origins of defiance

I think Defiance may have come from a table top battle game (like warhammer) by the same name can anyone confirm?

In my opinion the core of Defiance is Tabula Rasa.

If you are asking this because of the Defiance games company I am pretty sure there is absolutely no correlation.
