Why did you go to a store for this game? A friend? Reccomendation? etc
I didn't go to a store, I bought it on Steam. I bought it because I love the show.
Nothing "made" me buy it, and I didn't go to a store for it. I chose to pre-order it from Amazon.
Why? I enjoy shooters. I enjoy open-world sandbox games. I enjoy MMOs. I thought this looked to be the first multi-platform game trying to combine all 3 in a way that I'd find fun and interesting. Turns out I was right. :)
tv show-game tie-in appealed to me, and the whole mmo on a console thing, and a mmo that actually takes precision skill appealed to me
steam summer sale. I'm not one to buy games on release, and this was a new and unknown franchise to me. The game only interested me more after I watched the show. I have to say that the launch trailer thats on steam for this game has many misleading things. some of the cutscenes aren't even in the game. But for the price I paid it's was well worth it.
I lost a bet
I read about a new sci-fi show about a year and a half ago called Defiance. I was interested in the fact that there was going to be a game with it. I had never played any games of Defiance's magnitude before and did not intend to play, however I love story and lore and so decided to get the game to have the full experience.
And so far it has worked out better than I ever could have expected.
Tested in alpha. Bought into the believe of significant content to be rolled out consistently over time in correlation to the show and promises made. Choose to get through steam preorder as well because they had a free copy of the legion expansion for rift and other incentives is x copies were sold through steam(which they met those goals).
Didn't go to the store, preordered it on amazon like a few weeks before the game went live, but was playing the beta.
It was being presented as an mmo third person shooter with RPG elements and a tv show tie in where the show would reflect in the game and the game would reflect in the show. I saw that the company was Trion and I enjoyed Rift. So I expected the same level of content and dedication. I enjoy the scifi drama and enjoy most scifi dramas that come out of syfy, so I figured this would be great. They didn't deliver. It's a great concept, but poorly delivered. The transmedia experience was a dud.
Tv show kept my interest, the game? not so much.
Because i used to have faith in Trion once.
Heard about it on launch day, impulse bought.
I was bored with Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, Fallout, and X-Com, and was looking on steam for something new. I checked into it some and it looked promising, it kinda reminded me of Tabula Rasa-esque which also had promise but failed. I really want to see a good sci-fi theme shooter/mmo succeed. I also saw that it was going to have a TV show tied in with it, so I decided to give it a try. I pre-ordered the day before release on Steam so I got quite a few little extras with it. Hopefully things turn around from the current state though, I am unlikely to get anymore Trion games at launch though.
Bought it when it was on sale from Steam about a month ago. Played it for 2 days, ordered the DVD Box of the TV show, have 90 hours on it since. Simply can't put it away anymore. I'm horribly addicted.
Edit1: Just like Orbital I still got a bunch of good memories of Tabula Rasa. It was a fantastic game and I still mourn it.
The music :)

Heard about it a while ago, planned on buying it on release. My wife wanted a holiday on this games release day so we went away and I forgot about it completely until I saw it in the Steam sale a few weeks ago.
WoW kept me entertained for 6 years, but I was getting tired of medieval themes (played UO for 7 years). Tried Never Winter for a couple of weeks, but that was too WoW'ish. My friend suggested Defiance, so we went ahead and purchased the game...got mine from Amazon for about $49. This was my first shooter.
Sad to say, but I've just about stopped playing Defiance after 4 months...I like the game, but there is way too little content, and the map is tiny, with no variance in the landscape.
I'm looking forward to the DLC, but I have my doubts that the game will keep me occupied for a year or two.
Sega closed the doors on Phantasy Star Universe........
I saw a friend playing it for quite a few days in a row. It was someone who I game with a lot and I checked out the listing for Defiance. I went on the brief artwork and cover description. A friend sent a copy to me as a gift.
Nothing "made" me buy it, and I didn't go to a store for it. I've been tracking Defiance since 2010. When it was close to release I joined the forums, became an Alpha tester, and downloaded the game from an online 3rd Party Reseller. I actually DID attempt to buy if from a store, the local Gamestop but they couldn't get their copies until after game launch so I cancelled my pre-order there and bought it on-line.
What caught my interest from the begining was the trans media aspect of tying a TV show to an MMO. I've enjoyed the show a lot this first season. Still waiting for the game to grow up. I suspect it's quite hard to have a meaty game on three platforms.
Promised my niece that when Minecraft 360 came out on disc, that I'd buy it for her. Bought Defiance while at GameStop, since a few clan members were playing it. Had fun at first... because it was playable. Since then, I get booted from Arkfalls regularly. Only one clan member that had it before me is still playing somewhat regularly.
We figured that playing this would help us better understand how Destiny will be.
Alpha tested it, had fun back then. Went back to other games when individual weapon exp was added and weapon skill stopped going up when a weapon capped out, and enemies started getting HP added when more people were in an area instead of more enemies spawning. Not much was more annoying than someone zooming past me on a vehicle and a new wave of enemies suddenly having boosted HP even though the other person was no longer there.
But despite that I decided to pick it up anyway since it's only $10 now, even if it only keeps me busy for a month it'd be worth it. A lot of console games I spend $30 or more on only keep me busy for a few weeks. Better crit multiplier on bolt action rifles helps too.
Bought it after watching the series to give it a try.
Currently my favourite game I've bought 2013... mind you my 2nd is Jagged Alliance Crossfire so that doesn't really say much about my taste lol
I picked mine up on the PS3 the day after the TV show aired because I love the show! I told a friend who got it on the 360 (because they dont have a PS3 so I got the 360 and switched copies. That being said I've loved this game since I started and I will play as long as the servers are active. There was only 1 major issue I had where I couldn't play for two days because they servers would let anyone log in and I had to reinstall twice. Though when they got that fixed my complaints went away.
If I had to go back and get the game / season pass I have to say I would because I still enjoy the game that much.
Was actually holding off as I had per-ordered Destiny already. Was interested but didn't go for it until I watched the show. Decided to give it a try. Very glad I did. Might not be everyones cuppa joe but I enjoy it quite a bit.
:cool:I joined the Beta Free Release using the PSN Store (PS3), first I woundered why a lot of purple points are highlighted on my radar unit ... but I realized after buying the official offerd Games, that this is a really unique Game for the PS3 !
I love 3rd Person Shooters
I love the graphics! (some say the graphics are on a low level, well ... I do love this)
I love Science Fiction very hard
I love mmo´s
I love the inis
I love crusing through defiance
I love playing with all the different gamers from all over the world
I do not want to fight in real life simulatated world!
I downloaded from psn day of release. my husband and I both play and love it. 10 to 12 hour days, love open world and runners
Thought it was going to be the game my friends were playing. I was wrong but I still like it.
I thought it was going to be a TPS MMO with lots of content & progression/endgame.
At first, saw the advertisement on Steam. At that time, my first impression was : OMG what an horrible picture... Not really attractive, doesn't make me want to see what's that game. Plus, the pre-order thing was a complete no-way (still suffering the consequences of ME3).
Anyway, saw later a friend playing the game. Looked nice and interesting, so I bought it. And finally, I don't regret it.
But seriously, the image Trion used for the advertismenet was really horrible.
I traded Meat Hook + Time Breaker for defiance Digital Deluxe + Season pass.
This wasn't what hooked me, but damn I'd forgotten about that video and it what it did to my skin... bumply!!! lol
I found out about the game by way of Ark Codes (and again, thanks to all of you forum nuts that lost days of sleep finding them!) and got pulled in with the Live Action trailer... Pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition in February, absolutely love the messenger bag and the Hell Bug statue that is now making like it's about to eat a Lego Stormtrooper... lol
