounts may be exaggerated or misrepresented) on your side, not the pansy causal no-name "ark hunters" with wife and kids and other commitments.

You want someone who will go all out to win, be it underhanded or dirty methods because the world needs a hero (Nolan) and a doer (forementioned BAMF) and they don't necessary have to be the same person.

Does it make more sense if you look at it from this prospective?

This... so Datak was right about Arkhunters as well?

Honestly, I think its a very good thing not to enter. I -dont- want some writer who knows nothing of my reasons, interest, or motivations, dictating what my character's back story is and or potentially sabotaging their chances to win the facebook side of that. Other than the initial grinding with your friends to win part one, everything else is 100% out of the hands of players really. It is a horribly designed and implemented contest, imo.

....who is going to know the winners? it whoever has the better back story... it makes everyone feel like they had a hand in the already decided contest.

Even if I know I'd have absolutely not a single chance to win, I would have liked to participate to the contest. But no, because I do not live in the US.

I saw this posted in the comments section of Massively, and I agree wholeheartedly (I've made a couple of edits):

Anyways, what they should have done for the contests is make a relatively moderate barrier of entry in terms of gameplay (X amount of Arkfalls completed over Y period, as an example), and then said anyone who could do that, could submit their own backstory/story (focused on a specific set of themes if need be to add some focus). The team could then choose their favorite 10, and put it up for a community vote, implementing the winning entry. THAT would be community input.

The way they're actually going about things seems kind of pointless. They have a static story in mind already, and the only real community input is going to be physical appearance, and name. That's a pretty low bar to set for this new frontier of a show/game hybrid.

I realize this is kind of new ground that Trion and Syfy are exploring, but I do hope that in the future they get a little more ambitious with their crossovers and community involvement.
