Nothing wrong with the textures. It's a huge game, with lots of people, on three different platforms. Were you expecting Tomb Raider, Crysis 3, or some other System Resource sucking singe player game graphics?
The graphics are great for what we're playing. Look great on my system.
Yes textures are bad (bas as in = eww resolution). You notice it mostly in the cinematics but often in gameplay aswell (the ground, the walls.. my eyes! argh). You notice that this is a multi platform game. There can(!) be nice texture resolution in online games too. Lord of the Rings Online did it, the high rez textures are even up to this date nice, i think Rift did it better (the problem there was with ever repeating ground textures, mostly noticed in the distance with huge fields) and i could name other online examples with better textures as we have in Defiance.
It is of course still playable this way, but it is one of the few things that i would wish for.
Most likely not and i can live with the game as it is, hellbug, i still play Ultima Online on a Freeshard in the old classy 2D Engine hehe. I knew what i was getting into, still in this day and age many of us are spoiled with graphics (on a PC.. with some non-port games).
I would be more than willing to slip on the dunce cap if textures were more important to me than gameplay. However, I am an old old woman who remembers playing games with 8bit sprites and gleefully having fun.
So no, graphics aren't important to me and I don't remember ANYONE ever complaining about ME's graphics and I spent a lot of time on the Bioware forums.

I understand if graphics arent as important as gameplay for you. This isn't a thread about gameplay though, it exists to discus the specific topic of texture quality in the game.
And... I did? Except you didn't post a discussion or thought provoking argument. You complained and whined like a spoiled thirteen year old looking at this years selection of dogcrap brown and gunmetal grey bloom filled ironsight simulators.
Oh sorry, I meant "Modern Shooter".
The graphics seem fine for monsters and clothing. The facial textures are the fall off for me though.
Try taking the graphics off custom and put it on high.
I'm baffled. It sounds to me in essence that people will settle down with the most realistic graphics to date but with bad gameplay mechanics vs. low texture, dated graphics and superb gameplay.
As far as I remember, the greatest games of all time didn't have super duper high definition graphics. YEs, we already know that it was the best of the time, but these games STILL even top the charts of modern games with superb graphics.
If this game did have high end graphics would it not lag so much that the player base would just disappear?
People vanishing and appearing either means the server is overstressed or that the game is trying to cut down on graphical stresses by limiting how many people can be on screen at once. Some games show outlines of people, others show people in simple brown robes... (Aion and Vindictus).
looks fine to me, then again i worry more about gameplay than the graphics so im biased lol
I've already switched my settings to high.
In world it's not as noticable. The close ups on clothing are grainy and laughable during cut scenes.
The issue isn't really with the low rez textures, its more to do with the fact there's no post-processing to help blend the textures together. Use a driver-side or directx side post-processor and that issue goes away instantly.
True dat..
Using SweetFX atm and it's a nice change in atmosphere.
I hope they release a HD texture pack for PC however i'm more concerned with them increasing the draw distance, monsters & players in Arkfalls disappear and seemingly teleport when idiots in trucks push them.
I have thought about this before, in regards to The Elder Scrolls Online. Different texture resolution wont affect gameplay between two people as far as I know. Player A has textures at 512 Player B has textures at 2048. The tree will be in the same spot, the only difference would be system resources. *This is just a guess.* Anyways, imagine if a game allowed you to select your texture resolution prior to download. I think that would be awesome for TESO as well games like this. Defiance needs to run on consoles just like Skyrim need to run on consoles. However on PC gamer could select from 512, 2048 and 4k texture downloads.
I think you needed to compare to Aliens: Colonial Marines, ME3's textures were actually pretty decent haha...

People always blame it on someone elses computer, just because that person blaming it, doesn't actually 'NOTICE' the issue.
You have no way of knowing whether anything is wrong with someone elses computer unless you start using it. So don't make assumptions.
Some people spend big money on brand new computers to run games at the highest settings available and find themselves disappointed by the lack visuals. Sure the game looks good if you use something like SweetFX it makes it even better. Fact is, there are more than just one person that sees the textures seem low resolution. They are low resolution, however it's not just low resolution textures you're seeing. Just like another poster here noted. The post-processing is also an issue, which is why SweetFX was suggested before and is often suggested for many games that users experience things like this.
I am one of those people that spent big money on a very powerful setup, specifically to play games at or beyond the ultra settings that a game can run - and find it kind of lacking. Not everyone is playing on Consoles. It makes no sense to troll, or tell us that we are whining. We have a right to be concerned because we spent money on the game. The original screenshots that I saw before betas were even available for the game, and way before launch - looked much better than we are able to see now. With that said, it makes me believe that at some point they'll provide more options in the Video settings, at least for PC if not for all. It's obvious to me that the game is capable of looking better, it just doesn't right now.
So I'll wait and see and in the mean time I'll use SweetFX and if they eventually decide that they don't want us using it, hopefully they add more options for Video settings. Because they're going to step on a lot of folks toes. You may not believe the same as me, or some others - regardless - we have a right to believe the way we want to and if you don't like it, there is nothing you can do about it - absolutely nothing. So with that said. Be respectful, don't insult people, because you know you wouldn't want to be insulted. It's pointless anyway, it solves nothing.
multiplatform, the bane of pc players aka the master race ;)
Actually the texture work is pretty good if you throw some sweetFX in the mix. Works wonderous for sharpening the textures and putting some color in the otherwise washed out world.
