Final fantasy xiv

I can't wait to play an actual MMO on the ps, with a development studio actually concentrating on it. i had fun getting to ego 2389, but the writing was on the wall when trion closed the development studio. at this point, they are just trying to keep making money off defiance as long as possible while they are developing new MMOs. anyone that says they don't want to pay a subscription cost should try FF for the free month and see what kind of game you are getting . the fact that no devs have commented in any of the hundred threads started the last couple days should tell you all you need to know about trion's commitment to defiance .FINAL FANTASY IN 3 DAYS !!!!!!!!!!

Keep in mind that FFXIV was pretty much unplayable when it first launched...in 2010. Squeenix just has much deeper pockets than Trion and it's FF so they can't afford to fail.

Lmao yea they got deep pockets but make some ok games. I played XI for 3 years was great, tired xiv when it 1st came out i don't know about the errors was much more of terrible grind fest and after you hit lvl 20 really sucked and all I seen them do was add some new fate system to it i didnt care to much for the guild leves.

I'm so pumped for FFXIV. Played the beta and really enjoyed it.

In truth, I am only still playing this game to pass the time until FFXIV. I planned to stick with this game after I the release, but if they can't even keep their servers working for a full 24 hours, then I will stick with a game that does work.

FFXIV, Def buying it.

Don't go forever. You won't get the same bang, bang, shoot, shoot from FF. ^_^

Well, for the last week, I have barely gotten any bang, bang, shoot, shoot from Defiance. So, not really much difference. Oh, and it appears the NA PS3 servers are down...again. More "connection timed out" errors for me? Yay! :mad:

Thanks, but already have an FC that I joined during the beta. The website looks nice, though.

I played Beta 3 on PS3 , the game has a great style, it is beautiful and the ST is awesome, I really enjoyed once I got to LV 12 to wander through the world in order to meet a friend who had chosen a different character and began in another area.

There is one major letdown though, there is no ingame voicechat, people on PC can use TS but PS3 has nothing like that. I hate typing when playing, so this sucks.

Decided to keep on playing Defiance instead, starting with a new char on the NA server ..

they still seem to have some technical issues, shutdown of EU servers this afternoon and error 9000 during open beta last week..

They're having a lot of problems moving people in/out of instanced areas, but other than that, no problems so far. The 1-2 hour downtimes to try to the fix the problem are good for power-naps.

not having any problems with the game apart from forcing myself to take a break from the game .ha - got to say the monthly sub (which is not that much imo) is well worth it if it continues to provide the quantity and quality of gameplay.

So does Defiance, only difference is defiance has been out for almost 5 months, FFXIV has been out about 5 days.
And even from a technical standpoint, is WAY better & smoother than Defiance.

Well just got the game today but what gives
All of the NA servers are full so it chose a EU server for me and I have been stuck on the character creation screen.
I guess I will try back another day :(

actually the original FF XIV launched in 2010 if I´m not wrong, it did so badly then that SE didn´t charge a monthly fee for almost a year. A friend of mine has preordered it and got the early access code.

Yesterday she told me this :


"Logged in early afternoon so I can play 3 hours later due to waiting queue, went to bed got some sleep, checked in later, could log in after about 10 minutes, extremely laggy almost unplayable, kicked - error 9000, logged in again, waiting queue - got into the game 20 minutes later, got kicked again error 107.. something, ´tried log in for about 20 times, finally it worked , extremely laggy again, 2 minutes to open up menu, 3 minutes to loot stuff from a tree (she is playing gardener) , was able to play for about 20 minutes, got kicked again , error 9000."

that was it, she likes the game though , but as it is in the moment she can´t play it, cause it fails to meet the most basic demands for a came .. the playability.

She keeps up the preorder, as it was too late to chancel it anyway, she had also ordered 2 month extra playtime, which she is going to redeem when SE has fixed it.

She is pissed no end..

Then know that she is in the minority.
The servers are totally packed right now, you have to spam login for 20 minutes to get into your world.

Doesn't really sound like a game that is unplayable to me. Only difference is, whereas defiance is server crashes, FFXIV is just to damn popular to get in right now.

EDIT: Admittedly, the only real issue we seem to be having is the Duty Finder. Seems to only be working half the time.

I assume you´re playing on an american server, she is on an EU server. she said that she wouldn´t mind waiting for half an hour or so due to the login restrictions , if she could play then, but she was either kicked after some minutes or it lagged terribly. I do think that the problem is not her internet connection, we both played during the beta phase 3 on PS3 and never had any problems there . I actually told her that beta FF feels far less beta than defiance, it ran really smoothly.



