Feeling a bit jilted

Installed Defiance a few days ago and ran to ego 117 and attempted "into the depths"
main quest using a sniper rifle and blue combat shotgun.

The game seems stupidly difficult since multiple elite mobs spawn and the only way
to kill them is to hit and run - draw a few sniping and shotgun them down. This is not
statisfying since it takes too long and you must ignore the downed and begging NPC.

Got jilted at the end of this main line quest
where you are locked in a small area with a secret weapon, many
up close sluggers and a bioman with a minigun. No more hit and run. After a while the secret
weapon disappears. Died only once before that but kept dying here at the end - no way out,
no more secret weapon locked up with many mobs - can't hit/run - respawning, respawning,
respawning...

uninstall.
Belongs in the bargain bin where I found it.

Back to secret world and neverwinter.

Lol, hearing someone say this game is too hard is really funny. This game isnt hard at all. Its way too EASY! You must just be doing something wrong.

It sounds to me like a sniper rifle/shotgun combo just doesn't suit your play style. Some parts of the game are quite challenging early on (ignore those that tell you it's easy; either they are lying or were just blessed with much better reflexes), but you shouldn't give up just yet. Try some different weapon combinations until you find the ones that suit your play style. It takes some time and experimentation, but is quite rewarding on e you have it figured :) I still die quite often, but the games difficulty is much more manageable and death is normally because I make a silly mistake.

WoW player tries new game, fails, ragequits, goes back to WoW.

BTW, unless you were doing something obscene with the CD while you were playing, you didn't get 'jilted'. :p

Have you tried any other weapons combinations? Unlike an MMORPG, using a ranged attack at close quarters spells death. Instead of a sniper rifle, perhaps an assault rifle paired with the shotgun would be more ideal in this situation. You can still tag mobs at range to pull them, but don't suffer the slower fire rate and difficulty aiming when they close on you.

You could also try a detonator or rocket launcher at range to thin them out or at least weaken them so they're easier to take down when they get closer.

It doesn't really sound like you spent much time trying to learn the mechanics of a shooter. It's noticeably different than standing still throwing fireballs at a dumb AI.

Well I am going to be a bit kinder and constructive... The game have a bit of a learning curve I suppose, its generally considered to be too easy than difficult actually! I would suggest patience and trying to go at it again, if you are having that much problem then maybe your twitch reflexes aren't up to par for the TPS elements of the game, its a shame you can't bring in friends to fight with you in the solo missions but its how it is.

The mutants are some of the mid range enemies also, I'd suggest an assault rifle if you have one (a burst one especially) to replace your sniper rifle if you cannot use that effectively in close range! SMG's and LMG's are perfect, shotguns are hit and miss (haha literally) with PVE, you can get overwhelmed just tryign to use it effectively.

That about sums it up. I may dislike Defiance for other reasons (crappy lockbox system for example) but the game is not exactly difficult in any way. The final boss might challenge you if you aren't great at shooters, but even he can be beaten easily.

Sounds about right. lol

Ok actual helpful tip: use a ar/lmg/smg for one weapon and if you insist on snipers, make the second a semi-auto random (ranger) to start, or a scatter shotgun, if you want a shotty instead because your ar/lmg/smg will get you plenty of range. I personally go with A ba sniper and a Vbi AR most of the time on and Overcharge build. But remember I have also played since beta so I have an idea of what I am doing with my Ba.
