So, how is the 7th Legion different from Dark Matter? Other than being the "good guys" I guess?
We already have emergencies where we "help" out. I do hope this doesn't mean we get "help the 7th Legion fight off the Volge" along the roads.
Now, if it's "help the 7th Legion retake/defend their fortress from the Volge" I'm down for that type of instance/siege.
i agree with maixx they have things that need to be addressed now before any new dlc comes out if that means delay the next dlc so be it , and we definitly NEED a MAP EXPANSION
One of the commenters on Massively made a nice point: http://www.wowwiki.com/Halford_Wyrmbane (read the quote).
So is this a WoW rip, or did they both adapt some historical thing to their game?
"Through the valleys and peaks of Mount Hyjal, across the shifting sands of Silithus, against the Legion's dread armies - we have fought. We are the nameless, faceless, sons and daughters of the Alliance. By the Light and by the might of the Alliance, the first strike belongs to us and the last strike is all that our enemies see.
We are 7th Legion."
Hmmmmmmm. Well the spikes and stims are from firefall so why not?
Map expansion is probably going to be season 2.
How what and where are the big questions. But this isnt something that can be put out in a DLC. Trion's work method suggests these projects are NOT small and they do not just add a few hundred square feet. They prefer to add Countries rather than cities.
Yeah they did similar actions in Rift. I was one of the first people to find the under water areas that would eventually become Storm Legion continents.
But fair warning. This is one of those areas Trion doesnt go for small over. When they added Ember Island. Land wise they added nearly double the continent. Then for Storm Legion they went even BIGGER. A map content expansion will NOT be a small effort by this team. Due to size and scope to expect this any earlier than the season 2 patch would be lunacy.
Maybe Rift's side of Trion, but when it comes to Defiance. They go for the "less is more" approach.
Having talked with Tony and with Matt the two people who wrote the Defiance Lore Bible/wiki. This is not part of anything they wrote, this means it is not original canon.
In some way there will need to be some redaction of what we knew. We already know that Manhattan is where VBI HQ is and that at one time it was also the site of a Votanis Collective attack/siege. We know these Overly Aggressive Canadians make their way to Manhattan to fight against some Darkness.
We know that Columbia and the E-REP are also in this area as most of the east coast is under their "protection"/direction.
Could this be a bit of a made up prequel story?
Now part of the lore also given so far is that the 7th's long march was over, after they beat the darkness in Manhattan. This means they settled and did not move on. Yet in the next sentence they are now marching to Paradice/the bay area. This part makes no sense as it first off contradicts the previous statements and secondly the E-Rep already have a Merc force echelon and I doubt a bunch of Aliens would fare very well in columbia because there is a rather large part of E-REP that is xenophobic Colonel Hampton Gretch who is now one of the staunchest supporters of a new alien war.
So this all makes no sense in a story telling/lore following way. It would have made more sense to follow our plot line of a future where Gretch Assassinates William Howard Marshall the current President of the Earth Republic and take power for himself, blame the votan and create a civil war of types to flush out the votan from E-REP territory, minus the useful ones of course like the Indogene.
This would create some new opportunities for PVP story line as humans vs votan, the local E-REP under grant would likely side with the local residence and make him an outlaw and the New Freedom would take on a more iconic symbology as literally a new freedom from E-REP oppression.
I have to shake my head to think I can write a better stoy/plot line in 10 minutes that what ever this 7th Legion story line is going to be that has a ton of holes and plot issues, unless they redact the entire original story and start from scratch.
I am not down on the DLC. The need to pop out a couple more yet with in a month of each other to reach their committed deadline. So this is to be expected. Also we know how big the Trion team is, if you seen the staff Christmas party photo. Remember 11 of those are Trove Dev's. That means about half the staff is Rift/Defiance = about 10 in total with only Trick being the exclusive Defiance Guy that we know of. I am going to guess this was his idea.
The first thing I thought after reading the post on the community blog page was "Trick had a few before writing that".
Those are some very interesting thoughts. Thanks Beck.
I was thinking that perhaps, seeing how in the show E-Rep just took over Defiance. Just earlier a Stratocarrier had shown up in Paradise (even if it got shot down). The Votanis Collective may see this as part of a greater expansionist pattern in E-Rep politics. Then they may decide to have some unit investigate Paradise. The 7th Legion may, with its adherence to a code of honor, just fit the bill of a unit that could take actions in its own hand where it deems itself required to do so, giving the Votanis Collective just enough deniability to prevent an open war if things in Paradise go badly. In that way it could also foreshadow some tension between Erep and the Collective in season 2.
