Forum Tools - Continued

Since I obviously have nothing better to do, I am working on another tool for the Defiance forums to host on the Defiance Data site.

Some people don't visit the forums often, and could use (myself included) a tool which points out at a glance the popular threads of the day.

I am in the proof of concept and basic implementation stage of a tool which

- Reads the most recently updated 60 thread info, this seems to be the cut off limit for a daily posts
- Grabs information from them
- Stores thread information
- Displays a list of the most popular threads today, and this week
- Shows the total posts, and the posts today or this week for each of those threads

Any other suggestions for me?

Some of the 'popular' threads seem to be back and forth bickering/insults and frustration. Not sure if that's what you are going for. I have seen a few great tip threads that I favorited to go back to. For instance, the one on getting the 5000 kills pursuit.

Not sure how feasible this is, but perhaps a tool to choose top used words? Again, you're going to pull a lot of negativity. But you might also pull the threads giving people info on what's happening (IE: Mods disappearing). It might help to cut down on a lot of duplicate threads if they know one is already in place and being activity discussed.

I love going to your site for info, by the way. You helped me through many a missions/pursuits. Thank you for setting it up.

Thanks I appreciate it. At the moment it doesn't pull each post content, that would add extra load.

Potentially I could pull the first post in any thread, as that seems to set the tone of the thread?

I would also potentially ignore any threads that have been locked, I already ignore the stickies.

I might just dedicate an entire page to links to useful threads on the forum, people have great ones in their signatures, but I don't think we have a central list anywhere.

True. It's a great idea in theory, but it seems that there's a lot of turmoil going on right now. Not sure how much that will help those looking for answers. It's a shame because there are a lot of really nice people here.

If you really do want to pull threads, would you be able to focus on the Mission and Contracts sub-forum? I think that one would be helpful for those looking for extra help.

A page with tips/tricks would be awesome. There are a few out there that really help. The 5000 sniper kills, for the Sniper Savior and Moonshack pursuits (cannot recall correct title right now).

I can totally target it at a specific forum, I chose General for now.

For content searches, I could also potentially ignore General and use the Missions and Contracts forum. That place is where I used to hang out while General was super busy when the game launched. This place has quietened down since then, so there is room to breathe :)

I'm hesitant to start another thread just yet for collecting the useful threads, hopefully I won't remember it. Feel free to poke me in a few days or to start on a list yourself and PM it :p

Interesting idea, people are open to abuse systems, however usage is usage and might encourage people to visit DD :D

The defiance data site is a GREAT help to anyone who needs or wants info about the game. I have used it several times and may I say, you are the MAN! I have no clue how many hours you've spent on your project but rest assured it is appreciated my friend.
