DLC2/Future of Defiance....A reason to level!
I'm a big fan of this game and have been from day one. I have been a supporter and have played a ton. I'm just really starting to figure out that after level 1600, there is no reason to level. ZERO. The ego points to unlock perks and upgrade perks isn't a big deal at all, because most of the one's you need will be unlocked by 2000.

The only thing that will save this game, listen closely Devs, is if they start fixing and adding things that this game REALLY needs. This game needs content that is unlocked as you level up. This gives players a reason to level, which keeps a players interest at a maximum because they are always working to unlock something new.

I like the Arkfalls and Sieges, but I feel a little ripped off that I waited 5 months for ONE new Arkfall and ONE new event(Sieges). That is NOT content. Those things are fun to do for a week or two, but then you burn yourself out because those 2 things WERE THE ONLY CONTENT YOU WERE GIVEN in the DLC. That's pathetic when you think about it. This isn't just some game like Call of Duty where you can get away with a mappack that adds a couple new maps. This is an MMO! MMO's require lots of leveling, with new content and new type of weapons ALWAYS unlocking as you level.

We should be leveling up to unlock those 4 or 5 new co-ops that you get for hitting a certain level. New co-ops should unlock every 300 levels or so. This would give every player that has ever played this game a reason to keep playing. Trion, you are losing your playerbase because you don't see what you're doing wrong. I know several Defiance die hards that quit the game because, and I quote from several different people pretty much the exact same words, "I quit because I got tired of doing the same things I've been doing for a couple thousand levels and the only thing I ever get is keycodes to buy lockboxes, because that's the only reason to play and grind. Leveling means nothing. I don't even need new guns because I have great guns now, but buying guns and mods is the only reason to even play. There is absolute zero reason to level up. NO unlockables".

Those are all things I've heard different people say. I finally am in agreement with them after several months of playing this game. I'm already bored of the DLC because it's the only thing we got, so everyone burns up the Sieges and Arkfalls for a week or two, then realize it's the same old crap over and over, with no reward for leveling up.

Trion, I hope you guys realize what you're missing, because you don't have much time left to correct it. Tons of unlockable content for leveling up is what this game needs. Imagine how a player would feel if he were about to hit level 2000 and unlock 3 new co-ops, 1 new arkfall, 1 new siege, and 1 new type of pistol/shotgun/AR etc. Hell I would be so excited to unlock new content, I would be buying bits for bonus loot, xp, skill....all of that. I would play the **** out of this game if I had content unlocking all the way to 5000. We need new areas on the map that unlock as you level up. Quit trying to coddle the new players by accessing ALL OF THE CONTENT to every single player. Give people a reason to play, and they WILL PLAY!!

5000 is pretty silly. 1000 or 2000 is where the lvling should have stopped.

Levels here aren't the same as in other games. It is more like a representation of how much of the game you have completed. There are some great explanations about why it's 5k if you do a quick google for Defiance Ego levels.

You can't grind to 5k w/ just kills and XP. You'll need to complete all the pursuits, level all your weapons and vehicles to 20, and unlock and max out all your perks.

    I agree.

I honestly don't see why people rushed to get to 5000 so fast. I got the game day 1 and I'm about to get to 2000 EGO.

I'm starting to get back into DCUO because there is just a lot more variety of things to do. There leveling system is also a lot better IMO.

I'm at EGO 1200, and just don't care to go any further. Closest weapon I have to level 20 is SMG at level 16.

All Perk slots are unlocked, all 4 EGO powers are maxed, the Perks that I care to slot are maxed, and all Co-ops were open since EGO 500.

EGO 5000 is just ridiculous. I abhor the Rampages, Hotshots, and Races. That's side game busy work, like grinding out all the FEATS for 100+ Skill Points in DCUO. Didn't do it there, won't do it here.

Unless the Devs had wanted to create real content (Rampages, Hotshots, and Races are not adequate content), screw EGO 5000. I'd rather get castrated by two bricks.

I agree with pretty much everything you say except the part about them losing the player base and how they don't have long to fix it. My friend, you don't have a clue about their player base or how long they have to fix things.

