Is the problem my video card?
Laid up with a broken leg and was really hoping I could run this on my wife's laptop. Even with all graphics turned down movement is ridiculously choppy and every keystroke lags in game, though. Messed with her comp most of the day and think I've done everything I can.

Running on an ASUS G60VX, Core 2 duo, 4096mb RAM, NVidia GeForce GTX 260M (driver updated this morning).

Is it just not going to play with that card?

Probably a combination of the card and the CPU.

Well that's depressing, the damn "gaming laptop" isn't even with us 2.5 years and it's obsolete. So, I bought thru Steam, how do I go about getting a refund?

This is the system requirements list I found on the wiki, if it helps.

    • Operating system: Windows® XP SP2
    • Processor: Intel® core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz CPU or better
    • Memory: 2 GB System RAM
    • Hard drive space: 1.5 GB available
    • Video: 512MB video card (Nvidia® GeForce® 8600, ATI Radeon® HD 2900, or Intel® HD 4000 integrated graphics or better)
    • Sound: DirectX® 6.1 compatible sound card
    • DirectX®: DirectX® 9.0c
    • Broadband internet connection
You have a C2D, and the graphics card is listed as a 1 gig card on the Nvidia website, so I'm wondering why the choppy play even at low settings.

Do you have anything else running along with Defiance that could be giving you trouble? Is your internet wired or wireless? Wireless can be spotty at times for gaming, for a variety of reasons. You could also be having issues just due to server loads on the first day of release.

Have you tried asking your question over on the Technical Support forums by any chance? You'd have a much better chance of finding someone that can give you a hand sorting this out over there, rather than it being buried here in the PC General forum.

The MINIMUM requirements would be the Core 2 Duo, this means the game WILL RUN on that. In no means are you actually suppose to play a game on the minimum requirements. I would absolutely recommend a better processor.

Heck if a 120 million dollar supercomputer becomes obsolete in 5 years what can we expect.
