They update Rift more than Blizzard updates WoW. I have faith Defiance will be great. If launch day comes and the game is just good, expect it to be great in the coming months. Trion is known for updating there games frequently.

yeah I have faith in the company to do a good job :)
thats why i ordered on steam .-)
Well then Trion will be thanked for saving me some money since I won't have time nor need other games for quite some time then.
I also ordered through Steam, but I was never able to get the beta client to connect and patch properly. I'm hoping for a smooth launch and no connection or patching problems with the production launcher.
We're all hoping for a smooth launch, but nobody should be surprised with any hiccups that can/will happen. People are already foaming at the mouth for earlier access, so I'm very certain there are going to be massive logins the minute it goes up. I'm happy to wait until the weekend to play once things have settled. With no sub fee, there's no rush, and I've plenty of other games to play in the meantime.
I've been missing Rift lately too :P
It's definitely good to be ready for the launch to not be as stable as we would like, but it also wouldn't surprise me if it was very well done. Launches don't HAVE to be ridiculously chaotic, they just often are for MMOs with lots of players all trying to connect at once. =P
I'll likely be busy inspecting ( ~coughs~ playing with...) my stuff that comes with the Ultimate Edition, so I'm patient if the first couple of days is simply install, patch and queue.
This one definitely will. The beta had a few hiccups. PS3 seemed to go off perfectly. PC was out for about an hour and a half, as far as I'm concerned that's pretty good considering it's a beta. XBOX, yeah, definitely some problems there, but they were sorted and able to login in about 2 hours, and the lag issues were corrected within about 8 hours if memory serves. These issues should be fine for launch day, but, there could certainly be a few problems, and I would anticipate them being with the xbox side of things.
im just tired of jerk offs loping the devs and trions heads off for a couple bugs and hiccups, saying "this game is going to fail" or "i canceled my order" when they played about an hour at most, maybe 4. It really pisses me off that people are so picky about video games when they clearly have no idea how much work it takes to even bring you the content that has already been brought. hating on a product that has extreme potential....just trolls everywhere. EVERYWHERE. if you have a serious problem with this game, go back to black ops 2 or world of wackass. don't bother coming here and flaming trion, we dont want your negativity here. there's a reason why the esrb rating is Mature. I'm so TIRED of idiots trying to nit-pick about things they simply don't understand!
After playing the beta, I can confidently say that Defiance is going to consume copious amounts of my time for a long time to come.
A lot of people are considering cancelling and calling a fail because of beta, rather than flaming back we should try to help explain or inform them to keep potential players to help the community and game grow.
Don't need people like you either, doesn't help our community.
Trion did a damn good job with rift. I dont care if there are SOME problems day one ( most likely problems due to amount of players at once) I will give this game its fair shot. Need a good game to tide me over for GTA 5 anyway.
Yeah except when you tell people it's a beta and to cut it some slack, more often than not you get back something like "It's a demo for the game and they shouldn't put it out there if it has problems!". People who cancel games because of betas drive me crazy too, and after awhile it gets old to try and talk sense to the senseless. I don't know how many people I saw on this site say they thought there wasn't enough loot, so they were canceling. Nevermind that it was repeatedly explained that the loot was mostly disabled in the beta. Argh! Sorry the wait for launch day has me tense.
Their complaints are as valid as your praise. Remember, the forums are the 1%. Millions of subscribers, and only ten thousand posts. It's up to you as a reader to trudge through the mud and find out what is worth replying too, and what you choose to ignore. In a few more days you'll have your cocai... errr release date and you'll be playing and these forums will become a thing of yesteryear. :)
Same, no prestart gets me crazy.
Yea same old convos get old but its generally lack of understanding excluding the true trolls out there. That being said, its worth a shot to try to hang on to potential profits for trion to develop and expand community than to drive misinformed people away. That first of the two can become tiresome and a headache, but the latter accomplishes nothing.
Sup everyone!
Maybe the PC version will get often updates, but remember PS and Xbox demand 40k$ per patch, that's 80k$ for both consoles just to release one patch.
His heart was in the right place (^-^)b
Oh believe me I'm a regular ambassador of gaming. I spread the word about any game I think is cool, probably to the point of being irritating. I've definitely been talking this game up for months, emailing info and videos to friends. I've joked many times that I should be on the payroll of several companies for pimping their products. And you're right, it's best to be patient and try to spread the word and correct misinformation in a relaxed way rather than being confrontational.