I've heard these same dire predictions about every multiplayer game I've ever played, they usually start about a week after the game is released and you'll still hear it years later as the game is still being played. It was said about ME3 about a week after launch and now, a year and a half later after all support was dropped months ago, it's still going strong.

By all means tell Trion what you think needs to be fixed, but stop telling them things that just makes you look like you're talking out of a smelly, dark orifice.

Yes 5000 is ridiculous. But if they are going to have that, then they need to add unlockable content as we level up. The only thing we get for leveling up is high ego weapons that nobody can use, so you're trade market gets smaller and becomes non-existant. I'm only level 2700 and I have zero reason to keep leveling.

If leveling in this game is a representation of how much of the game you have accomplished, then that is the dumbest thing this dev team could ever have done. People want a reason to level and keep playing. Playing the same exact **** over and over and over and over....is just flat out boring as hell. I have a great clan I"m a part of and they are the only reason I'm still playing. We think of things to do to make it more fun....it says a crapload about the developers that we have to make up stuff because the content is so lacking.

Leveling in any game like this should mean always getting better, always unlocking new content(even hard modes for co-ops, arkfalls, sieges that a clan could instance into). I have 13 friends of mine that used to play this game and loved it....for awhile. 4 of those guys on xbox, and the other 9 on ps3. They have all quit because of the absence of any reason to keep leveling, and doing the same **** over and over. They were all disgusted with the DLC and quit between 1 week and 2 weeks after the DLC. Why? Because of 1 siege and 1 arkfall. I'm still trying to support this game but it's becoming hard. This will be the first game in my life that I loved, but the developers and creative team killed it. This game has so much potential, but the dev team doesn't seem to get what everybody is saying. We need CONTENT...lots and lots of content. Unlockable content.

Not to mention that I hope they are changing the looks of those new arkfalls, because those ships were absolutely cheap and dumb looking on the outside and the inside. I'm just starting to wonder if they are giving up on this game and just shoveling crap to us now.

Evolution, it doesnt matter if leveling in this game is dependent on how much you've accomplished. Nobody wants to do the same crap over and over just to get to 5000, especially when 5000 means absolutely NOTHING. Thats a whole different conversation. They can stick to that plan and STILL have unlockable content. The horrible lack of content is why it's dying as we speak. I'm noticing it's like a ghost town on ps3 since the DLC. People are done with being promised a Shelby Mustang, but then given a Ford Escort instead. If we would have had hard mode co-ops, a real co-operative horde mode, 3 new Sieges, 3 new Arfalls, this game would be booming right now, if they fix the servers too. lol

I just wish I could get to 5000 with XP. I do agree there is no reason to level that high and it really does hurt trading since you can only get that high grinding pursuits.

LOL..all you have to do is look around the game world. I remember the days, months ago when I would be at an emergency with 4 other people every day, just random people...and now it's like a ghost town in most places. On PS3 at least, there's usually mostly clan mates at arkfalls, with a few purple dots running around.

Just 3 weeks ago, there were always tons, and I mean tons of people at arkfalls. There were so many people at arkfalls most times, it was hard to get a bullet into something before it died. Now there are very few dots on the hud compared to then.

How can you say I don't know **** about their player base when the game is now 10 dollars on the computer and I believe 20 for xbox and ps3....this is just months after launch!! That says a ****load about their playerbase. Are you not comprehending that bro? What's happening all around you is proof enough. I'm just one guy and I know tons of people that quit....and all of them have said they have friends that quit. The proof is in the pudding buddy. This game doesn't have much time left to have a big player base. The drop in price I'm sure has a little something to do with them not making as much money on bits anymore. I didn't say this game would go away completely, but there are lots of people still playing right now that are reaching the end of their ropes with this dev team and this game.

That was the worst part about getting to 5000 is that I was forced to grind out for the rest which became extremely tedious. I did find it weird that you stop gaining exp at certain point making any activity in the game pointless to finish.

I'm done with this game until the next DLC. This game has gotten to a point where it's a chore to play it. Trion ****ed with the drop rates on the oranges. I used to be getting at least one a day, now it's like two a week if I grind religiously for key codes.

PvP pursuits infuriate me to the point where I want to break my game. Destroy 25 vehicles in shadow war? Nobody stays in them long enough and vehicles don't count if you ram them with yours.

