Fans do not get input in shows for one reason - their ideas kind of suck.

Leave the shows to the people who know how to make them.

From what I understand, the actual person will not be in the show. Just the players avatar, who will most likely be played by an actor.

Nobodys character will look right because no outfits in game fit in with what you see on the show. Cant wait to see how they fit in goofy power armor. Of course they wont, instead it will be someone with the same hair color who looks absolutely nothing remotely like the character.

As someone already mentioned, its just the in game stuff not the actual person that will be on the show.

It is also important to point out that the backstories of the characters were written by the SyFy folks for those players who made it to round 2 of the contest. In the last round the SyFy made the choice as to who "won", meaning that in one very easy way of looking at the whole "contest" that SyFy already knew what they were looking for to slip in for the show. So, the -only- thing a player was actually able to have a say in was the name and race of the character. SyFy did all the rest.

In other words, players were given the illusion of input when really they had none.

While the esteemed owner of supposed "wiki" may feel that "fans ideas suck", I would counter that the contest more likely was drawn up in this manner to give free and clear control to SyFy in the event of any creativity or legal issues while, as I mentioned, giving the belief to fans that they had more input in the contest than they actually did.

Player intervention in MMO's are done thusfar in multiple choice form. No matter what choices you would choose, you would always be restricted by the writing of the creator. It's no excuse for selling "giving you the chance to change the show". That's just lazy storywriting on the creator's part.

And I don't mean small dialog multiple choice options like one game does, I mean a large storyarc with at the end of each of thusfar 3 storyarcs a choice that influences the plot.

Being said that, it does gives options for cross content in ways that can let players influence the storyline of either game or show. That's something I wanted to ask in the Livestream as well. The only MMOs that do however are RPG heavy MMO's though. Defiance isnt that yet.

Aside that fact, theres also a pretty long thread about the question if the backstory was already prepared in advance by the writers of the show, which makes this contest just about a player name tag being used in the show, which really isn't a "change" for me.

Cmon, let it go, not here, not now.. Well derail just like in the other thread.

Shows and movies can be influenced by the feeling or opinion of audience also. If a certain direction doesn't land well with the public, there's a chance it could be reconsidered.

Aww, but it is so very entertaining. And we'd hate for the rest of the general public to miss out on all the fun we've been having in PMs.

Besides, I'm finding it harder and harder not to change my sig to "Enhance your Defiance experience by staying away from the Defiance wiki!"

    Ahem... :o

As to the topic, was it ever actually confirmed that this was a real player? There was some accusations thrown around that this could have been rigged with a "plant", and, as far as I know, no one ever came forward and said "Yes I know that person and played with them in-game."...

Not that I particularly care either way at this point, but it is an interesting case of events.

You must be playing a special version of the game. There are plenty of outfits that fit in with what is seen in the show including starter outfits like the survivalist default. You have to be willfully blind to this as it's all you see at Major Arkfalls.

    First post on these forums (though I've been lurking in the shadows for the past few days). I have 2 objectives;

    1. Sanguinesun, you're my favorite person here. Keep on kickin' *** and chewin' bubblegum.
    2. Xaerth, you mean like this?

Enhance your Defiance experience by avoiding The Defiance Wiki!
