Defiance is dead to me now!
I have been battling through the extraordinarily long patches for this game, the disconnects, incredible lag times so severe you can't reload a weapon or even pick up ammo. Today, the game died for me. After another hour long patch, my characters were black at the character screen. I thought...maybe they did that on purpose, but it's weird....Then I log in and I find a graphical nightmare. Far beyond any game I have ever played, this beats them all in crap-tasticness. I have with extreme sadness finally come to realize that this game will not make it to season 2. There is no way to save it from itself. It seems intent on destroying itself.

But, I have hope as I think I can log out, go back to the xbox desktop, and try starting it up again. Maybe, just maybe there's a part of a patch that didn't download correctly...

And then, Hope is crushed altogether as the only option available to me is to install the entire game once more. This will not happen ever again to me. The game has died. I sadly remove the disc from the tray and place it reverently in its case. I will be strong though, and not shed any tears. Tomorrow at first light, I will bury it, and all memories that go with it. I will move on with my life, but Defiance will not be part of it.

I never got to experience alpha but by watching allot of the videos it SEEMED like it was shaping up to be a really fantastic game and thats why i hopped on board to grab it. But it seems like they ether took allot of stuff out or just didn't work with it enough to iron the bugs out to capture a very solid playerbase in time for the show.

Wow.. and I thought I was a dedicated gamer.. but I've never given a game CD a proper funeral before. Amazing however.. that the DLC was PRE-TESTED, and CERTIFIED, by Xbox.. yet it launches and everyone has problems. Hmm.. is that a problem with Trion letting you down, or does it fall on the geeks at Xbox who said the patch was good to go? I dunno.. but I'm thinking you'd be better off dumping that netflix-mambo-kinect-garbage-box for a REAL computer, where the only glitches you find are the PEOPLE! LOL

If you've had any experience with ANY MMO type game, you'd know that it's probably best to just not touch the game when a bit content update comes out. There's usually a lot of problems that show up.
This happens even with big MMOs like WoW. It's just the fun of programming.

YOU try and go through four million lines of basic to make sure there's no errors and something doesn't horribly go wrong like Evil Lincoln or Evil Atilla the Hun show up in your space canoe!

Buying real computer wont save this game from itself though. Thats the only problem

What happened was there was TONS of issues about the game during prelaunch Alpha, but we were given the impression over and over that these things for the most part would be cleaned up by launch(perse... still many were skeptical then too).

Launch came and the issues just kept compounding, then the first DLC was to be delayed from its week after launch date.....

and it just cascaded from there.

All in all, the carrot(potential) was just dangled before our cart.

Hamsters in the q/a wheels of Seattle tend to only cursory check to make sure it doesnt muck the xbox more than be a dud game patch/content update. The fault lies primarily with Trion on this.

Once you remove that disk and have a few days of withdrawal while you get used to games that work again and play when you turn them on. You very quickly are just glad you did it. I even put the case today after reading these posts on top of the cabinet to go return for the probably
$2 it will get like a 3 year old game.

I wouldn't even call this a DLC. This content pales in comparison to things like what Bethesda and other game companies have done with DLC and that is just an insult. Just not enough meat period. Im really sad if there DLCs are going to continue to be this shallow and bug riddled. Hell even there first game Rift seemed to have a more SOLID DLC content lineup than this.

I hate to say it, but I love this. The game has gone to you-know-where in a handbasket, but now the forums are the most entertaining thing on the internet.

I wouldn't even let myself get excited about DLC today, because I knew it wouldn't happen. I think it's time to hang this one up and wait for the weekend to see if they put humpty-dumpty together again.

There are plenty of games that had DLC that amounted to just an outfit or two or some gun cache etc, including Bethesda.

Down Loadable content can be construed as anything. Rift did an Expansion(storm legion) and just had content updates before that which were free during their subscription model system, but yes, certainly meatier than this.

At play with this DLC for Defiance is as well:

    1. That some features they'd originally baited folks on were not implemented.
    2. That they delayed over 4 times the delivery of -this- resulting content from the initial intended second week of April publication of it.

I knew it was going to come down as it has today(actually its been more interesting than some what anticipated and showing me there is more and much worse to come.

As for humpty dumpty, such would imply Defiance was at one point a whole and healthy egg of a fellow.

I like to think this was more or less along the lines of a 5th grade science project, never turned in that received a failing grade, that your mother opens the tupperware container of it 4+ months later and has to be rushed to the hospital by men in hazmat suits.

Alas no whimsical nursery rhymes that fit that.

Just wait Texas, then the rest of the marketing team (who need's pr when you do not plan to deliver on further content), end of year approaching new gen good excuse to close servers and state you are developing for nee consoles and cutting costs to deliver ont hat great content from last year.

I thin you should keep koolaid behind the bar for the forum member who drink it heavily. They will buy such large amounts and with so little thought some of them it could match the disappointed beer sales.

The problem with Defiance is GREED. The "top men" - meaning the Trion CEO/Owner/Board of Directors or whatever greed-fueled body is the party responsible for not FUNDING the game, not hiring enough help, not purchasing quality or enough servers, and living in some kind of cash cow fantasy land. The good news, for me, is that this person or persons will eventually lose it all. Clearly, Trion is among the worst-managed companies ever and can't last. Way to run it into the ground, guys.

Gonna be very blunt. Greed was/is secondary to the arrogance that I believe led to much of this and to a certain level still. That and the tambourine jangling mantras of positivity they try to pipe through the ventilation and sound systems there :P

But more seriously though, some glassdoor reviews by former employers at the San Diego branch spoke to the problems of coding on an engine just not meant for this type of game and the ignoring of that by middle/upper management.

I am a Bethesda fan boy. So in an effort to "lessen" that bit of derp from them, I present this list and would like to point out that horse armor was only number tenth of the list: http://www.cracked.com/blog/the-10-m...rged-money-for

Haha you are ridiculous, absolutely insane words here. There should never be ANYTHING debilitating to the general performance of the game in ANY content release, they should be properly tested and come out virtually bug free except minor issues that people will be happy to go "I found this." instead of "You know what, I'm buggin out, see ya"

At least it was well done and didn't break the game. Plus one small not great dlc doesn't mean **** when you look at the whole of their dlc content. One of the best companies when it comes to expanding their games