^ not something to do with this adventure which is a 1st for xbox and PS since they aren't hosting squat on any servers. The servers are all on trion's end and pretty sure trion would have told both that MMOs are a whole different kettle of fish than what they are used to so there will be updates and patches constantly and it was all negotiated into the final contracts
Do not worry, all such will be handled by trion on trion servers with xbox and ps just being middle men
This isn't Trion's 1st rodeo so CALM DOWN!
With consoles it is. They did also state somewhere that those patches do cost them money and that it takes a long time to get them through the release process at MS and Sony. Which supposedly was the reason for only one console beta as opposed to three for PC.
The last PC beta is pretty close to what we will see at release. Loot, btw., will pretty much be the same. Of course the rest of the map will be available.
So yeah, you pretty much played a demo. A good one I think. I'll be there on the 2nd.
I am not afraid of Trion. What I AM afraid of, is SyFy. This is the company that a few years ago changed their image to get away from "unwashed nerds in their basements" and added ghost hunting, WWE wrestling, and other such shows. They backed such horrors as "Stargate Universe" which was constructed as a soap-opera on a drifting spaceship (in a huge deviation from the series' other properties, which led to overall panning and swift cancellation) in chasing the lucrative "Average Adult Female" viewerbase, ignoring actual female fans of science fiction in the hopes of bringing over the "Gray's Anatomy" set that was also watching "Lost".
I'm really, really hoping that there is a long-term plan for Defiance (the game) and that it won't be left to die on the vine if SyFy doesn't like the kind of response they're getting, for instance. I also hope that quality and depth are emphasized - when I've seen some posts that significantly narrowed the scope of the game etc... I am worried that SyFy isn't really interested in creating a kind of gameworld in which players wish to spend their time (compare to even Star Trek Online, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Guild Wars 2, World of Warcraft and others), compared to shooter-action game with thin MMO trappings that is meant to tie-in with the launch and run of the new TV series, reach certain quotas, and move on.
I know Trion is capable of crafting a compelling gameworld and they've done a great job with RIFT, but when they're partnered with a major media company that has made some really questionable "This should result in quick money now" decisions in the past to the detriment of quality, that worries me more than anything.
Edit: Console release also is a big worry. As mentioned previously, X360 for instance charges for patches and such and have been known to pitch a huge fit if a PC version released in parity has more content, better/faster patches and generally rises beyond the walls the console much adhere to. I don't want to see consoles dragging down the experience.
Standing O my friend, I would love to have the trolls see this, well at least the trolls from WoW. I am new to the console online world so when I found a science fiction based mmo I got pumped up, an now I want Defiance for my ps3 an my pc... lol, thinking I will wait for my preorder for ps3 then see.
+*played SWOR, STOL, an Unreal Tournament
Mass effect 3 was able to patch itself constantly since it's played on EA servers,
I remember that game got patch's like crazy but it only received like 3 xbox updates...
So there are are ways around the "update fee".
True, but . . . I don't know if that will be the case. I have been paying attention to the devs during the streams and they talk about pushing content to their servers. Since we are playing on Trion servers they can modify and change anything on their servers whenever they want without paying M$ or Sony and it will effect us all. PSN & XBL are only used to facilitate the connection to the game servers.
This is my understanding of how MMOs work. Defiance would be the first that I will play so I am hardly an expert here.
I've played ME3 multi for couple months, and how they did it was basically to just change numbers here and there, or add things using already existing models and textures. If there was something needed to be added or requiring physical change of files, than it could have been done only through patches and DLC.
I really do wish this was right and they could patch things at will with Sony's/Microsoft's permission. If not, they'd have to basically limit themselves to changing numerical values and whatnot you could have seen in ME's "balance changes." Server side, they could add files there to bypass patching, but they'd have to be constantly downloaded to our consoles into temp memory or whatever, slowing the game itself. I'm really skeptical, since ME3 being such a huge thing, Bioware still had to pay off Sony/MS, so what are the odds they'd change it for Trion's Defiance?
btw Borderlands has started pushing hot fixes to the game. Not just through title updates.
