Update on the Alpha Test Server (formerly known as PTR)

Hey guys,

If you’ve logged into your Trion account recently and checked out the “Manage Games” area. you might have seen something new. This brings me to the point of my post: I have some good news about the Alpha Test Server (formerly referred to as PTR.) The Alpha isn’t 100% fully baked yet, but we decided instead of waiting until early next week, we’d open things up for you to try out today. Please note: there are still a couple kinks we are working through – but what better way to test those than to put it in your hands for a while? So, as of today, we’ve granted access to everyone who owns Defiance on PC and has registered the game to their Trion Worlds account.

The Alpha Test Server is PC only and will require a new, separate install of the game to play. To access Alpha, login to your Trion Worlds account at defiance.trionworlds.com and select “Defiance Alpha Test” from the “Manage Games” section.

Once you get in – play away and post your feedback on the Defiance Alpha Test subforum. The server will not be up 24/7 but I’ll update everyone if we need some downtime and when we are taking the server offline for an extended period.

If you get an error, please post it exactly and what you did!

Please remember that you need to install the game completely again to get into Alpha.

I'm headed down for the live stream but Morgana will be lurking.

Here's a stupid question. If we have a console version of the game can we download this test on our PCs to try it out and participate or do we have to own the PC version of the game?

You must own the PC version to access it. She posted that in the first post.

Thanks, somehow I missed that. I know you have to do it on the PC-play it, but didn't see that you had to own the PC version of the game. It says you have to access your Trion account which I have and have linked here.

At this time, it's restricted to PC only players. We'll be sure to let you know if that changes in the future!

Same error that has been going on for over a week.

The data area passed to a system call is too small"

No one has found a way around it as far as I can tell.

This has been posted on the alpha forums since the 31st of last month :P

Hopefully you guys figure it out soon! =)

Wow, try'n is still in alpha test? Really takes them a long time to do anything which wouldn't be bad if they did things right... Unfortunately they do not, looks like September for the dlc and probably November for these idiots to fix the bugs in the dlc...

We start a new charater or we get our account character there?

If we keep the character do we keep progress (ego rating, loot) when PTS ends, if there are no major issues?

Probably only take 2-5 days for release if there are no major bugs (like the claim items one in the past) and the remain minor bugs will be fixed during live server. (I hope)

Then why did Sledge say they were scrubbed of old posts to make ready for those forums to be used?

That -really- is frustratingly a shame because those older alpha posts could've stayed afterall! Sigh.

So Dahanese are we not getting the plasma fire assault rifles with this dlc? I remember seeing it in a gameplay at e3 but I didn't see it added in the patch note.

I venture to ask what ISP do you run, with speeds like that.

Edit: Bright house networks? Never heard of them, guessing they are providing fiber optic options?

New character, you don't keep what you find. However your new character can collect your store purchases and arkfall codes/ preorder items, deluxe items

I see no reason why the console players couldn't go to their game manager and add the Alpha. If they cannot do so, that should be addressed by the Development team. Owning a copy of the game is owning a copy of the game. Console players should have access to the PC Alpha Test server.

Just a thought, but maybe they freaking own a Xbox 360 / PS3 and can test things themselves. A PC isn't like a console as you very well know. Each being very different from each other...

Besides that fairly obvious reason, the thought of running three public test severs and the costs of doing so on a B2P game is just not reasonable. They have to folk more money over to M$ and Sony on top of their own costs just to do it..

Been very iffy on this game from the start. That said these changes are going to be the sort of thing that will wind up making me change my mind (presuming most of them make it to the live server)! Oh and I like that you guys have a test server up. Wasn't aware of it until today. I do enjoy providing feedback and trying to break things - so I'll definitely have to take a look.

I jus finished a volgue siege. We started out with only two players and it was VERY hard. Eventually we built up to 7 players and we took it to stage 5. Very fun fight, so-so rewards.
