Just wondering if there are any Defiance players also playing FFXIV. If so, what world? Perhaps we'll run across one another.

I was on Midgardsormr.. till I got 3102'd. Ugh.
Was going to try it out but I couldn't get on my clan's server.
I'm on Coeurl right now. Might change servers but dunno. In general I'm enjoying the game but haven't been giving it too much priority since too many freeloaders are flooding the servers to try it out as a free trial/demo of sorts. And it's making most areas really laggy as a result. Plus I wanted to get the Plum Dodge Challenger in Defiance + get some more Summerfest stuff done in RIFT today, since their events are ending shortly.
I played the closed beta. I didn't like it that much. I'm sticking with defiance for a bit longer
Hells yes! Been in closed beta, played straight through this one til they shut down for server maintenance a few mins ago. I'm on Leviathan, char name Numina Love, with a few real life friends and old friends from FFXI. Hit me up if you are looking for a server or a group to hang out with :)
I was going to try this new Final Fantasy MMO but then I remembered it flopped harder than a big ... floppy ... thing ... already so decided not to bother.
Plus the last Final Fantasy MMO was so terrible even Age of Conan took pity on it.
If I had a stronger GPU I would be. But aside from that. I don't wanna pay the 13 a month.
I do not like any of FF. Not my type. :)
FWIW I'm not particularly a Final Fantasy fan, the last ones I played through were on the PS1 and I felt that while they were enjoyable enough they also were the first games to teach me the true meaning of 'grind'. To make things worse FFXI is on my short list of MMOs I regret buying (and I've bought most of 'em), and set my record for least time played before uninstall.
Given all that, I ignored FFXIV entirely when it originally launched, but at some point I signed up for the FFXIV ARR beta and ended up getting an invite to P3, and, of course, have played more than a bit of P4 (which for NA servers ends at 8AM PDT today).
I won't say it's a perfect game, because it's certainly not, nor am I convinced it'll be my next big MMO addiction as many of my friends seem to be -- sadly, most of them do that for every new release, even though they're otherwise reasonably intelligent adults and should really know better. Fact is I haven't even decided if I'm going to pre-order or not, though that has more to do the amount of time I'm willing to put into gaming having decreased vastly in the last year or so.
It is, however, a very good game, an MMO in a sense games like Defiance and GW2 are, IMHO, most assuredly not, and it has most of what I look for in a game I could see myself spending a year or three playing.
By all accounts it is vastly improved over the first version of FFXIV, having never played V1 I can't really speak to that.
The world is beautiful, it reminds me quite a lot of pre-searing Ascalon in GW1, one of the most beautiful environments I've seen in an MMO. Everything is very detailed and visually immersive. Character models and animations are quite nice and varied. Mob models are likewise varied and detailed, but tend towards to pokemon cutesy style -- personally I don't have a problem with that, but I can see how some might. There are a wide variety of classes and activities available and since you can learn all of them it'd take quite a while to run out of things just to level.
I've played it on the PS3 briefly and was impressed by how good it looked, how well it ran, and how easy it was to use with a controller. The ability to play the same character on either a PC or PS3 and swap between them is nice, if not a feature I'd be apt to use. Overall I probably would have preferred that they skipped putting it on the PS3, as I think some overall design decisions were limited by the PS3's capabilities, but the ability to have the game look that good and have a UI that is fully functional using either a controller or a keyboard/mouse is impressive.
Trion's devs would do well to have a look at what they've managed to do with cross-platform for FFXIV ARR, it puts Defiance to utter and complete shame in every possible way.
On the downside I tend to find the music a tad annoying. Just a personal thing, as I know a lot of people like it. Combat tends to be a tad boring. At least up to level 20 the number of skills you have is fairly small and the 2.5sec GCD makes things downright lethargic. It's also easy. As in really, really, really easy. I assume at some point it must ramp up, but up to level 20 or so you'd have to either be completely new to MMOs and/or sleeping to be at any real risk of death. It also handholds a lot, even by modern MMO standards. For instance, mobs you need to kill for a quest have a particular icon hovering over them. "Dynamic" events, called FATEs here, are the same sort of zerg spam crap you see in Defiance, Rift, and GW2 (oddly, WAR, IMHO, did the DE thing better than those who have tried to copy it).
The big sin, the only one I really find potentially problematic, is the zoning. There is a lot of it. Even starter cities are broken into two zones. Overworld zones are fairly sizable, or at least some of them are, but even so you'll find yourself going from zone to zone fairly frequently. Worse, the map system kinda sucks. It isn't hard to figure out where to go, once you get your bearings, but the combined effect is to make the zones feel like discrete discontinuous chunks, as if they were different planets rather than chunks of land right next to each other. AoC had that problem as well, at least to me, and I found it very off putting. I was shocked to see this much zoning in a current MMO, especially when games like WoW, FE, and numerous others have been doing huge chunks of land without zoning for eons now. Best I can guess, it's a function of the PS3's limited memory bandwidth.
Anyway, fwiw and all that.
