yup, you have to weigh your options very carefully. in the usually PvP who cares if I lose, in EVE, if I die, i lose a lot, and it's completely quantifiable. I lose my ship, and it's worth X, it will take me Y time to earn that much. The most I'll get from the kill is Z. is X+Y > Z+satisfaction from killing him? If not, no point.

Console gamers do not work well together is my opinion and I am glad I am on the PC for this shooter.

umm............Cough Cough.......1 Sec............eats cough drop............ Ghost Recon Future Solider was a team based game for Xbox just like Call of duty is. It doesn't matter the system you play on people have different playing styles some are lonewolves some are team players. People need to stop this console pc talk its not the system its the player and the players styles of playing that game at that time. Please stop pitting PC vs Console its pointless see that they are the same no matter the specs.

EVE is a hell of a drug. But to say there are no games with a similar cost on the console is to forget games like Dark Souls.

In EVE when you die you lose your ship (military/industrial/hauler) and your implants (stat modifier), possibly experience too if you were silly. These cost ISK (credits).

In Dark Souls when you die you lose all your Humanity (defense modifier, drop chance modifier, only way to play multiplayer) and your Souls (credits/potential experience). You have one chance to retrieve them before they're lost forever.

In EVE when you die, you don't lose all your ISK. You can recoup your losses even after multiple deaths so long as you didn't invest everything in one egg basket.

In Dark Souls when you die, you don't lose your equipment. You can still fight and kill things to restore your Humanity/Souls count.

And on another note; Dixa and Zartanyen, why the hostility? You have a shared history. You've loved the same games for what seems like the same reasons, in many cases.

That's what's so important about finding a good clan/guild. I hope I can find one in Defiance. That's why I quit Rift, I couldn't find a group of people that handled things as a group the way I'd been accustomed to in EQ, just seemed like a bunch just running up and smacking things. Hopefully there are some good arkfalls or end-game type content we'll see on release or in upcoming DLC.

Don't think he ever said no games with a similar cost on consoles, just that most PvP games have no real consequences. Unfortunately, Dark Souls is also on PC :P

Dark souls does have consequences, you're right, but the PvP aspect is very different, since you have no control over who you'll be fighting, it's either "do I do initiate PvP or not", with no chance to size up your opponent.

I scored pretty high on them. Now that I know a little more, I want to go in with an infector and an SMG for the big hiddeous maw event. SMG on the symbiote, infectors on everything else that's large. shouldn't have to worry about ammo

I didn't get to try out infectors during beta; are they that good?

It is about both the player and the game. I have ordered Defiance for PS3. I have considerable experience with MMO's ,namely Guild Wars - in which everyone is such a great team player, because the game is SO team orientated. I would risk my virtual life, as would my other guildies and practically any other random guy to save someone who was down. However I too have got EVE Dust 514 on PS3 and yes I do snipe alone. Does this make me a bad person? No. I cover objectives and other team mates, prevent captures and take out other snipers targeting my team. But, ultimately I feel the whole game to be rather cold and lacking that encouragement to employ team work. You don't care for you fellow team mates as they're just a faceless, voiceless band of strangers who run in all directions and scrabble around without purpose. This is not down to the players being upon console, as I'm sure others like myself play many different platforms (and I believe PC users can play on foot within DUST too?), but rather the game. You can slander CoD and Battlefield all you like, but I've had plenty of matches on those games where me and a group of total strangers have banded together to prevail, whether it be flanking, or taking an objective or clearing a room full of campers.

TL;DR : Don't hate the player, hate the game. People will play how they want to. Don't assume because someone is playing a console that they have no other port of call for gaming or no past experience of other platforms, i.e. PC.

I kinda liked them but they are close/mid range so it competes with pistol for that slot. Separate ammo type and they hold a lot of ammo.

They were clutch IMO for the major ark falls. They are a DoT so pump a ton of darts int he big bugs sweet spot when out of ammo... if not in the sweet spot didn't seem be very effective IMO. Also if something dies with the DoT still on them they spawn bugs that go onto the next target who will then stop hitting you to hit them... so good distraction for crowd control.

they're Damage over time weapons. Each single shot is crap, but, they'll continuously do damage until the thing dies, so, the more health/longer the thing lives, the more damage it'll do. great on bosses, bad on random grunts.

I think I might prefer the sniper rifle from Steam more, what with the electrical attack (at least I think that was the icon shown on the weapon).

depends how you'd define open world. I define it as not being contained into a specific small map, but somewhere that anyone could just walk into with no restrictions on the number of people on one side or the other. Something other than the 8*8 deathmatch type settings.

Nty :) I was a demon when sniping (even if i do say so myself) - Headshots ftw ^^.

Although I did notice the draw distance of the enemies/interactive items, equipment, scenery etc. isn't exactly brilliant. I hope they improve upon that with the final release to properly do the sniper rifle justice. Let people try for a mile long shot if they want! :D

I like electrics better on shotguns or pistols. something up close so you can use the stun time to finish them or get away. For a sniper rifle I'd prefer a single damage boost instead of a damaging effect over time, since there's a good chance you'll be getting a headshot, the more damage in that single shot does would be higher - if they count the extra damage before the crit bonus. Not sure if any do that though...Bio would probably be the best option IMO, because you'll slow them down making a second shot easier.

Electrical sniper is awesome in PvP though.

For the majority of the Beta I was using a 12 shot pump-shotty with siphon on it. It was an absolutely glorious gun, esp versus cleavers cos I'd keep getting my health back from blasting them in the face.

The amazon preorder is not an infector.

Amazon: The Plague Bringer sniper rifle with a “potech bolt action system which allows you to deliver a high powered toxic round with greater distance and accuracy”.

I was using a 3 round burst vot electric shotty, loved it to pieces, but yeah, I can see how siphon would be awesome in that role. I was mainly using it cloaked, so my shields were usually charged enough to not have to worry about health. siphon would likely be a godsend on any smg/lmg as a tank role... something with a lotta rounds going out to spawn the siphon back in

Yeah with the siphon shotty, pretty much each pull of the trigger refilled one of the knobs on the health bar....that's about 350 health, I think it was said. I love that 12 rounder....just the sound of it reloading got me...rather...excited...

No hostility here from me at Dixa

I like certain games more then others, can't stand a lot and over my vast gaming years have found for me at least, does not matter what the game is it could be a complete hunk of junk but if I like the community and the people I play with and have friends that are on often and on a regular basis I will stick with it to the bitter end, now the game could be the greatest thing to come out in a long time but the community sucks I dislike the people playing it and do not have a lot of friends on it I will leave it no matter how good it is.

People who like the same things will gravitate towards the games they like and those same games will drive away people who dislike that style of game or fan base the problem with most MMO's is to have enough of a fan base left through the years to keep the servers open and new content to keep their interests peak.

I would say the difference between consoles players and PC MMO players is that for a PC gamer you could get a MMO that will give you maybe a few years of gaming enjoyment or for the WOW crowed several years but console games come and go so quickly you might only get a few months out of a game before you move on to the next new thing thats also why from my experiece or what I have seen and been through guilds on the PC last longer then a lot of clans for the console a lot of clans on the console have been game specific at times now a lot move from game to game but guilds for the most part have always done that your odds of knowing people for years in a guild was usually higher then knowing someone for that stretch of time on a console, and the longer you know and play with the same people the better you are a team work with them as it's not a you need to talk about things as much as you just do them because you have been doing these things for years with these people.

There is always going to fan-boy wars on mmo vs single player, CODvsBattlefield, and PCvsConsole. but hey im just throwing in my 2 cents about the game. stop crying, be adults (:
