The Legendary Weapon Kit is 10,000 bits (currently discounted 20% to 8,000 bits) and grants a one of each type of mod at epic rarity matched to a random weapon at legendary rarity. This price is based on the average cost of purchasing Epic Mod Hoards and Tier 4 Lock Boxes to get the same value: a legendary weapon fully loaded with epic mods.

Also, from the initial data we're seeing, some ark hunters agree that it's a premium they're willing to embrace: Legendary Weapon Kits are selling well.

I understand the above from a purely mathematical perspective.

There is so much more to it than math however. Has your marketing dept considered the impact this will have on not obtaining folks that otherwise would have come to the game?

I mean you have raw data on folks that are already here, but how do you reconcile data that you can't possibly have? I for one read up on games BEFORE putting money down and trying them. If I wasn't already here invested in Defiance, I would NEVER come here at this current time simply by what I am seeing Trion doing with this game.

That would be potential money lost from me and others who don't blindly jump into new games.
When I see certain practices that I don't like in a game I am considering getting into, that is a turn off, and I usually end up taking my interests elsewhere. Money that could have been had.

A small blurb about folks who have or will purchase the expensive orange colored RNG generated item. I don't have an issue at all with you folks. It's your money, I won't like you or dislike you anymore than I already do. It's a complete non-issue to me.

My 100% total and complete problem with that offering is with the company. It simply sets a business practice that has ramifications that I'd rather avoid. I actively eschew companies like this, I won't recommend this game to family or friends. I will eek out as much value from the money I've already spent here because I'm the type of person that likes to get their money's worth. If things remain on this path, I will likely not spend any more money here. These are ramifications that your data mining may or may not account for, but at least I'm telling you about it so that you will give the future of Defiance some deep thought.

That price is crazy maybe if everyone buys one then trion could use the money to fix the game doubt it though

Many players already spent a lot of money, buying deluxe version, buying season pass, buying bits, to support this game and help Trion...

(I guess that's why they are angry now :) )

There was a great discussion after launch when it was clear that the quality of the game development didn't live up to the astronomical money that went into the production. If I recall the final analysis wwas no matter how much money was spent, the majority went toward *******, Cadillacs, and strippers. :P

I suspect the trend would continue, although I'd like to be wrong.

With that semi inflammatory post, methinks it's time I take anudder hiatus and check back in a few months to see what direction things have gone.

I will say CM Scapes recent responses have been encouraging...

You were a bit off. You said $20 for a 50/50 chance. Here's your post.

    To Scopes:

I'm one of those white knights people have talked about. I'm one of the one's asking to others to stick it through a bit longer. But, I'm not going to be purchasing this lockbox. I understand the need of Trion to make a profit. That's how business works.

But, someone forgot one the the lessons of Econ 101. Right there beside supply and demand is the concept of: $100 one time from 10 people is the same as $10 from 100 people (hint for the math challenged, it's $1000 either way). But, the difference is if you have the supply to sell at $10 you will get MORE people buying than the first concept. $100 from 10 people is for an infinite item that cost $1 to make is $999. $10 from a 1000 people for the same item? That's another digit of 9.

Make the items in the store cheaper, more of them will sell at a rate to make more profit than you are making now.

But if there are people out there willing to spend 80 bucks on them and they're selling well, then I don't think you can really fault them for selling it at that price.

It's not like any of us NEED legendary weapons to play the game, so it's easy enough for those of us that don't find value in the 80 dollar lock boxes to ignore it entirely. People who are willing to spend the money can do whatever the hell they want.

Agreed. This being in the bit store isn't going to affect my playing. If people are foolish or desperate enough to pay that kind of money to get an orange weapon, let them.

Also I think Scapes stole my cat.

An Epic Mod Hoard is 700 bits and grants four random mods at epic rarity. A Tier 4 Lock Box is 400 bits and grants four random weapons at random rarity between rare and legendary. Here’s Technical Design Director Peter Ju with more details:

Second, the reasoning. Lock boxes have been in Defiance since the beginning. They've always been purchasable using in-game currency or premium currency. Our intent was to give players a guaranteed way to get a legendary weapon with matching epic mods, reducing the variables involved. The Legendary Weapon Kit is a lock box that introduces a convenience that the Epic Mod Hoard and Tier 4 Lock Box items don't grant on their own. Ultimately, this is part of providing multiple ways for players to play the way they want. Also, from the initial data we're seeing, some ark hunters agree that it's a premium they're willing to embrace: Legendary Weapon Kits are selling well.

Defiance’s fifth DLC is already in production and Creative Lead Trick Dempsey has insights into our direction moving forward:

Lastly, thanks for your patience while we took the time to reply. The team’s been keenly following today’s threads and are discussing your snap feedback to Gunslinger Trials. We aim to be much more proactive with the sort of information in this response and hope to preempt concerns about game direction.

This isn't necessarily a good choice so much as a lack of viable options.

When I was a kid and got jumped at school, and the badkid asked me if I wanted to get punched in the left eye or the right eye, it dint mean I went to school so I could choose between those options.

They were just the options I was presented.

    I didn't choose A or B then, either.

8,000 bits I dont think so
not for random weapon and epics mods that most likely dont match the weapons synergy.
Now 8000 for picking a weapon and building my own bonus on the weapon and picking the mods to go with it I understand for that price but for random set up I will not do. Now I would not care and buy it for 5200 bits that I can see overprice yes but manageable.
10,000 bits with no 20% off no no no no no.
Epic mod hoard 700 bits so where did they get 8,000 bits from should have been between 1,000 to 2,000 let say around 1,000 bits for a org. Weapon and 700 bits for the T4 mods big 1,700 bits give or take a small amount. Holy cup cakes how was that.
Let me pick my org. weapon and put org. mods in that kit for 8000 bits.

yes I know there is no org. Mods yet I see it coming to much bits for org. Mods kits.
He double huckie sticks NO 8000 bits and no pick all random.