Not on your life will I give that game one minute. Got sucked into buying the original CE edition for my wife and I. The game was total garbage, and still is total garbage going by the few friends that decided to give the beta a go lately.
Talk about destroying a great name in gaming. GG Square Enix!
Playing on Behemoth and spent this past weekend taking 4 classes to 20.
Game will easily be my one and only until EQN launches (and possibly after--I'm not sold on the EQN concept yet). The depth and attention to detail in FFXIV:ARR simply blows away other recent MMORPG launches and SE puts out more information and is more open with their playerbase in a week than Trion's Defiance team does/has been since Alpha.
This weekend's server/database issues aside, the game is basically in perfect condition for a launch (yes, it helps to have failed previously). They might tweek class balance a bit post-launch, but I expect minimal bug fixes needed and a quick jump to content and systems patches.
Simply put, it's exactly the deep, slow-paced, complex game I've been looking for the past couple years.
Yeah, consoles aren't the excuse for Defiance's shortcomings anymore. And just to re-emphasize it for everyone: FFXIV:ARR is cross-platform, not just multi-platform. PC and PS3 play together on the same servers.
They're adding a music player to the game post-launch so you can pick and choose what to play or just loop the stuff you do like. Similar to what EVE used to have.Quote:

They're big on curving the complexity of the game, which Yoshi-P talks about a lot. The first 25 levels are about introducing players to systems and combat mechanics and keeping things simple. Starting shortly after Ifrit, things begin to get much more challenging.
Agreed with FATEs--they suck and are cut and pasted directly from GW2. Personally I think they need to do a better job with the scaling.
If you want to find the Majority of the original Off Topic members on that game you will find us all on Midgardsormr. So feel free to message me if you want my Character name so you can play with us! (:
I have come back from the dead to tell you all the the Official Server for Off Topic is Midgardsormr. All of us dead Regulars are on that server. Midnight, Shimo, Jack, Ryz, Obbie, and myself. Just message Malachi Draven in-game (once Early Access starts) and we'll invite you to the linkshell if you want.
And now that I've commented, this thread is going to be deleted :/
Long time no see Mal /
i have...i love the way they did the battle system, plus with fates and all, if youre too high a lvl you can synch and still get some of the rewards lol...i was on midgarsormr, most of my friends are on that 1
Hi Chris It was fun wasn't it ;p
hey beautiful...yeah it was...i was gonna do another quest but the darn servers went down yesterday at about 11 am and theyre still down...have the game bought and ready for early access...i love how easy it is to use my ps3 controller, very intuitive, wish they made it like that with ffxi lol
ah i hope so, wish they implemented a party chat or something, would love to be able to chat with all of you via a mic...ive got a southern draw, but its not redneck or anything lol, people say i sound like im from new york or something, but thats just because im 1/2 italian and 1/4 irish lol
I am an ole southern belle myself so I know how those southern drawls can work ;p The guys have been using mumble and a few skype to chat. I am not sure if there will ever be a good party chat system. could only hope.
yeah i figured enix would do something like that since its an mmorpg, gotta have some kinda mic chat system, ya gotta lol...i think it would be awesome to chat with you, jack and shimo...i know i have clown, and jack on my friends list on ps3, guess i can everyone else in game later lol
hugggs doll!
So far it seems fun enough. Soloing, it get's incredibly old.
I guess FFXIV is gonna be the game that forces me to be social.
Damn it.
eh, not really...i solo'ed the whole time i was in the open beta and it was still pretty fun, the only time i actually had to be in a group was when i had to do the dungeon instance " they must be pirates " and even then i had to wait for almost a half hr in the queue lol...im sure theyll make it a bit harder for soloists and all...remember they made it really easy for defiance in theyre beta phase?...then when they launched it they took away the vot plasma pulser smg's and some other stuff, so who knows...i do know that once you get passed lvl 20-25 they said the difficulty is gonna jump up, so i cant wait, hopefully ill run into ya and maybe party up lol
Still deciding which server i want to roll on lol
Hell yeah, myself a bunch of other Defiance players are moving over to FFXIV. Been playing since the start of Phase 3. LOVE the game to death and cannot wait for Early Access.
All of you planning on Playing FF14 ARR head over to this site. You will find a bunch of us teaming up to play the game together. http://www.typhonicbeast.com/home
Defiance servers are working!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The main lot of Off-topic before the before, the fall of the off-topic subsides there...http://www.typhonicbeast.com/home
Really excited to get to play with you guys once I get some duct tape and paper clips.
Like Mal and ShiMo said, all the Off-Topic posters that don't/didn't suck are on Midgardsormr.
Well from launch the NA servers were full so i went with Phoenix (EU) and thus far it has been great.
Sort of on the same note not sure if am i missing something here but i wanted to post on the Realm Reborn forum but it would seem you need a security token to access the forum? It is $10.99 or something, great game but really charging users to use a forum, what gives
Not very helpful at all for newbies to the game like myself
Aaron Rivers on Gilgamesh if anyone wants to play.
Good luck pulling me off Diablo 3, but you're welcome to give it a shot!
