As an employee of GameStop, you need:
A certain quota of pre-orders
OK'd by district managers
People able to work it
If GS is in a mall, the cost of keeping the doors open
Gamestops get their pre-orders in a few days before release, so if they already have their shipment and you pre-order 2 days before release, there is a good chance they won't get it in til after.
Doubt it would matter all that much anyways since you won't be able to get in game till the servers open and you are allowed to patch.
Depending on the area where the store (Gamestop) is and how many pre-orders they have determine if they have a midnight release.
My district requires a store to have 75 pre-orders on a title to be able to have a midnight release. My store has about 20 and that's only because I've been talking everyone's ears off about this game. I'm upset too about not getting mine at midnight, but knowing I get an employee discount makes up for it since I have 3 copies to pick up.
I work nights and can't pick up my copy at midnight anyway.
What is the point of buying the game at midnight if the servers won't be open for another 8 hours anyway?
My GameStop won't be having a midnight launch either, but I'll pick it up as soon as the store opens, get the install started, and do anything that needs doing to kill time.
