I miss Betamax it was so superior to VHS, but VHS was way more popular... Is Defiance on VHS gonna be 4:3 with stereo sound quality?

As long as I can get it on laserdisc.
In fact, that's exactly why PS3s have a built-in blue-ray player. Sony lost the Betamax/VHS format fight, so they leveraged their presence in the gaming market to boost the number of blue-ray players in households to make sure that they won the hd-dvd/blue-ray format fight.
In the process, they increased the cost of PS3s, making it easier for competitors to gain market share in the gaming console market, but they did eventually win the format battle. Of course, in the meantime, Netflix came along and drove the final stake into the home rental market that would have bought all those blue-ray disks, so it was something of a Pyrrhic victory. Wah wah.
Yes, Microsoft chose the Hd side, and lost. But now Xbox has because an entertainment console, not just a game console. Unfortunately they never made BIGGER hard drives than what was already out and ALL these new entertainment options end up taking alot of space.
