We will be starting server updates on all platforms beginning at PT. Servers will be down during this time frame.
Server Downtime:
Date: April 4th, 2013
Time: 3:00pm PT
Duration: 30 minutes
Patch Notes:
- Multiple server crash fixes
- Fix so that your vehicle will still appear even in heavily populated areas
- Improved loot in Major Arkfalls
- Adjusted visual priorities during Arkfalls to keep NPCs from disappearing
- Fixed issue that was causing players to extract behind a closed door
- Fix to the metallic/garbled Voice Chat
probably mics will not work, after patch, but they may improve the consistency and get it working for larger % of players, for ps3. xbox does it their side. pc hardware & online alternatives make it moot there.
So really by that standard they have to work on this & classify top priority, because SONY will not do it.
Lets build a game around Voicechat said no game company ever.
Seems that the patch did fix voice chat, at least for my friends and I. Sounds great, no more robots talking into a high speed fan.
Voice chat worked fine for me. Running a wireless mic. didnt have any issues
Look, simply put, yes the voice chat as it is programmed, sucks. But give the dev team a chance before you go off ranting. The game has been out one day. Sure there was a beta, and they tested it out there, but I believe the dev teams actually applied there time and lessons from the beta well, polishing things and fixing glitches and bugs that actually affected gameplay. Unfortunately, VOIP is not one of those things that has a large impact on the gameplay. Theres enough onscreen content that if your in a group, you can keep an eye on your other members without much problem. Give them time, it'll get worked out, there are much larger issues in the game that need attention right now. And besides, how many of you ranting actually know how many hours of work it takes to fix something that seems so easy to you? It could potentially take the rewriting of thousands of lines of code, not to mention testing it to see if it adversly effects other areas of the game. So just have a little patience. At least you can play. And if your that tight up to communicate, theres always the virtual keyboard.
group and clan chat works for me perfectly
Good point with the USB keyboard. But honestly, those of you whining about voice chat, your online friends probably don't really wanna hear you anyway, just a thought.
they didn't even clear up the voice chat with the patch that happened 5 hours ago, it still really terrible they could do better I rate it 3/10 for voice chat quality. You hardly can get a group together without someone's voice chat not working. I don't know what's worse broken voice chat, or unable to connect to servers. Does Trion even test their games or even read their player input? Its not good when dervs lie because they only sell you dreams and give you broken promises.
That's a little one-sided. Majority of us knew that the game would have some issues that they have to iron out on launch. And judging by your sig you absolutely despise gamers that complain about the voice chat. That's fine. I'm one of them.
In my experience, when a game has a bug that needs to be fixed and it happens to me while playing with friends one of 2 things happens:
*We all just sit there laughing and joking about it happening
*One of us know a workaround to fixing
*We try to figure out why said bug is happening
So without the mics that wouldn't happen. Being able to discuss things with others in real time makes it "easier to swallow". But it's not like we could get on right now anyway. This isn't to bash you or anything just giving a point of view from one of the more patient "fix the VOIP" gamers...
Despite how I act I'm not completely against having the voice chat in the game. I don't want Trion to get it working first before the game is stablized that is what my issue is. Everybody wants the voice chat working NOW!! FORGET THE GAME WE WANT VOICE! Well whats the point of Voice chat if you don't have the game to play it on?
Roger that. Tbh I kinda dread clicking on the general discussion because there's only a gazillion "server timed out" and "my stuff ain't there" threads. Meanwhile, Trion's been updating quite regularly on their twitter feed which apparently quite a few people don't bother with...
Please explain what is wrong with the game for you, and are you afflicted by timeouts?
I see things like this list.
step 1 timeouts
step 2 VOIP
step 3 play a 95-99% completed game out of box.
step 5 fix remaining 5 % of issues in game
step 6 play a ever expanding game but frankly I do not wish to see it die here while it flourishes on the pc and xbox who can apply more attention to any other issues then voip given Microsoft abd pc alternatives.
Guns works, vehicles work, shooting works, havnt got stuck once, menus work.
memory issues for draw distances and like will never be fixed with ps3's ram, ps4 they will wait
Hey Sledge I hope the major patch updates bring a hotkey/push-to-talk button for voicechat, even for consoles. It's ridiculous if you're using other VOIP (on PC) then people hear your voice twice because it's in game too. Push to talk good if you want to talk to people playing other games, etc. Also I'm not a fan of turning off my mic completely while playing on PS3, then reaching for the mic mute switch each time I want to tell my teammates something. It's too clumsy on any platform.
Also joining Shadow War with 30+ players on your team, ALL their voicechats are active.. You can hear their gamesounds from their speakers/TV, and their ugly hip hop music from their boomboxes. It's hell.
My voice chat in game is currently disabled until it's fixed and given a push-to-talk key that we can change to what we want. Make it CAPS LOCK (for PC, consoles no idea what would work best) by default like on ArmA 3. No one uses that in other VOIPs and since the ingame text chat doesn't work either it's no problem.
I've had voice chat act up a bit, but it appears to be improving. I had a session where my group played for a couple hours with no issue, at least for the voice. Sure the connectivity still winks out on occasion, but it's a new MMO and is to be expected. Still haven't heard anybody in area chat, though.
My biggest worry was that not enough PS3 players had mics to even care.
your not alone, I as well as countless others told them during Alpha and Beta tests that the Mic's where awful, and like you said we where all told that "upon launch all that would be working just fine", we where told that the testing we where doing was just a server stress test and nothing more. This is bad real bad. When voice chat as is out like it is for us there is little to no chance of fixing the issue unless they take the game off the shelf and re release it. I know if they don't fix it, it will be the end of this game. (Sad but True)
Only in the sense that it is an mmo. Shooter, and...well whatever DCUO is are two completely different game types my friend, but I understand your point. If you like console mmo's check out Dust 514, its free to play and a 1st person shooter, though very different from defiance
Voice chat works... but im not sure what the priorities of fixing game functionalities are, with 3 people in group you can get a semi stable voip working on ps3 i know of, pc, a bit more stable (but... dont quote me on pc pc is just "semi" stable.) as for 360 no idea, never even tried.
But yes voip works its just severely limited and will crap out, and sometimes cause system locks up (not from heat) but due to blue tooth errors(?) caused behind the scenes (things we dont see) in most likely a error log*
