I was in it for the juice.
and no one got warnings... just another thread removed......
Midni's Thread is gone did she get a banned?
What, do you expect them to send you a message every time someone else gets a warning? They don't hang people publicly, declaring that they have been banned :o
We don't mind being publically shamed. I think malachi feeds from it.
I dunno, I'm just trying to help people not be mad :O I don't know everything :P
Hey folks,
While we (the moderation team) obviously can't discuss moderation actions (just like you're not supposed to), we can tell you there's no witch hunt or anything going on.
If we notice a thread or post that violates the Code of Conduct (whether we see it whilst perusing or it gets reported), we read through it, and address it to the best of our ability as per the CoC.
When a thread is removed, the OP is contacted in some way. It may be a simple, casual PM saying "Hey, let's not do this, thanks", or it may be more formal, as in a warning or infraction. It all depends on what the subject matter is, and whether it's a persistent issue or not.
In the case of Off Topic forums, there's a bit of leeway, we realize there's "games" people play or want to discuss something that would normally be removed without question in the General forums because it's not about Defiance. However, those threads/posts must still adhere to the CoC.
Also, I'd like to note that despite the lack of contact we have with you all, we are human, and we do make mistakes sometimes. There've been times we've made a mistake and one of you all sends us a PM to say "Hey, I noticed..." and we say "Whoops, good catch" and fix it. Nobody's perfect!
We walk a fine line between maintaining order on the forums/enforcing the CoC and trying to let everyone have their say. You can't please everyone, and there will be times we do something you folks disagree with. When that happens, please realize it's nothing personal, we're not trying to censor anything, we're just trying to foster a civil, constructive place for people to talk about Defiance (and other topics, here in OT). In regards to discussing games, it's fine, but there's a fine line between discussing a game, and advertising for it. One is ok (discussing), the other (advertising) is not. That's covered in the CoC.
We do ask that you refrain from making threads asking about moderation actions, or what have you, because we can't discuss them, and I'd hate for anyone to get dinged for discussing moderation when it's easily avoided. This includes making threads targeted at any specific moderator or the team as a whole.
As always, if you see a post/thread you feel violates the CoC, please report it, and always keep your replies on topic, civil and constructive. With that, I'll end this wall o' text :)
Thanks so much!
The Defiance Moderation Team
:(So... no public executions? I just made popcorn.
/em evades ;)
LMAO way funny guys.
So what's the difference between advertising and discussing? Because according to the way your mods have been acting - merely saying positive things about another game is against the CoC. We're not allowed to say anything NICE about any game other than Defiance, or the thread gets DELETED now. Not even just locked anymore - it gets outright POOFED!
So, why don't you rephrase things. We're only allowed to discuss games in a negative way. "Man that FFXIV game sucks, it's awful!" That is the only thing that is allowed. "Hey, did you hear about that new FFXIV game? It's in a completely different genre and a totally different type of game than Defiance, but it sure is fun!" Is a no-no.
Now let's move on the the part about singling people out....
Fact #1 - At one time there were TWO recruitment threads for guilds in FFXIV. Not advertising the game, only recruiting for individual guilds. ONE of these threads was moved from Off Topic to the Deutsch General forum...
Fact #2 - During the reign of one unnamed evil tyrannical mod, a thread was locked that was saying nice things about FFXIV. This mod suspended the OP of that thread, which happened to be the same OP of the previous guild recruitment thread, without warning. This was the OP's very first infraction, and it was a suspension.
Fact #3 - A few days later, the OP makes a carefully thought out and well worded thread about FFXIV, but worded so that IN NO WAY could it be taken as advertisement (even had a disclaimer!). This immediately results in a 3 day suspension.
Fact #4 - There have been numerous violations of the CoC tonight and there have been a total of zero bans. Meanwhile, registration to these forums is temporarily suspended due to "Maintenance". I wonder why...
Your mod team is TOTALLY singling out one individual. Now please stop BSing us, and just leave Off Topic alone.
That's actually a fantastic question, so I'll do my best to answer it.
Discussion of a game can be things like "So, XXX game has XXX, I wish Defiance had that" or "I saw XXX in this game, how do you think that compares with XXX?"
Advertising is something akin to "OMG this game is fantastic, you should all come play it!" or advertising for a guild in that game or whatever. When it encourages people to go play the game, it's advertising.
Whilst I understand your frustration, I again say there is no singling out or witch hunts; that's not how our team operates, and if you feel there is one going on, I encourage the affected party to speak up (in a respectful, calm manner), using the email address provided in their warning/infraction.Quote:

If at any time someone feels there's a CoC violation going on, report it, and we'll take a look at it. We may, in the end, determine it's not an actual violation, but on the other hand, it well may be.
The entire moderation team operates according to the same Code of Conduct; we all read the same one you see. If you feel there's a difference in how a moderator operates, realize you may not know the entire picture/reason why something happened. Off Topic, while it has a different set of discussions than the general forums, is still part of the forum, and still covered by the CoC. As such, we can't just "leave it alone"; if a violation's occurring, we still have to handle it.
I won't disrupt the thread with further back and forth'ing, as I know I can't change people's views on the team; you see only a limited amount of us, and it's always us having to swing the banhammer, as it were. But I know the entire team cares about the playerbase, and believes in fostering a good community.
Now I am going to have to go watch that movie.
