Guys who pose as Female Charaters in MMO's A.k.A MMO Catfish

you guys/gals ever seen that MTV show Catfish? Its pretty much a show where they meet some one whos been speaking a some one online for a long time and are in love with them but have never met the person then these 2 guys help them meet to see if they are who they say they are in person which in most times it aint its a different person than in the pics,some guy posing as a girl or girl posting as a guy

anyway to my point

Their are alot of guys who play as female characters so they can try charm free things off of guys like a cyber gold digger lol happens all the time ive caught a catfish or two of my own one tried and tried and tried to sweet talk me (via in game text) and then say hey do you got a few thousand gold you can give me and when i never would get mad at me until one day they said BTW im a guy and you thought i was a girl your sad...... yea im the sad one

Have you ever ran into one of these catfish? and if so what happened
if not whats your view on this? maybe your a catfish who would like to tell us about some huge item some one gave you

I just assume 90% of female toons are male. sry that just seems to be the case. I am prolly wrong but it is safer to assume that.

Never bothered with them. Yea sure, you can chat with players and stuff, but hoping or looking for a relationship or whatever in game is not something I'd recommend. Lol. Search in real life for it.

Lol i play a female character but as a personal choice not to get things for free. Id rather look at amgirl for hours on end then a man

lol no this show is like some guys speaking to a girl hes never met on the internet this documentry crew come hear his story about him and this person hes been speaking too then these guys check out this persons profile find evidence it might be fake then set up a first time meeting and it turns out to be a gay guy posing as a girl to speak to boys or a guys ex getting revenge on him by making him thinks some one likes him along them lines

Yup. Sometimes the gender is also not appropriate for the class :P

I sometimes play as a girl character but for the most part I play as a guy unless a game has gender lock for classes. I'll probably be making a girl on Defiance just cause I can but I won't take advantage of people lol.

I never understood why people get in to relationships like that. If you have any doubts about a person's integrity - why go through all the cameras and spying and stuff? Just end it.
The same could be said of all those shows like "Cheaters" and whatnot.

Some people just like to go through dramatic experiences, I suppose.

i know i aint into looking at a guys back side hours on end lol in the beta i actually picked my characters class on the fact she had hot pants on haha

yea i know these people spoke for sometimes upto 5 years but never on the phone because the person always said it was broke and had the same 3 pictures for the past god knows how long and they still dont get suspicious *facepalm*

Lol, every MMO I play I make a female and male character. It is just what I do. I also let people know up front that I am a guy when playing my female toon. Lol, why would I want to try and fake to get free stuff? I like to earn what I get. Lol, it is funny people do this though. So pathetic....

Here I thought this was going to be a complaint about guys playing girl characters. Generally what sex I play(assuming classes aren't locked to a specific sex/race), depends on animations and or character.

However, for guys to fall into "cat fishing" in a game to me is quite sad.

Well, the way I think about it is: The character is not me*, so I pick what I wanna pick and male gender characters are most of the time boring looking or are boring lol. The people you should have a gripe with is the ones who actually pretend to be a girl(if not already just talking about them).

*Hence, I give the character it's own name. In the beta I didn't give my character a name, as in for the character but in the actual game I will. I didn't in the beta because I didn't have the ''playing the character, not me'' mindset totally lol.

True story - I actually met my irl girlfriend (going on two years) on the internet by pure random chance. I'm fairly sure I just got lucky to find out who she really was as a person as quickly as I did, and none if it was forced. It all just sort of happened in a few months span.

However, some people have no common sense. I'd say the vast amount of the time it's just someone screwing with the other person. If they can't do some menial task like pick up a phone, have a few pictures, and/or have a video conference in 2013 then any person in their right mind should see those as red flags.

Anywho, people who try to find/force love over the net on top of no common sense is just a recipe for disaster. Luckily there are plenty of stupid people out there, so I'm sure the shows have lots of candidates to put on t.v! :D

Don't be like Manti Te'o, follow this unwritten rule: EVERYONE is a guy until proven differently. If you have to get them to post pic with date and random word written on paper in photo.

In my case, her proof just came to me in spurts. I didn't have to ask for anything. I did the same going the other way and we did little things like that at a leisurely pace. You shouldn't have to beat proof out of the other person, it just happens. Again it's just common sense stuff, if they care about you they'll open up to you and want to share their real life not hide and find ways not to show their true self.

If you're a guy playing a girl and act like a girl to get stuff in game, that's absolutely pathetic.

I make female characters just to have em. I don't go "putting myself out there" in more vulgar terms to get free stuff. I have a female character just because they look different than males, and it's also how I play the character. Most of the time my females are either sneaky or healers, and the brutish characters are male. But I would never make someone think I'm a girl. That's just plain silliness.

Honestly, guys pretending to be girls is a good thing especially on console. I play with a few female gamers and you have no idea the kind of negative attention they get in game. Flirts, messages, even threats float their way every single day.

well i know a couple actual female players in MMos and they ahve never tried to get free stuff afaik :D i always play my main as a guy and try to customize him to look like me : DDDD... but i do make female alts ^^ and some some times ppl think im a girl cos i use a female-ish name for that toon and then i have to be like "dude im a guy" in as gruffy a voice as possible :p

After 16 years in MMO games I'm yet to see female character actually flirting or asking for money. Also

I am very similar, when most games have females and males hyper-sexualized I would rather look at a chicks *** all day than a dudes. But I always make it the first thing known about me that I am a dude.

I will play characters of either gender, as long as the character looks good and fits into the concept I have for that character. I don't ask for free stuff from players, and frankly I wouldn't want it because far too many guys think that I will now be their girlfriend. That is something I have never understood: Using online games to try to get dates. If I want to use the internet to find someone, there are websites that specialize in that.

Due to having had my very own online stalker in another online game, I have a strict policy in place: No personal information, ever. I don't care how good of friends we become; it's just not going to happen. Those that can accept that will find me a good friend, those that can't get ignored.

Oh.....you greatly, GREATLY underestimate how desperate and lonely some people can be. It applies to women, too...but as far as online stuff it's males who are usually the culprit.

Think about it. A great deal of people haven't been in the sun in years. They get what might be a member of the opposite sex to talk to them online, and clinginess/gift showering ensues.

It just baffles me; who would want to ***** themselves out that way? Not the ones giving the gifts, I mean the ones playing female characters to get free stuff. Then again, I remember when Age of Conan launched there was some kind of scandal with a GM who was 'cybering' with a female character for a long time, and then the character told them they were a guy. /shrug

To be fair most people will try to exploit situations or people for money, objects, attention.... It's just how life is.

I always go with the tiniest toon possible. In some games, female and male toons are about the same size, especially for smaller races, like gnomes. Why do I care how big or small the toon is? The smaller you are, the harder you are to target in PvP, so I want the smallest toon I can get.

I didn't make a female toon in beta, but they seemed smaller in-game. It looked like there were a lot fewer pixels on the female toon vs on the male toon, and like the devs said several times, this is a pixel perfect shooter. For that reason, I will probably make a female toon in this game for PvP reasons. It may not give a huge edge in PvP, but hey... every little bit helps.

So please remember that there are other dudes playing female toons for this very reason. For god sakes don't try to hit on us. Find a real GF.
