As for the battle rifle, the volge box tier doesn't guarantee a drop of the same quality. Anyone who has played since May ought to have realized how lock boxes work by now. And yes, you can get a blue VBR next time you hit 40k.
The only difference between the purple and orange rifle is atm a 10% bonus to RoF. Yes, bonus, synergy and nano are fixed. There's been talk of making the properties random at some point, but right now there's only one version of each tier.