Just thinking aloud.
And you sir, win the prize for original thinking....Kudos!
I too came to this game from GW and GW2, and I still pop into dear old Tyria from time to time to wander the halls and reacquaint myself with that beloved world....
what a couple of you view as negativity, others may view as an attempt to hold up a mirror in front of the company's collective face, and simply saying "Really? seriously?". The fact that I choose to incorporate a bit of humor into my posts, reflects upon my desire to see the company succeed, but not at the cost of the greater story or lore that is defiance.
They "accidentally" gave us comedy gold, and we're utilizing it in all it's glory to emphasize our wants of a stable, playable game across all platforms, content that truly furthers the plots and solves the mysteries that the show and game has already established, and our desires for the company to step up to the plate, take responsibility for their schtako, FIX the long endured problems plaguing the land, and have clear, concise, and obtainable goals to achieving these ends...all, while communicating to the community their intentions, receiving feedback, implementing the feedback, and projecting the end product back into the community as a sounding board for successes or failures....is that too much to ask of a company? I think not, but that's just me....
I still maintain that this is not true content...this is filler... that neither advances the overall world storyline, furthers specific plotlines, nor introduces regions or other esoterica associated with the notion of "content"
Filler....
so strap on your maple armor, grab those bacon blades, say a prayer to the almighty Zamboni Moose, and get ready for another "meh"...
This game has gone to ****. Just thought Id post this after hearing the real lore bible from tony I believe this game has gone to gamer hell.
Post-apoc: all the rage these days.
Alien: ditto.
Samurai: Anime fans will wet themselves at the mere mention of this, good show!
Canadian: ....and the laughter ensues. Yea.....k.
Moving onwards.....I don't care you made up a description that sounds like you guys been playing a little too much Warframe and decided to 'borrow' some ideas....MORE LAND MASS PLEASE. Thank you!
when the trailer dlc comes out for it, shall be the deciding factor ~ whether to get it or not...pretty sure it will be $10
*cough*
Oh god, watch out! The super samurai canadians are coming!

Also, great observation, Nashtalia! ^^b
As a Canadian I choose to troll myself and apologize for it in one post.

I'm Sorry
Man this thread is funny as hell. Glad you guys have a sense of humor. Here's to bacon skins on the new dlc weapons.
during my in-game chat, people were calling them "space-ninjas" xD
And for my 100th post on the forums:
Canadian alien samurai bacon.
You mean they're going to be bringing in tonnes of ham? Heck yeah.
I hope so too, I do see the issues and what Trion is done, I feel exactly the same with Arenanet but thats a different Story..
I just believe in seeing the final product before i turn negative, i haven't been here 6 months but honestly it doesn't take 6 months to see the issues, i just hope they fix them asap, and if its all as bad as everyone says i will move on to Everquest next.
Pretty Simple really..
Edit: Is there some sort of running Bacon joke about Canada in the US or something because i'm pretty sure Bacon is all over the world, here in Aus too..whats the excitement about pork and ham that gets Americans so worked up?
If the Trion team looks at the Defiance World Map lore and comes up with this, and this isn't the best thing I've ever seen, then I'm probably going back to World of Tanks.
At least when the WarGaming developers make content, it's relevant to the ****ing game.
Canadian Samurai? Really? That's probably a 180 degree turn from what most players want.
Great, another Samurai stuff, but from Canada. I'm sorry if I'm not interested.
I hope there was a way to "skip" this DLC with my season pass.
I thought this game was about Human and Aliens cooperating in a destroyed world, why don't we have some kind of merged culture between both instead of the good old Bushido ? Lack of imagination perhaps ?
What next, Pandas aliens ?
At least the first DLC lore was making sense, everything else was badly done, but the lore was interesting (albeit very short). And it was fresh. A lot more than samurai at least.
Well think about it this way, terraforming might have made travel more feasible than before between canada/alaska from like russia/china/japan etc.
I dont see them going by ocean since the beasts in the water that would probably just eat them all. ie: (Votzilla?)
As for bushido, maybe in the 21st century it was an extinct way of life, but in the harsher post-defiance era, bushido may have found a place for people to devote lives maybe even found work as protectors of nobility or priveleged etc.
I see a few expansions around that, and I hope it does bring out a melee line and maybe even armor that can deflect the surge bolter back to the person firing it! That I would pay a few scrips for!
Bring it~!
This may be pretty cool depending on how they do it.
and mmmmmmmm bacon
