EMC Hostile?

I just read in the Q&A That the EMC is a hostile faction? I don't understand how this can be, because while playing beta they were not hostile and i was working with them. the only thing i can think of is that later on in the game they somehow become hostile. Still if that was the case then wouldn't the EMC in the beginning attack you if your getting attacked by them later on (speculation of course)

There is a difference between EMC and E-Rep
EMC = Muties
E-Rep = Human / Votan people

The mutants where once emc now they are hostile mutants.

EMC is a defunct organisation.

The Earth Military Coalition was formed before the Votans arrived in order to repel the Votans. When war between Humans and Votans began, the EMC was the primary Human resistance. With the Battle of Defiance, the war ended without a victor, and the EMC was dissolved. E-Rep is the geo-political body that replaced EMC.

The Defiant Few are made up of ex-EMC and Votan soldiers. Nolan from the TV Series is ex-EMC Defiant Few, and so is Lawkeeper Cooper.

The EMC that still exist do so as part of a rogue organisation. They are represented in the game entirely as mutants so far as I have seen.

To further elaborate, E-Rep stands for Earth Republic. After the Pale Wars the Earth Military Coalition dissolved and the collective left over governments, the former UN, formed the Earth Republic. This organization partnered with Von Bach Industries for an expedition to the Bay Area.
