I don't know about you, but I would totally play an MMO that allows me to be an asexual giraffe.

I dont care if guys play female characters... Biggest reason, I actually have a social life and go out and meet people in the real world. So to those who get caught up in relationships online, when you meet "eve" and really turns out to be "Steve" then thats your own damn fault lol.
I never got the Online dating thing and meeting from video games. While I know people who are in a relationship and have actually met someone they fell in love with and ended up meeting and later getting married. Those people have talked via phone, vent etc etc for years prior. So if you just go out on a whim and assume all female characters are female... you should not use the interwebs.
Lol.. You can't pose as a female character. Your character is male or female and entirely independent of the gender of the individual. This is a role playing game for sure, what kinds of roles you want to play vary, but playing a role (Whether it be a support class, or acting out a fantasy life) is not posing. It simply, is. Now, what seems to be the problem is not someone "posing" as a female character, but posing as an alternative gender in real life. Not sure why gender is such a debatable topic, any way you phrase it you're a sexist for treating anyone differently based on their gender, which in general is not a great practice. Quit with the sociology bs and play the game, leave that meta-game stuff out of it.
Hell, that's a game I wouldn't by so wary of a $60 price tag with lol. Now I'm thinking about what kind of game play could incorporate an asexual giraffe and humans.. People are going to turn my statement into a very bad discussion...
