I expect at the very least ports will be made for PS4 and XB1, whether it gets a graphical upgrade or not is the unknown.
Oh and when. I expect at least a year after the launch of the new systems we'll see ports, though it could be sooner if they are making the new systems a priority.
This needs to happen for the PS4, once my pre order of PS4 is picked up, my PS3 will never be touched again.
Thing is a lot of people won't be getting the PS4 or the one right away for many reasons-money, availability, game titles, desire to wait and see how reliable they are and which gets the best reviews, and so on. So, games that are on current gen consoles might more slowly go nextgen, but nextgen console games are likely to get current gen versions earlier on.
The 360 and PS3 still have a lot of life in them, and MS and Sony are still selling them-will probably try to sell off remaining stock and drop the prices on them. So, anything could happen-what will happen remains to be seen.
I do plan to get the PS4 when I can and would like to play Defiance on it.
this won't happen, they are having enough issues trying to make it work on current consoles, you think they are going to be able to re configure the game for next gen consoles?
or are willing to? AHAH.... no
And for anyone else that skips that post heres what they said.
Quote:
the defiance video game has been crippled with server instability and other problems, but the game’s developer, trion worlds, plans to release the video game on the next generation of video game consoles, namely the xbox one and playstation 4. According to nathan richardsson, trion worlds’ executive producer:
At a point in time when those consoles are in the market, we’d very much like to be on them. You should be able to continue your ps3 experience on the ps4, and the 360 experience on whatever it is that’s coming out. The way we’d do it is, the first iteration would be using the same client that we have. There shouldn’t be any need for a port. We’re essentially just moving our client between consoles — it’s the same client.
Sorry, nintendo lovers, it doesn’t look like defiance will be available on the wii or the wiiu. Although there is no official word on when the xbox one or the ps4 will be released (we don’t even know what the ps4 will look like), it is believed that microsoft and sony’s next generation consoles will arrive in time for the holiday season at the end of this year.
Had Defiance been a SOE project, you would see it on the PS4. We all know that it's the only reason DCUO is making the jump. Same for Planet Side 2, though that doesn't currently exist on the PS3. Wouldn't surprise me if Dragon's Prophet is also ported.
Yes except you are not really quite reading exactly what was said. NR (gone now) said "at a point in time when these consoles are in the market, we'd very much like to be on them."
There are many factors they'd have to consider and that quote does not say they will be on them, rather that they'd like them to be. I would think there's every possibility for it to happen but until they commit to it, they haven't committed to it. Look at God of War for the PS2. It took forever for them to decide to port it to the PS3 and it was one of the most successful franchises on the PS2. Part of the reason was there were still so many PS2s out there and the original PS3s could play PS2 games.
I think it would be great for Defiance to be on the next gens but some devs do stay away until there are vast numbers of the consoles out there so that there are more potential customers to offset the porting costs.
And in that quote, NR is saying the character data wouldn't have to be ported but the game would.
