If they new about the glitch in the vendor's and did not tell the community, but took steps to block people in the community from sharing the info/asking about it/attempting to look the other way as if it does not exist, this to me is entrapment.
A few things should have been done:
#1 - Post a sticky on the forums informing people about the vendor issue and ask that people do not exploit it. Make it clear that those who do exploit it will be banned and their scrip removed.
#2 - On the live streams make mention of this issue at least once an hour.
#3 - On the log in to the game screen add a note about the issue same as the suggested sticky.
There is no excuse at that point for players to not have seen at some point the issue and be warned.
This is another major failure of the CM staff to effectively communicate with the community and as a result there may have been people who did not exploit intentionally, selling one or two items not even aware of the exploit, who got roped up in the punishments.
They knowingly suppressed information about a known exploit, didn't tell anyone, and then started spanking them after the fact. While I agree an exploit is an exploit, this seems like something that should have been caught in the test server and fixed before it ever made it out beyond that. Really what does this harm? There is no in game economy. That can only exist with crafting and auction houses. The only people that really use scrip are the PVP players and weapons traders and really who cares about them? Let them pew pew in PvP, it has no bearing on the game economy. This likely would have been a boon for the game as people would share their new wealth with clan mates to buy more mods and what not.
I just have to shake my head. I am starting to really have a hard time supporting Defiance anymore, not because of the game, the game is great. But the community is being snuffed out by poor management. K-TAM only exists because of the community and Trion doesn't like so much negativity. Stop making people negative! I can't be an apologist for you anymore. i can't keep looking on the bright side and the What If and defending you.
I get it we wont get an interview with anyone from Trion anymore. We have bigger fish on the line already. But I would really re-think that position. Right now the community wants and need answers. I think you need more AMA's out side of the twitch streams. You need to get on K-TAM and Defiance Reporter and anyone else who is left that is still trying to support this game and let the community have at you. Take your lumps and be honest and you just might earn back some of the respect and trust that has been lost these past months. The community that participates might surprise you and you might find you have some passionate supporters who have invested heavily in this project and who just want to know how they can help.
Ball is in Trions court. Soon though, there will not be enough people around to field a team.
