agreed...communication will always set a group up to win or fail...i play all games, mostly CoD, borderlands, and FFXI. to lump players up with such a generalization is unfair.

I believe we should be embracing all players no matter what gaming background they come from. this game is a huge step for consoles, there's been what 2 mmos on 360, a few others on ps3. we're going to need a huge player base to show microsoft/sony that there's room for more of these games on their consoles.

PC gamers are normally very arrogant people who think that if you don't spend 1,000 bucks for your graphics card then it really isn't a graphics card and will only play mine craft @ low settings.


But I've played both PC MMO's and Console games/MMO's and I can tell you the quality of gamers is the same. on the PS3 beta during co-op games, everyone was very helpful with healing and reviving actually I didn't know there was a way to heal someone till I saw a team member pull out a weapon and do so.

The key with MMo's is to build your collection of noble friends and comrades and ignore the others. That way A) you will only deal with your people and B) they will get the hint, that is how it was on FFXI and you NEEDED other people to accomplish things in the game. You had to work together with people so you HAD to be nice to some degree.

This thread isnt supposed to be about who games better at all SO STOP THE DERAILMENT. I ONLY posted this thread to state that alot of console gamers arent used to the MMO game server setup and that i was irritated with people raging that they cant play the game yet. thats it..lets stay on topic please

They will get the hang of it, though. This is a good game to be able to learn. I am just worried that they will feel slightly more arrogant or useless depending on how many go for the gunner and stealther route as opposed to the healer and tank route.

this is a tps first and mmo second. that being said i have never played a mmo before, although i have wanted to. i mostly play fps/tps games. i think it will be interesting to see how the 2 groups work together. 1 group being primarily mmo players and 1 being tps/fps players who like me have never crossed over. it should be fun to watch different playstyles

You keep saying 'or'. Why not try to do them all! Mostly in the bar though :-)

Being a hybrid I thinks there are things pc mmo gamers and console gamers can learn from each other I dont think you have to have a mic or a keyboard you can see whats happening and switch up find the flow. I will have a mic though its just some may not be into that and thats ok. Its a case of rolling your sleeves up and meeting new friends along the way this game you will choose your own path and hopefully others will come and go along the way :-) there no need for us and them.

I think the game is equally an tps and a mmo, besides if they are going to use the term TPSMMO or FPSMMO, then they should keep it level, not one being more important then the other. if thats the case then the title and concept is just pure propaganda. :/ lol xD JUST SAYING

In the quote above, he talks about staying on topic and such, yet on page 2, he goes on about "COD Fanbois" (WTF is fanbois?) - but hold on, Page 3, once again he is tired of these "COD Fanbois", yet not tired of talking about them. as a PC'r with yrs of MMO behind me , can understand where the op was going

BUT, the tone is off.

This is my 1st shooter and expect some leeway in understanding from console shooter people so will give leeway to them in merging with an MMO

It is a merger of the shooter and MMO worlds so both sides PC vs Console...shooter vs non shooter etc are all going to be learning and growing together along with the game

Honestly a response like this only goes to further widen the PC and Console gamer communities as you just come off as spouting gibberish to them, like they come off to you. It's not very constructive.

We had the same problem when DCUO launched on the PS3, somehow, people who considered themselves gamers had no concept of what an MMO was or how it might be different from any other type of online multiplayer game. Personally, I might be a console only player but it only took me 1 day of playing FF XI at launch to realize there were things I needed to learn and I imagine there will be other people who have similar moments of revelation soon after starting.

For those that don't it's most likely because Defiance (like DCUO) doesn't make it ridiculously, incredibly clear that it is anything other than what it appears to be and many people will not learn very quickly. The solution, of course, is incredibly simple: teach people.

What is required is for some enterprising individuals to take the time to make tutorial videos and post them in threads on forums like this showing people how the perk system actually works to customize a character's role, and then how different roles fit together in a group setting. After that we need to differentiate between PVE and PVP loadouts and tactics and eventually people will learn.

As people who are unfamiliar with MMOs come to the forums to complain, they will see the sticky threads containing the information mentioned above or be directed to it from their own complaint threads and soon enough the people that understand how the game is designed to be played will outnumber those that don't.

I have played many MMO's and this concept
that most console players have no clue about mmo's
is just silly. everyone I know is in their latter 30's
to upper 50's and played Ultima Online and older
mmo's but they're all playing defiance and understand it perfectly.

I'm not trolling, so sick of someone using that word when they get called out on their own hypocrisy. You asked a few posts ago to stay on topic so I addressed your original post, perhaps my point was lost.

You are upset cause of Console gamers making posts to whine about the fact they cannot play and they don't understand.

So you make a post as a PC gamer to whine about Console gamers not understanding MMOs and to be quiet and calm down.

That is not constructive and hypocritical as you are basically doing the same thing they are, posting a whine rant. Would the community as a whole not be better served by a constructive post to try to address all the other post at once? They can be found in every MMO and moba game from WoW to LoL, so stop whining about us Xboxers.

and if you do a google search the avg. age of a ps3 player

ive played all cods and a few of mmos and when I went into this beta I realized cods ppl will love this cuz its not a typical mmo cuz it really don't matter cuz as long as ppl kill you will win and pc player suck against console players but they still think there better than a console player aka this is a shooter mmo its not about gay numbers this will get shooters and number ppl together and most mmos and its players are not use to not using numbers so there going to whine about this game so why don't you just not get it and go back to your flower magic spells and lmao jus shows how they cant cross over to shooters w/o whineing unlike ppl who love shooters can cross over w/o whineing

I'm with you. I like taking my time and mixing it up. One night I'll do nothing but ark falls, another night I'll be cranking out missions, or just running around the map, exploring. I think there's going to be a slight learning curve for both sides. I come from mostly a non-gaming background entirely, so I had to learn things pretty quick over the course of the past 3 Betas. I had *no* twitch skills and couldn't understand why someone would spend their time healing other players. I've received sage advice from hardcore shooter folks as well as seasoned RPGers. As a result of trying to learn from both sides, I've gotten pretty decent at what we've been given so far.

But it only happened because I had an open mind and a willingness to learn from others, regardless of their gaming background. (Which sounds awfully Mary Poppins-ish, and yeah, I kinda hate myself a little for it.)

On the flip side, I don't know if this game will be either extreme's cup of tea. So in a few months time, the shooter 'fanbois' and the PC 'elitists' may not even be around anymore.

if you have played any other MMO and have been on the forums a few days before launch then you know that there are countless threads like "I can't wait till launch" or "things to do untill launch" and so on, I put theses "turn the servers on" in the same pool We console players know and understand what a release date is and like anyone else, we are anxious to play. And if for some reason some sorry sap doesn't understand then let them whine don't add fuel to the fire.

I have only been arguing the points of your original post and offering commentary on your statement. I have not attempt to turn this into a PC vs Console discussion, merely discussing the expectation of behavior that you brought up.

And you are whining when you basically condescend to a group of people, you do not help yourself at all by saying 'your not whining' but rather 'just tired of re tarted people' cause that is just more whining.
