Actually possible (sort of) since we are talking about an energy blade here... but we might see that particular 'frisbee' effect from one of the new Volge weapons (surely this new family includes more than the battle rifle - on which note, why is it called 'Battle Rifle Gun' ingame?
And speaking of fun with focused energy, I do wonder when we'll get to use the monitors' portable cover ourselves... and yes, it would have the same drawback (I kind of feel silly for only discovering recently that you can overload the things and cause explosive backlash). Heck, as long as we're here, might as well round out the Shkathe Nado aesthetic pack...
The other defensive application for focused-energy technology would be... well, an analogue of the 'point defense gauntlet' used by Kig-Yar ('Jackals') over in the various Halo games. While it would be tricky to implement in terms of what kind of equipment it would count as, the actual usage seems straightforward enough:
- monitor regalia (uniform and helmet);
- 'mini-APC' (the sorta van-like things often seen around bases, ambuses, etc.);
- buggy (less common, looks like it's on legs - Woga Base, I think, has one or two lying around);
- suggested change to all helmets - make each of them a 'two-for-one' purchase, including open and closed versions
And like the personal shield, the PDG would come in a variety of flavors; and because it can be used to bash enemies, it could also have the possibility of melee nano-effects.
- obviously only usable with one-handed weapons (pistols, SMGs, maybe sawed-off shotguns);
- brought up when you use fine-aim; visual zoom is reduced; any zoom scope on the pistol/SMG is ignored;
- the melee attack is, of course, a shield bash;
- in effect, a second shield, only effective against attacks from the forward arc
