I guess my time in Kosovo fallujah Iraq and afganistan was for corporations. Thanks for clearing that up!!!! What a Naive point of view.

Probably one of the most close minded things i have heard in a long time. I hope your tinfoil hat protects you from contrails and the Illuminati.

Well when you find that perfect world where there is no war, let us know. In the mean time, there are soldiers fighting, and dying, for you. Don't respect that? Then that's a shame. Enjoy your freedom. That being said

like i said...its the gov that puts our country out there in the positions we are in now, thats why we need a military because believe it or not...there are real people/countries that hate and want to kill all things american. im gonna guess that you have never served...and im gonna hope you never have to leave your keyboard and do what so many other brave people volunteer for. one thing of which is to let people like you hide behind and voice your opinion from that keyboard. lol.

First off, God Bless our Soilders.....

Now thats is taking care of, i do not get the fetish with the military.
Unless you sign up in a time of war, you get no special respect from me.
Sign up on peace time and you get zilch from me. We all know why you signed up, seldom is it
for love of your country, more to do with bragging rights and some of the bets schooling available.

I am not afraid to die for my country and will serve when NEEDED. When my country is actively invaded by a foreign government or our own corrupt leadership, then i will grab my rifle and protect what belongs to me, and i am not afraid to die for that cause.

In the meantime, i will not enlist to fight in a war of which i know nothing about simply because some General instructs me to shoot at so & so person.

In my family, if you are not in the service (or police, fire fighting, or paramedic) by age 25, you are no longer invited to the family reunion. However, that said, my family has had a long and honorable military service since long before the Americas were colonized by Europe. As in dating back to the time of the Crusades.

More recently, my family joined the Colonial forces after having been sent over by the Crown to put down the uprising. They believed in the freedom and ideology espoused by the United States. For their service, we were given a small plot of land in New York for a supply depot (still called Ellenburg Depot--my surname).

I will admit that one of the reasons I signed up was for the college money. I signed in July of 2000. I went into the National Guard so that I could pursue my degree through ROTC and obtain a commission. However, my reason for signing up was not the college money, that was just a perk. My reason was for patriotism and love of country.

So, before you heap all of any group into one pot, perhaps you should examine more of your motives for attempting to do so. Sure, there are some who signed up for the college or for the job skills, but there are far more who signed up for the same reason their fathers and grandfathers signed up... because they love their country.

Oh, and before you say anything bad about the National Guard, I served in CONUS (Continental United States) for three forest fires, two severe winter storms (blizzards), and volunteered to assist with Katrina. I never once passed up a voluntary duty where I could aid my fellow human beings and alleviate their suffering... even going so far as to stay in New Orleans after my unit returned to Oregon so I could assist with the Salvation Army in their duties... without pay.

My hat is off to all of you who have worn a uniform. This is not just for military uniforms, but any uniform where you serve a greater purpose and offer a level of self sacrifice for the common good: military, law enforcement, firefighting, public safety, paramedic. We are all brothers and sisters and I would be honored to meet and share a drink with you.

I worked as a postman once - we wore uniforms ;) does that count too? If so, thank you

You underestimate the self determination for power some people on earth have. The military is now more important than ever for there are countries on earth that would seek to disrupt peace no matter what the consequences. It is human nature after all.

As for "That being said the only solders I would ever have respect for are the are the ones that fought the British, civil war and the world wars" im not british im Scottish but that still offends me as no matter what you think your country was founded by the British, French, Spanish and Dutch people who later became the first Americans (Excluding native americans who where there long before that).

Ive fought in places around the world and I respect all soldiers who fight for their country.

Please note this is not me trying to cause an argument, the facts can be found anywhere online.