It´s a good sign nevertheless for SE that so many people like their game , and hopefully can play it without any major problems in the near future.

one question : once you are in the game can you play it without problems ? cause I think that would make her hope for the better ..

i plan to grab this game later today. never played any final fantasy game before but i have watched some videos of gameplay on youtube and it does look impressive, just looks really confusing so will take some time to get used to it i guess. hopefully its fairly easy to learn how to play.

Ahh yes i almost forgot about that. That is another major problem with the game right now. SE didn't account for how popular the game would be in NA, our world servers are filled to the brim. Currently, no new created characters are allowed to be created till further notice.

I think once she gets into a NA server, she will be very pleased.
That is certainly something SE messed up on, I'll admit.

@ OlafI never played any MMo apart from defiance, but I can tell you that the tutorial is neatly done and that you get into the game very easily. What had helped me a lot was an Interview or rather an introduction to the game done by the producers, I don´t know whether it is still available in the FF XIV forum, two things you have to keep your eye on, the map and your quests, with this they stated you will never get lost and will know what you have to do.

The getting used to the map took some time, but once learned it serves its purpose well.

I don´t know whether they have already implented the possibility to put markers on the map, because this was missing in the beta version, and not only myself would have found this really helpful.

I started with a *Waldläufer* holding bows and arrows (I like the distanced battle) , I have only played two weekends, but it was really fun, yet be prepared that the servers are comletely overloaded at the moment, at least the EU ones.

@ Arricane I think she has alread created a char on the NA server , in case not I will advise her to do so , once the restriction is lifted, thx

Waiting on reviews before I give it a shot. Defiance is the reason why I don't immedietly try it right now, call me...skeptical. From first impression vids I have seen, not sure I will like it since I have grown to not enjoy slow combat MMOs. GW2 gave me a taste of good action style combat and I liked it very much. ;)

The refresh is great. I played FFXI for close to 10 years with friends. Most of the jumped on FF14 when it first came out and were very disappointed. They are are telling me that ARR is great out of the box as most were playing the Beta and now the new release. I am going out to buy my PS3 copy today. I trust their feedback as they are all hardcore MMOers. The combat system is much better now. Hope to see you there!

Not really read up about this...can I be a healer? A real healer that people want to have around? Guess if reviews are favorable, I will have to check it out if so.

It's FF man, healers are a necessity in every exp party and end game group. Healer's are usually hard to come by on launch because everyone wants to smack things. I am going healer / support to begin for sure. Gets you parties quickly and ensure you find a good clan when you ready to do end game stuffs. Have fun!

thanks Amone. Im EU so what you were saying about it being popular seems correct... I was unable to find a copy ANYWHERE in my city, everyone was sold out.. Most of my friends list is now playing FF so I am definitely inclined to give it a good go, really hope I can get into it =) The subscription is it contracted? Asin you are bound to a 12month subscription, or can you cancel at any time should you not like the game? Havent been able to find much information on this topic.

There are different subs you can choose. I believe you can buy a 1 month, 3 month or 12 month.

@ olaf there is always Amazon :) and you can get a prepaid card there as well for extra play time, 1 month comes free with the game, but I just read that new players aren´t allowed access right now due to server restrictions SE put up cause they were hopelessly overloaded.

they even stopped selling the digital version of the game right now , but i think they are going to fix this asap .. hopefully...

Were would you find it out? I did all the registration and all that stuff but must have missed the page for the fee?
I was able to get on last night on a EU server and must say i am enjoying the game

Well i seen that it was 39.99 for the game but only realized afterwords from reading forums
that there is a monthly fee. First time i play any FF online last game i played was Final Fantasy 10 and i have XIII-2 but could not get into it.

Monthly fee means the game will not be anything like Defiance. New content regularly, servers will be stable, and patches won't break the game. SE got it right after FF14s fail.

Dang it, digital PC download sales still halted and there is not ONE single copy in a store any where in town. Conversely, I saw more Defiance boxes than I could count in the bargin bins.

Hope they open up digi sales soon, this game looks like exactly the sort of thing that will make me forget the taint known as Defiance.

I may do that however i must say i am still a newbie to FF Online games
This game will easily keep me busy until PS4 comes out and i sure hope we can transfer Characters over

You'll be happy to know that characters are account bound, not system bounded.

Meaning if one day, you're like "hmm i wanna play it on my PC" then simply have the game installed to your PC and click play. All your character from PS3 will be available as long is you sign in the same account.

my friend told me that she had been able to play without problems the last two days. obviously the people of SE know their job , she is ever so happy , the only thing that troubles me now is that she seems to suffer from an acute and severe form of loot fever ;)
