The way companies work, there is one overworked guy that did the KB security patch causing the problem, and hes out on vacation. NO one does his work while he is out so its sitting on a growing pile of things to fix when he gets back After a couple weeks back you have to work twice as hard for two more weeks to catch up. There are four million other games that work, so he doesn't care. I think its more likely the defiance will come up with a work around first. Then again its Microsoft, so the fix to the problem will be worse. Then there will be a fix to the fix. The next fix will mostly work. There is a thread where the guy tells you how to remove that update from your list. I have done that and turned off autoupdate, and its not coming back on till their IS a fix. That defiance says works, not Microsoft. I did twenty years in unix.. dealing some with Microsoft on a sideline. That's my advice.

With the poor coding and plethora of issues Defiance has, it is unfair to dump the blame on Microsoft unless the issue is affects many other programs/games. It could very well be shoddy coding conflicting with the fix.

I have known many a programmer who 'knows an easier way to do things' which utilizes the code in a way that it was not meant to be used, and when a patch comes out that creates issues, they do not know where the problem is because they did not code to standard. Such a sloppy shortcut would not surprise me at all coming from Trion, a company which can not fix bugs in code designed for 10 year old standards.

If you want more info on it click the link I provided (last link), directly from microsoft. I doubt if it were that simple they would have had a work around for the programs it affects. This article was posted as soon as the patch was released so they knew it had issues beforehand. It is even effecting some native windows programs, even BSOD's for some users at bootup. And seeing this issue has a more prominent effect on x64 based systems this is not pure API error from 3rd party application development (so don't blame Trion). Otherwise this issue would be a problem on and across both x86 and x64 plats and it's not just Win 7 or 8; XP users have also started to report the miscellaneous problems specifically with KB 2859537 (I've verified this on one of my old XP machines )and XP does not have the more advanced secure & priviledged states that Win 7 & 8 have. I've posted this on other threads as well as you may have noticed, yes I'm a little pissed it happened because it completely corrupted one of my server apps. But I hate seeing people jump on Trion when it's not their fault. In short, 6 of those updates were botched including the one affecting Defiance & Rift.

Some other articles concerning this update (KB 2859537):

Just decided to re-link the original article from Microsoft:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2859537

REPOSTED FROM ANOTHER THREAD, NOT ONLY DID MICROSOFT BOTCH SIX UPDATES AT ONCE THIS TIME THEY HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED, ADMITTED AND HAVE NOW PULLED MOST OF THEM. links now fixed.

Rift was able to fix their game. I suspect Defiance will use a similar fix.

Just uninstall the windows update, it will take you all of 15 seconds, and it won't make your computer explode or give you AIDS or kill your dog. Reinstall it once Trion issues a compatibility fix.

Sorry but that is NOT the way I expect these things to work. Trion should have been on top of this BEFORE the MS patch. And yes, MS should be on top of the potential problems BEFORE they release the update.

Currently as it stands now, I am uninterested in the new DLC coming on the 8/20 simply because this issue should have had top priority. Why would I wish to spend more money on a game that won't run.

So... you're saying that you think Trion should have been working on a compatibility fix for an operating system update before that update existed... Do you realize how stupid that sounds?

You may rejoice then, as the fix is coming with the DLC / patch today: http://forums.defiance.com/showthrea...=1#post1178403.

The easy explanation for NON-PC tech savvy people.

It is not just this game. A lot of MMO games by trion, sony, and several FTP asian games broke also. Microsoft really ****ed up. There is not work around that defiance can do, when microsoft BLOCKED the kind of vehicles that most MMO's use.

Pretend MMO's all use VW bugs to move data. Now pretend Microsoft told the police to drop a nuke every time they see a VW bug.
Sure all MMO companies affected could switch to a new car, but that would cost a fortune for those companies. It would be easier for Microsoft to just stop nuking the bugs.
