I'll wait a while until the move to redwood is complete to see how the new devs there will deal with this game. If I feel confidence on the new team I'll buy the season pass. I hope the community team (looking at you dahanese) will supply us with a good deal of info when everything is consolidated in redwood.

Unfortunately, no. While I've been a loyal customer of Trion Worlds since Rift launched (give or take a couple of months here and there where I didn't play any MMO due to too heavy a workload), the work on Defiance has been subpar at best. It's the type of work I would expect from Cryptic Studios, but not from Trion based on their continuing great work on Rift.

Two weeks after launch, I got a refund for the original $60 and let them close the Defiance account linked to my main Trion Worlds account. I recently purchased a new Defiance account for $9.99, which I felt was a fair MSRP, all things considered. After testing the DLC on Alpha Server and looking at the paid versus free content of it, I've decided to not purchase DLC 1 or the Season Pass (which I have found for $30 at Steam).

I like Trion Worlds, but even a company of which I am a fan must earn every penny they get from me. Whether or not Defiance (or even Rift) continues to generate revenue for continued development is on Trion to comvince myself (and consumers like me) to make purchase investments in the product line. They've done that with me on Rift (where I still subscribe, despite a stellar F2P model), but have failed to do it with me on Defiance (and I am also a huge fan of the show, so I enjoy the franchise).

What if Rift or Defiance should one day close, then? Well, I enjoyed Earth & Beyond before EA shut it down. I had a lot of RP fun with dozens of friends in Matrix Online, before SOE shut it down. And I also enjoyed City of Heroes (my all time favorite MMO), and that shut down November 2012. Ditto for the old SWG days, and it shuttering in December 2011. It happens, and there are other games out there.

So, for me, I won't further invest money in the Defiance game until Trion Worlds shows me that it is an investment worth making. There is absolutely no guarantee that any money spent by us on Defiance will go to Defiance, and not to Rift or any of their other game investments. So, it's a catch-22 for any developer. To get people like me to financially support a game, they have to show that money is actually being pumped into the game on a steady basis.

And, some might ask, what if my subscription to Rift filters over into Defiance investment? That's fine. As long as Rift continues to see its normal level of development. Otherwise, my purchases toward that game will also cease. It's the nature of commerce.

Well... Yea.... Duh. I'm pretty sure we're all at that same conclusion when it comes to Online games continuing to live long & prosper versus the neck pinch 'o' doom. The Vulcans are money for the moment >.>

But even w/o p!ss-poor management and awesome fundamentals the initial box cost we all plunked down isn't enough to run the whole shebang forevah. Eventually it will run out and then we're back at the realistic point of new funds required for continued growth and longevity.... Hence the "gas."

I was actually hoping for a clown car canon but okies, v.v'

    I never get what I want. :(

Can anyone answer if you do NOT buy the dlc you can still play the new capture hold map?
You can get in players 4 seat trucks?
You can get charge weapons from lockboxes?
Only things you do not get is a chance to become an alien character and to play the arena's which are like 4 tier rampage missions?

If the only 2 things the DLC is offering is a character change, arena's which sound like the mini games and some bonus weapons it is not really worth the hours it will take patching. I wanted new story content :(

Trion's communication has improved a lot in the past couple of weeks I hope this DLC satisfies their player base. They are certainly trying and I would like to say Ill check back for DLC2 but that is Christmas and I doubt I will ever think to play it again.

I said from the start that I was waiting for it to be out so people I trust could play it and tell me about it before I decide.
Thanks to the test server, that part has already happened. Now I am going to wait until it is released, so I know it really is here, then I will buy my season pass. Not only that but the season pass comes with a lockbox so if I wait til the dlc is released then I have more chance of more charge weapons.

Their increase in communication, and actual communication (showing us their responses to our idea's etc) has given me a reason to buy the seasons pass just to support them.

I'm still waiting for Trion to earn it. I took a long break from all this because it was getting too frustrating, and I come back to the same ol' thing. Trion not fixing whats ailing the game, BUT pushing heavily for users to purchase in-game items/content/etc....

Stop insulting us w/ this crap

I brought the season pass on launch because i knew this being a console mmo it would struggle without support
I considered my season pass as a yearly subscription with benefits, even with all the bad i think this game has earned the cash that i put into it

I will purchase the DLC only if they fix the arenas and the raptor.
