Steam bonuses or save 25% from GMG and spend the savings on in-game currency?
So, I know steam is offering quite a bit of bonuses for pre-ordering from them (cost would be $59.99 USD), but greenmangaming is offering 25% off (cost would be $47.99USD) saving you about $12USD.

So the question stands, how much can $12USD buy you in the in-game store?

    Steam Bonuses include:
    -7 day xp boost
    -Outlander outfit
    -in game title (Iron Demon)
    -Exclusive weapon "Phoenix" sniper rifle
    -Red Dodge Challenger
    -Extra 10 inventory slots
    -A-Tex Growler
    -Copy of Rift: Storm Legion
    -Lock Box
    -Discount on the season pass
    -RM Nomad M4 (vehicle).

So, looking at the above bonuses from Steam, and taking from my long history of gaming experience, the weapon exclusives are pretty useless past a certain point, because you will find better stuff eventually.

Also, the game Rift requires a monthly subscription, so not sure how valuable that really is, plus it's a steam gift code which means you can't resell it (but you could trade it).

Lastly, I don't know if the vehicles in the bonuses above can be bought in-game eventually or not, but I do know the xp boost and lockbox can be bought with in-game store.

So, I wonder how much you could buy with $12USD at the in-game store? Could it be more than the above? I was thinking that if you spend your 25% savings on stuff in the in-game store you could get items that would not be available as a bonus elsewhere, like custom outfits, etc, including buying the xp boost and lock box, plus any vehicles.

Anyway, I don't know what the in-game store prices are so I can't really compare, but maybe someone out there knows?

Also, don't forget, ordering through steam will also give you a discount on the Season Pass, for those getting both, if your planning on going that route.

Ask your self this. Are you getting the season pass too? It save you $10(offer ends april 2nd.), next are you going to play rift+expansion? and do you know any one that want to play it? OR can you trade rift with some one for a different game.

went with steam. the bonus is the DLC is $30 instead of $40. so i spent a total of $90 on this game.

i like the way the truck looks, wanted to sniper rifle and wanted the game connected through steam + the little gadgets.

if you can get 25% off standard, you save $15. not sure if you can then buy the steam discounted season pass or if that is limited to people who preordered through steam. but assuming you pay the normal $40, you have spent $85

$85 vs the steam $90, but with no little bonuses (standard edition + DLC).

however, if you are going with DD edition, on steam you are spending $130 and getting those little bonus items.
on GMG you are spending $115 with no extra bonus items. in this case it may be worth it as $15 worth of bits COULD get you more, better things of your choice.
again, this is DD + dlc

edit: rift pack is the base game and expansion, so you get 30 days free

I like the Steam offer more. In the pre-order from GMG, you do not get inventory slots and a 4(maybe 7 day if the 7 day one from steam is an add on to the 3) day shorter boost.

Plus those vehicles, inventory slots, and lock boxes you get could be $12 worth of in game currency. And the discount and Rift game make it better.

Ok, I did a bit of research and got a better comparison.
This video shows the in-game prices of stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vy-LvmRNA_A

I was also told (in another thread) that the cost of SCRIP as as follows:
    400 Bits cost $5
    1,800 Bits cost $20
    5,200 Bits cost $50
    11,200 Bits cost $10

Watching the above video, I've figured out the prices of items are as follows:

    A-tex Growler: 240
    RM Nomad: 600
Red Dodge challenger: (couldn't find price, but assuming it's also 600)
    Tier 4 lock box: 240
**For the XP Boosts, I don't know how long they last, could be a day, could be a week, etc. I'll assume it's just one day.**
    XP boost individual: 30
    XP boost group: 45
    XP boost clan: 60
    Inventory slots x5: 160
    Inventory slots x10: 300
    Inventory slots x15: 510
    Outfits: 240 each
    Headgear: 150 each

Now we can make a list of the costs for the Steam bonuses:
    -7 day xp boost = 240 BITS(30x7)
    -Outlander outfit = 240 BITS
-in game title (Iron Demon) (no idea, these are earned as achievements I think)
-Exclusive weapon "Phoenix" sniper rifle (no clue, weapons are usually found and then modified)
-Red Dodge Challenger = 600 BITS
    -Extra 10 inventory slots = 300 BITS
    -A-Tex Growler = 240 BITS
-Copy of Rift: Storm Legion (value depends on if you'll use it or not)
-Lock Box = 240 BITS for the Tier 4, but the steam page doesn't specify what tier the lockbox bonus is.
-Discount on the season pass = Steam has not announced what the discount is, but the basic cost from steam for season pass right now is $30 USD, but it appears you don't need to pre-order to get that price.
    -RM Nomad M4 (vehicle) = 600 BITS

If we add all of the above together we end up with:
Total BITS cost of Steam Bonuses (for known values) is 2,460 BITS

You'd have to spend a minimum of $30USD to get enough BITS to buy everything above, because you can't buy exactly 2,460 BITS. The least amount you'd have to buy is the 1,800 ($20) + 400($5) + 400($5) = 2,600 BITS for $30.

The biggest disadvantage of using the Steam bonuses is that they are not really unique, considering everyone else who ordered from Steam will have the exact same outfit and same vehicles. And since buying items from the in-game store is normally done to make your character more unique, it kind of defeats the purpose.

If we bought the game from GMG and spent our $12 (savings) on in-game credits, here's what we could get.
Actually, let's bump that up to $16 to make it even, giving you a total of 1,600 BITS and a total cost of the game ($47.99) + the $16 = $63.99

Using our own money ($16) to buy BITS (1,600):
A-tex growler (any skin we want): 240 BITS
RM Nomad (any skin we want): 600 BITS
    Tier 4 Lockbox: 240 BITS
6 days of XP Boost: 210 BITS
    10 Inventory Slots: 300 BITS

This gives us a total cost of 1,590 BITS leaving us with 10 left over.

Notice that I dropped the XP boost down to 6 days to stay under budget, but we are still missing some items that we couldn't afford:
    -Outfit: 240 BITS
    -Dodge Challenger: 600 BITS
    -Sniper Rifle "Phoenix": BITS?
    -In-game title "Iron Demon": BITS?
And of course no RIFT: Storm Legion

    CONCLUSION:

So, in conclusion it seems the STEAM bonuses are actually well worth the money. The downside is that your bonus outfit is not really that unique, nor is the vehicle skins, lastly the sniper rifle is most likely something you'll replace later on in the game.

However, you do get much more value with the bonuses for Steam, which is worth roughly 840 BITS more than what you could purchase on your own, but you also get the title, RIFT game, and sniper rifle on top of the 840 BITS savings.

Well, so that's my conclusion and I hope it helps some people out there make a decision on where to buy the game. For me, I've decided to buy it from Steam.

all preorders come with the red dodge challenger btw. as do some of those other bonuses. you guys might want to remove some of them from your calculations.

as far as the value of rift + storm legion goes.

it's often been on sale for just 10$ for storm legion on steam. at my local walmart it's priced at $25. steam has a much higher price of $40 currently. but you can easily find it cheaper than it is on steam without looking to hard both online and at retailers.

rift goes on sale for as low as $5 pretty frequently. it's currently priced at $10 on steam. no doubt you can find it cheaper else where.

afaik you'll also need to set up a sub to get your free 30 days in rift.

that's assuming that you don't already own rift. or that if you don't want to play it you can trade it to someone for a game you would like to play, which quite frankly GFL with one bros.
