Install game to hard drive at dashboard or not?

Does anyone have the definitive answer? I have seen conflicting reports on whether to do this or not. Some say install game to hard drive from dashboard, THEN load the game and install patches. Others say do not install from dashboard and load game directly and install patches. I am trying to avoid the infinite looping patch/reinstall the game issue when I get home to avoid ripping my hair out.

To sum up, should I?

1. Install game to hard drive at dashboard, load game, install patches.
2. Skip game install at dashboard, load game, install patches, THEN install game at dashboard
3. Skip game install at dashboard, load game, install patches, NEVER install game at dashboard

Please tell me which number is appropriate :)

I've done it and apart from the known server issues reported by Trion the game has played great for me. I'm honestly not sure if it makes much difference or not but I always install my games. Make of it what you will.

when you put the disc in,it will automatically install to your hd

I installed it before I did the patches, never had a problem except a few kicks from the server. Nothing crazy though.

I always install mine too, and this one was to be no different until I saw these forums that made me second-guess myself. Thanks, I'll just install to hard drive as normal.

So the option when you load up the game installs it exactly the same as if I installed it outside of the game in the dashboard?

I remember something about it downloading, but for mine it went super fast since I already did from the dashboard.

Sounds good, thanks mate.

I never installed from dashboard and it all worked fine.
When you boot up the disc it will install the necessary files.
If you install from the dashboard it just installs them twice.

Technically no. Also make sure you remove the beta from your HDD

Explain why?
If you install from the dashboard and ingame you get an install of over 10GB
Install from ingame only and it is only just over 5GB
Install from ingame only and the disc never moves.

the disk is a installation disk...its gonna require the installation.

if you install at the dashboard you still need to install in game. it will just take less time

I installed from the Dashboard, only to then load the game and have it install again anyways. When I went into the HDD storage to delete the extra install I had done, it was not there. So no matter what choice you make, the file is over written by the game's own install from the forced version.

Everything worked fine, till maint booted me out (did get the odd time outs though)

No it's not.
People who have installed it twice have a + 10 GB install.

Yes it does, you have the main game installed @5.1gigs, and then 3 updates patches @36megs, 2.1gigs, and 3.6gigs = 10.7gig total.

But one ONE, installed game file. So like me having installed twice, there is only 1 install, meaning the game install over wrote the manual install.

The 2.1 gigs and the 3.6 gigs patches are installed from the disc.
If you don't install from the dashboard you still install the 2.1 and 3.6 gigs.

I didn't install from the dashboard but installed in-game. I have played for a while and now I looked on my HDD and it says Defiance is only 5.7gb with only the 3 patches.

I am now installing the disc via the dashboard.

So I would have to say that the install via in-game does not install the disc, only the patches.

Yep, I installed the game from dashboard AFTER all the patching was done. 10.7 GB total for Defiance now.
