Well, nextgen is about here and I'm jumping on board with both Xbox one and ps4. I bought the disc game at GameStop because they were selling it cheap and also a season pass once I got my bearings in game. When ps4 drops I know the disc can't go over and I read the season pass will as its linked to my PSN but how do you get the game over? Will we be forced to rebuy the digital version?
To my knowledge im pretty sure defiance remains on ps3, it will not be converted to ps4, and since ps4 is non compatible with ps3 games. Looks like youll just have to keep your ps3Quote:

Nathan has completely vanished it seems. There are tons of bugs from the Alpha that still haven't been addressed. There's apparently some sort of internal contest going to see who can nerf the most things in the shortest time span.
There are days when I wonder if Defiance is Trion's attempt to take the 'Worst company in America' title away from EA.

Yeah, do you people know how accounts work?
It's not like Nintendo where they use the ancient system of having everything tied to your console. It's tied to your Trion account which is universal which is why they make you redeem codes for your account.
Any character info, Bits, DLC, etc. are tied to your account and if Trion decided to port Defiance to Xbone/PS4 it would transfer over.

They've stated that they intend that all purchased content would be migrated but of course that all hinges upon just how you'll be able to play the game. If you have to re-buy it and pay the full price that might be a bit too much for people to consider. But to me it's perfectly reasonable for them to charge $10 (like you'd pay for an online code with a used game like Black Ops2) in order to defray the costs of porting the game.
And yes, that will cost them money and the arguing will start as to whether next gen consoles should get new material and new missions in the game or whether that would be fair to those that opt to keep playing it on the PS3 and 360.
Xbox1 and PS4 have PC architecture. While the 360 and PS3 versions would have to be "abandoned" as they are incompatible. It should make it easy to port the PC version to the new system, thus hopefully easier to update.
The only questions remains is how long will the old systems be supported, and whether or not Trion things it's financially worth it to port the games to two new system.
Oh and whether the PC and new console versions (if there are ones) get a graphical upgrade in any form.
Considering that the games for the PS2 continued to be developed well into the life of the PS3, it all hinges on the user base for any platform. I can create something meant for a defunct platform if there's a demand. If however there isn't and things switch over rapidly to next gen then yes those might get the attention. That's unlikely given the state of the economy and the questionable nature of any new product. Also, typically at launch units are in a rather short supply so devs are reluctant to put all their eggs in one basket. The PS4 and One may have a larger volume of units available, but demand and use will determine how quickly a past gen game's life diminishes.Quote:

There was an article once that stated that less than half the people that start a game every finishes it. That means they either didn't like the game (possible) or just saw some new shiny thing to chase after that they'd never finish (equally possible). Other people have more limited finances and may get one game a year or have to sell all the ones they have to get a new one.

The thing is neither you nor I have any statistics on which to base any assumptions. But since this game was made by Trion and not under Activision's umbrella or EA's, they have more to lose if someone doesn't like it. Activision and EA can calculate that they don't care if a large segment of gamers hate one of their products so they have no vested interest in doing anything any better.

Those great games have yet to be created and be seen as great games. Seriously, it's silly to call games great simply because they belong to a family of games created by companies that have been delivering their own brand of Shtako. I seriously doubt they are going to just transfer over everything. I had to completely re buy the game on Ps3 to play with my friends on that, which i normally play it on PC. the only time I'd think they would make it so they wouldn't charge you for transferring to next gen is if all the consoles/pc were server linked... which aint ever going to happen. because they can't get along... unlike Square Enix which is going to have a link to ps4 ps3 pc and (possibly) xboxone for ff14
Edit: sorry just ps3 ps4 and pc, but still that's across 3 machines.