My only goal in this game is to get the ark predator suit, but if I have to raise my blood pressure every day to get it, then to ****ing hell with it.

There is no progression. The model is quite flawed. They have made the game a series of very obvious hamster grinds... and all they are adding is a new colour for the hamster wheel.

I agree with you, except the part about oranges. I have gotten oranges more recently than I ever have and I have friends that have gotten pretty good orange drops too. It's all luck bro. I went 2300 levels only getting one orange, but in the next 400 levels, I got 4 more oranges. They didn't touch the drop rate. If you were ever getting an orange per day, which I highly doubt(don't believe that for a second actually) then you were just very very lucky.

If you are judging the size of the player base by the US Price point, how do you explain the EU price point? Here, the Standard version sells for 19.99 € on PC, PS3, and XBox. The Digital Deluxe edition sells for 34.99 € on PC. So, we've seen a much smaller price reduction in Europe than in the US. One euro = 1.32 USD, 19.99 EUR = 26.4282 USD

So, using your concept that player base size correlates to game price, do you think the EU player base is 2.6 times larger than the US base? Nope, it just cost more over here.

I think you are correct but you should add the commas to the EU prices, somebody might think we have to pay about two thousand Euros for the game :D

There are many reasons to progress until ego 5000:
-better shields and grenades at high ego
-more hit points at high ego (just a light increase, ok, but it counts when u play in pvp)
-I don't think u could unlock ALL the build loads at ego 1600...i'm ego 4400 and i have just finished my "full explosive" load yesterday...
-and u need at least ego 4000 to unlock all pursuits...

Ok that's a few content and i'm ok with u, this game need more content (pve and pvp, hmmmm especially pvp ^^)

people cried about having to hit 4k for all perk slots. they got it now still unhappy. lesson is dont F the play value of a game over cry babies. only point of being 5k is all mod slots open which really dont matter and best shlds n nades. small plus for hard grind

btw if ur 5k test ur lower lvl buddies hp value by reviving him. its such a small reward

LOL, I was debating if I should put in the commas so the Europeans would get it or the decimal points so the Americans would get it and, somehow didn't use EITHER.

My main problem is the lack of true content story etc especially since all the episode missions have been removed are we meant to wait till season 2 of the show before we see anything apart from instanced arkfalls which if its going to be the biggest drawcard of dlc2 having watched the pax im not mighty impressed

Once I got defiance at start. I stopped playing dcuo. Just read all the hype on new dlc on dcuo and have renewed my legendary sub today. There is so much potential in this game but nothing to keep you grinding for.

Yeah it is a lot of grinding to get there to be sure, but it is a bit more of something to do than to go for the millionth Prestige level in a game by doing nothing new.

Where I am is at 4700. I have a couple new pursuits to finish from the DLC but beyond that, it's all about weapon leveling. This means I must use different weapons that maybe I don't normally prefer to use. But some other games don't even have that sort of carrot and stick approach. A lot of games just require you to repeat play over and over again to reach full rank.

The things people don't realize about getting to higher levels is the potential for better bonuses for weapons is better, weapons have all mod slots open (ok they're cheap to open now, but still I'd rather use the salvage for turrets at sieges), shields have higher damage ratings, grenades have higher damage ratings, and you get the special 5000 club decoder ring and key to the clubhouse.

No game I've ever played had a really good incentive for reaching the top of the top, except being able to say you did it. Rewards are not always external or significant.

    Here's my 2 cents:

With the way the current system of leveling works, and with the lateral game leveling so we can all play together regardless of level, there's really only one "carrot" you've mentioned that'll work: new co-ops at certain levels.

Now see, it WAS like that before, but they only had a few of them, and everyone complained. So they changed it, and you now open them up much earlier. I'd personally like to see some "mega co-ops" for level 1000, 2000, 3000, and 4000.. something HUGE with a 16 person instance and a mega boss at the end with a really killer loot table. Something like this would be worth it for a carrot, the only problem is that people would flat out farm the crap out of it, which isn't the point of a co-op mission. I'd suggest making it so that you had to finish several side missions before being able to enter the same mega co-op again, which would be random side missions from the ones we've already done, and new ones that the dev's would create. THis would provide for some great "carrots", a bit of buffer so they can't be exploited for the enhanced loot table, and a bit of rehash of the side missions that all of us though where pretty cool and complain that we can't re-do. Plus it would lessen the amount of side stuff that the dev's would have to put out with the meat and potatoes.

