Is this game safe for kids?

I'll start off by saying i have a 5 year old and a 3 year old. I do let the 5 year old play halo solo (she likes Reach, it is easier with the other spartans to help her). I do play Black Ops but i won't play the single player with them around. More so because of the very graphic killing and the constant Fbomb, unlike Defiance Black ops drops it in every sentence.

Now would i allow them to play Defiance? My 5 year old maybe (though this isn't something that would even interest her yet). She's already heard all curse words from t.v., joe schmo at a store (seriously thats were they hear everything lol), or occasionally myself while driving, so unless it's extremely vulgar or being used in every sentence she is smart enough to know what not to say.

As for violence i grew up on doom, duke nukem, GTA, etc so i don't really buy into the violent video games breed killers, though i wouldn't let them play something extremely graphic.

My 3 year old really isn't interested in pc games much she has her leappad.

In the end it's up to you and your opinion on what's suitable for your child. Oh and it's good to see someone else raising some future gamers lol.

so my poor kids, after being called down to talk about swearing in zombies immediately went into their defense that "dad turned off swears in zombies," and turned blood off for youngest... there is no ability for those control features here that I saw. We did see at least one person ask for that filter feature though. I'd let kids play if that language filter was available personally.

lol ZEBUCITY, such a trouble maker for my kiddos now haha I'm like "hey kids, I thought there were no swears in Zombies...."

With more and more swear words making it through on TV these days youtube videos with them and VOIP ragers in games most children are introduced to swear words at a fairly young age at this point. This is acctually a talk we have where I work alot we litterally can't sell an M game to anyone w/o a valid state ID our system wont let us we have to scan the barcode on the back of the ID to be able to complete the transaction.

I have had parents complain to me about it before with I don't even understand why you guys make us do this I don't understand anything about these games. I'm nice at work and just explain the ESRB ratings and how they work and why it is a law in our state to do the transactions the way we do. What it really comes down to is by scanning that ID we as a company are pretty much saying hey the parent knew about what the contents of these game may include all repercutions are on them.

Video games/videos are not a way to raise your children if you aren't prepaired to sit down and talk with them about reality vs fantasy and why we can't do things we do in video/video games in real life then your a bad parrent. It comes down to really what you feel comfortable with letting your child see at what age and based on knowing your child if you feel they can handle it appropriatly.

I tell you in the beta within the first couple of cutscenes there were some swear words both made up and real and there is blood when people are killed in the game. I don't remember running acrosse any sexually themed content. In terms of solo questing it may actually be easier for some children with the fact that other people that are on the same quest end up helping w/o it auto making a group along with arkfalls aswell this would help them accomplish harder quests w/o the risk of VOIP rage. I personally don't look for a turn off blood option in game but based on the number of requests in the forums for this I doubt there is one currently. With some of the cutscenes and how they play out along with the words in them I doubt turning off blood when killing stuff in open world is really all that helpful.

all parents have the right to screw up their kids the way they see fit. Secret of Nimh scared my 2.5 year old (I turned it off 1/3 way in), but defiance probably wouldn't register on his radar. My wife balked at the blood splatter and sound when I died in game.

if its not advised for older teenagers to play this, I have a hard time wrapping my head around as to why you would allow a child. lol this does have some 'aggressive' language, I mean also including made up words..but it's pretty violent lol

I'd dealt with all of those in the real world by the time I was twelve. Learning about it before I experienced it for real helped me deal with it.

Talking to a guy who played some pretty graphic games growing up, thinking i was 11 when nukem came out. I feel a responsible parent is best suited to judge what their kid is ready for.

lol this can have two paths
1. you being exposed to this as a kid, absorb it like a sponge (because kids are sponges at very young ages) then..something doesnt click right down the road

2.yea you can be exposed to it to maybe live 'vicariously'?

but at 3 you don't have this sort of thinking capacity lol kids exposed to this stuff usually are the ones to end up 'strange' to say the least. what you needed was better parents not more exposure to this underworld

It's also my opinion and if I were a parent, I have every right to limit my child's exposure to whatever I want.


In MY honest opinion, if what you said is true, you would be the exception to my generalization.
And Like you said: Every child is different.

I grew up watching horror movies with mom who swore "like a sailor". The first movie that scared me as a kid was C.H.U.D. ... wasn't too crazy about phantasm because i got really creeped out about things messing with the brain idk. Now course I have a slightly different outlook with my kids, as CHUD is soooo inappropriate =p, but I got crap from my neighbor because her kids learned the word "*****" from my boys. They learned it because I though saying "oh my balls!!" in front of mom was a wee bit informal lol and her point of view was "*****" is too weird a word and they should use the slang... Different parents have far different views on what is appropriate and inappropriate.... the ratings have a certain criteria that puts them into categories and not all are on my radar personally as no-go. I mean for reals a kid can't use the clinical term for his junk but he's gotta use a slang word to be ok? That's weird to me =p

EDIT: case in point the clinical word is filtered out but the slang is ok...