Otherwise OP, what your asking for is essentially turning this game into an MMORPG. As an MMORPG player, what your asking for sounds just like what we've seen in every trinity based game for the last 15 years or so. It's the RPG STANDARD.. but has nothing to do with shooters. While I wholeheartedly agree with you that Defiance is sorely lacking in content and replay ability, I think that to keep Defiance as it's own entity and design direction, our suggestions must keep those two things in mind, and provide positive suggestions that the Devs *COULD* (if they ever read the forums that is) use to make the game better in the long run.

Trion's loot tables for this game are thoroughly f***ed as far as I'm concerned.

You have every right to feel what you feel but funny thing is oranges are now far easier to get FOR ME. I get them at Dark Matter arkfalls and T4 boxes. I get keycodes fairly easily too and I don't tag arkfalls-I see them through to the end, even if it ends up at a minor that I get no keycodes.

There are also new weapons to try and believe me, there is one new weapon(not the Volge gun or the charge blade) that is woefully underestimated and can drop a Volge fairly easily. And it's not orange.

If Trion did frack with orange "drop" rates it was to increase the frequency of them (rewards and lockboxes), FOR ME and for others I have talked to as well.

They upped the chance of them for T4 lockboxes-stick with those exclusively. They are not drops for anything but are often rewards for Dark Matter Arkfalls-major arkfalls. I'd do as many of these as you can find. It helps to have friends in different phases that you can go to if one drops.

Lag can ruin this plan but having friends in a DM arkfall's phase can help. If you don't have any already friends and are on xbox, I have a way to help if you get lagged out. Otherwise, you might find someone at an arkfall and see if you can become temporary friends. I'd try and ask if you can-or you could just try and make a request and see what happens. That way you can get back if lagged out and make sure to get your rewards at least.

It might be they could do or will do something like this for DLC2 with on demand arkfalls. They are sort of coops where you enter the ship, so one suggestion could be that we have the ability to filter aspects of the event. Arsenic_Touch wanted to be able to have instances open to clan members only, but maybe there could be other ways to filter it. And maybe difficulty could scale with it--if you have an idea regarding this then maybe it's worthy as part of a suggestion for leveled up coops as well.

    Well, no.
They're adding lowered weapon stats to pillowfight the bugs and Volge with.
And the Volge drop white weapons (when the drop any) that are just a voucher for Scrip/Ark Salvage that we get to click a constantly reshuffling inventory to find so we can use that new salvage button on.

    Whoo-ho.

100 percent agreement. Games getting boring and Im back playing a 5 year old game.

I'm starting to get back into DCUO because there is just a lot more variety of things to do. There leveling system is also a lot better IMO.

That game is more fun in every way and a far superior console MMO. This game let me down for so many reasons... Not worth playing anymore with so much better things to play.

Being able to find a match does not constitute as "going strong". There are games over a decade old that you can still find people playing online. And while the doomsayers do crop up on every game forum, they have some legitimacy here. It's clear that this game's player base has drastically decreased in the short months that it has been out, along with it's price tag. Normally that wouldn't even matter, but in this type of genre, developer's depend on continued support to keep afloat and profitable.

Why they won't tell us this game's activity numbers isn't surprising, but to anyone with a bit of common sense you know it has to be low. Other devs will gladly share that information or have in game features to show the current number of unique users that are logged in.

As for the whole "features and fixes that are coming soon", sometimes it's too little, too late. And I'd bet you everything that I own, my whole pile of dirt, that Trion will end up declaring bankruptcy. I've seen it happen countless times before to much better companies who had much better outlines for a successful product.

The whole design of the 'leveling' system here is stupid imo. Cap is 5k, yet it really isn't. What is normally 'Acheivements' in all other games is tied with the leveling system as well.

I have reached PvE cap at just over 4.8k....if I want to go higher, I have to PvP. No thank you, PvP here stinks.

The entire system needs a revamp and major changes, but alas that will never happen. We are stuck with it since any changes requires money to be invested and I know for certain that will NEVER happen. This game is a loss to them, you don't throw money at loses.

Think of EGO levels as Achievement points.
You get some titles and fluff items for doing certain achievements, and it's mostly for epeen/showing off, but in the end it really means nothing.

Now that they changed the unlock levels of perk slots to 2k, it really is best to just view them as Achievement points.

I know you get higher damage grenades and higher damage shields, but is that content? No..it's just a few more damage points, which in PVE, means pretty much nothing. This game needs content to unlock for leveling. They could keep the game the same wayit is now, but add in arkfalls, sieges, and co-ops that unlock as you level up. The best reward for leveling in any game is more content, new maps, new areas. They could make all of the unlockable content instanced so groups and clans could do them together as long as they have each unlocked it. That would be great! A few more damage points on shields and grenades isn't keeping people playing.

Someone said you get better bonuses on weapons as you level...NO you don't actually. At 1600, you get an extra bonus on greens, blues, purples, and oranges....but that is it. After that, the only thing that changes about bonuses is the weapon mastery bonus, and that goes by rarity of the gun..not level.

Unlockable content would elevate this game and draw people back in. I know about 13 people that have quit this game, and every one of them said they would be back if there were unlockable arkfalls, sieges, and co-ops that unlocked every few hundred levels. Anyone on this site can debate this with me all they want, but those same people know damn good and well that if we had unlockable content every few hundred level, they would ALSO be more pumped and excited to play. Thats just gaming. We want more content because old stuff gets boring....especially when there was very little to begin with.

Don't get me wrong, I still play the game and I still enjoy it(though not near as much as I used to). My only worry is that lots of people are quitting and it's very noticeable in game. The devs think new content is 1 arfkall and 1 siege..and that's the problem right now. We need tons more content. People have been asking for hard mode co-ops since the first week of launch, which should be very easy to do, but the devs have been more worried about a stupid new race to play with or a crappy vehicle. They don't listen to the community at all and it's going to bite them in the ***.

Wrong, goals = more ego. Higher ego = better shields/grenades and more stat rolls/higher tiers of stats on weapons (three levels).

A 5k player has large advantage over a 1ker due to better equipment. We are talking 1k+ more shield capacity in some cases.

Tying Achievements and leveling into one system is either a really stupid decision or it's simply what I think it is: a cheap way out to save dev $$.

    Large advantage? Hardly.

So having 2x the shields of a lower ego player is not large? Or having more sub stats on items? A low ego respark regenerator has 25% life regen...a high ego version is 75%. These are large differences dude.

And yet, that means absolutely nothing unless the two are fighting each other in PvP.

At near EGO 1200, there is not a mission or Co-Op map that I have broken a digital sweat to complete. So, again, for non-PvP'ers, there's no point to a high EGO.

I'm level 4300 and something I have 99/105 pursuits done but my weapon levels are low except ars 20 sawed offs 18 bmg infector semi autos 10 pistols 8 smgs 7 everything else is 5 or lower

It's not hard to level up I don't know why gamers need everything handed to them play the game as its meant to be played mmos are about grinding so grind your pursuits and grind your weapons skills and stop whining about it.

In the form of dlc yes it was crap but oh well if you honestly think about there are 5 arenas and 1 mission with the new vendor that we paid for that comes to 2 dollars an arena I got more than that worth of gameplay in it. The free stuff is cool and fun to do but your do get burnt out rather quickly. But it's the first dlc so just chill out.

I am by no means defending the company either because the amount of lag when they fix something is ridiculous but I will return eventually.

    For me:
    - Add more perks for ppl who complain about Ego level is useless.
    - Instead of nerf-ing weapons => add more weapon variants/custom/mod.
    - More outfits/headgear instead of recoloring. Coloring or dyeing (outfit/wep) should be a game function for player to experience.
    - Contents => new maps/missions/pursuit/enemies, not just Arkfall all the time, you guys are already doing good at this (especially the new instances Arkfall in DLC2).
    - Fix chat system/ known bugs (ppl reported)

I think Greg posted a official suggestions thread for ppl to contribute, instead of argueing/complaining, we can just contribute to that thread (there, your ideas might be noticed, here, well, goodluck).
